  1. What a great facility. Appreciated by so many in the industry (29 heats !). Professionally run and surely one of the best courses for winter racing ?
  2. Jeez if that isn't someone on a high horse and with a superiority complex to boot I don't know what is. So don't bet on them
  3. Good on the amateurs I reckon. It's not like they get many chances and most (all) of them absolutely love it But you can rest assured some pain in the backside killjoy will be there putting the boot in saying they shouldn't be there or we shouldn't be allowed to bet on them. Sheesh ! Get a life of your own and the amateurs will be out there doing it for real at Avondale on Wednesday
  4. Thanks Stodge, very interesting and makes sense
  5. Synthetic surfaces can be prepared to mimic slower turf by harrowing deeper - does this happen in NZ or are all surfaces prepared to simply run as Good 3 or Dead 4 or whatever? I understood that this could be done with our synthetic tracks but doesn't seem to happen. It does make you wonder what sort of can of worms it would open though with some wanting it deeper than others and some not, who would decide and when ?
  6. I dunno about fast horses being fast on any surface Nerula. Some horses are versatile enough to go on anything but they are few and far between. Plenty of fast ones on good ground can't go at all after a bit of rain and I'm not talking about a Heavy 10 My namesake loved the mud but couldn't handle it puggy and occasionally a mudder comes out and upsets the fast ones just as the tracks are improving and you don't expect it. All the variables keep the game interesting
  7. Always irritates me when they to a 3yo filly as "him" or vice versa. I mean that is just really lazy and how can you take anything they say seriously when they get something so basic wrong.
  8. By my calculations Little Wonder has only sired 13 foals of which 6 made it to the races, 2 won and 2 were placed in the last month or two. A pretty good strike rate for $1K I think especially considering those 13 were not exactly from K1 mares.
  9. I was talking about the 3rd race which I'm pretty sure Henry was talking about too. Winner nothing yet, 2nd horse 7. 3rd horse 1.
  10. Leggy it looks to me like the 2nd horse got 7 points. The winner of the last race at Matamata hasn't got any points yet either. Still on 59
  11. Is this some new sort of competition Scooby ? If so I'll go $440,000
  12. 20. Makram 17 Smokin' Romans 6. Nonconformist Thanks Scooby.
  13. OK. I admit it, I had to google "diminution" to see if it was a real word. Very classy Mr Notts
  14. Skoota would turn over in his grave if he could see all these abandoned race days and heavy tracks going to waste !
  15. Well , Mr Rogerson is very entertaining and always good for a quote but he does have 6 in on Wednesday. He has also been heard to say that he is a pretty good judge of a horse and has the results to prove it (Which he undoubtedly does !) Of his 6 runners, one he paid $120,000 for as a yearling, another $170,000 and another $420,000. Read into that what you like
  16. He's back ! This thread was from 2014 and Graeme is down to ride Apollyon, a horse he trains and shares in the ownership of at Cambridge on Wednesday. Good luck to him. I only wish I had the nerve and ability to do that, not to mention the correct weight .
  17. Kane, it would be interesting to hear what trainers have to say about the synthetic as there are some of our best with runners there on Wednesday. Stephen Marsh, Peter McKay, Graeme Rogerson, Ralph Manning, Tony Pike, Roger James, Lance Noble, Ben Foote, Shaun Ritchie, Chris Wood, Stephen Ralph, Lance O'Sullivan, Peter & Dawn Williams, Paul Richards all have runners there this week. So they are not all bypassing it by any means. On the other hand I see Mark Walker, who wasn't on that list, has 24 (If I didn't miss any) trialing at Waipa tomorrow. Wouldn't it be great if we had some racing journalist pick up the phone and publish some feedback from trainers even if it was slightly sanitised ?
  18. Reasonable fields at Cambridge Races on Wednesday but notably not one Mark Walker horse entered. When did that last happen ?
  19. What's also interesting is that Modernise is in a Maiden race at Avondale on Wednesday which obviously she was eligible for when nominations were taken. Will she be allowed to run in it and get an opportunity to win a 2nd Maiden Race ? My guess is that she won't be allowed to run on Wednesday.
  20. Grosvenor had 10 winners from only 13 starters this season - That'd take some beating
  21. He doesn't have many runners and isn't "fashionable" despite being by Fastnet Rock out of Group One winning mare The Jewel and from the famous Dennis family. But I noticed he's just left 2 winners in a row at Woodville today. I think he's only had 1 winner before them but maybe he's on his way ? Standing for just $2,000 at Grangewilliam Stud. I have no affiliation whatsoever with him but he looks pretty good value at that doesn't he ?
  22. Could that be because there are no races at Avondale today ?
  23. Interestingly there is nothing from the rider in the stewards report either Shodsie. It just says Mr Studd admitted the charge and after hearing submissions the committee imposed the suspension.
