So you think it's OK to use a jigger on a defenceless animal, and that if they are not trying they deserve it??? For me what he did is totally wrong if you are that desperate to win, then there is something wrong with you...I for one would never give him a horse but thats just my opinion, I think more of the horse than just being a means to an end.

I'm wondering if they should do the decent thing and hand back their race club of the year award.

That appears to be the same mob from the Auckland Trotting Club that thought they more about commercially developing properties than commercial property developers, hence the (reputed to be) $100,000,000 hole they found themselves in after 101 different issue meant the project overran in every possible direction.

How can you expect the 'Jaffas' to get the track right - thay can't even run an Easter Handicap at Easter 🙃

JMO.  I've always called out the horse auction process and all the shonky practice that pervades them. Understand the "buyer beware" premise but vendor bids need to be disclosed as they are in Real Estate ? ( maybe?)

I think that in the not too distant future he will replace the great Tony Lee in the overall standings within this country and no one could do better than that.
I am seeing something that none of the others have.
Yes, it's just my opinion, and I am sticking to it.

Definitely a positive in regards as regards stakes , very much a huge improvement , but my worry is that it is glossing over other significant issues , which from what I see are not being addressed . We still have too many horses being sold off shore , and I know there is no easy solve with this one , our breeding crop is slowly reducing and the vast majority of the numbers are being bred by the "big " studs , we need to give small independent incentives to start breeding more horses . Our riding standards are very poor and getting worse . Ownership numbers need to be increased , initiatives have to be implemented to increase this demographic and not just show pictures of smiling winners .
Ending up with great stakes but with poor product isn't going to stop the decline in racing .
I fear what might happen if Entain walk off in 5 years , do we have a safety net ready if this happens , because if not racing might not be tenable in the future .
But our biggest issue is turnovers and the way punters are treated , they have to start finding ways to get people involved in betting , start by making sure they know they are valued , give them access to see and hear their "investment" , hence free to air TV and radio coverage ,
Let's enjoy the current positives but don't get blinded by the bling , sooo much work still to be done .

Very poor attitude towards Invercargill on Trackside today I thought. Ellerslie running late all day, apart from the TAB cockup, and ran over the top of Invercargill every race. The worst one was the last at Ellerslie running 8 minutes late. Both fields were loaded and ready to jump at the same time so they took Ellerslie live and recorded Invercargill, despite the southern club running on time. Surely the late race should wait in the queue? And its not as if the Ellerslie race was more important, both the same class and virtually identical stakes.
It was hardly as if the massive crowd at Ellerslie overwhelmed them on course.

Probably desperate to get out when they saw the facilities and state of the track and security wouldn't let them.

Talk to RACE. They control the place, unfortunately.
Yes I agree the facilities are looking awfully tired, especially the public.
It’s all because they think that they have a multi million dollar redevelopment in the pipeline. I think that it’s more like a pipe dream and will never get off the ground.

It’s the introduction to racing for most people.
They don’t know that they aren’t great fields.
Actually it probably suits them being small, as it will obviously be easier for them to back a winner and get a real thrill.
Isn’t it sad that the people in charge have closed down Gisborne, Wairoa and Waipukurau just to name three. All three provided exactly what Wairarapa did today.
