  1. I would love to hear Roso answering a young person interested in getting into the sport. It would sort of go like this, it is easy peasy stuff junior get some dogs then some big monied friends and just buy up all the local then as many imported bitches from proven families. After that it's just a matter of numbers, keep breeding and only keep the best of each litter, I'll tell you  about the others later. just keep going and keep spending and eventually you can force all the mugs out and hello you have no opposition. Only one thing though junior, CHCH and CD are already covered so best you go for the Northern area

  2. It is correct that we are  breding from dogs with genetic issues.

Brett Lee is a good example, with one testicle. Brett has left a legacy in the greyhound world by leaving the very best of dogs world wide, yet with that legacy went another and a negative genetic issue went worldwide as well.

If you were the manager of the National stud and had all the information on Brett Lee's huge results of his offspring on the track would you have allowed him to be used.

I believe the answer that should be no but it would take a brave woman to say no.

  3. Well I will never go any race meeting again after patronizing all three codes for years , I may as well sit at home and get my grandson to click through the bets when he is available.

That is probably where we are going actually level two racing where we all sit at home and bet while no one attends a racecourse.

I have attended racemeetings since I was 10 years old on a regular basis, there is something about the whole atmosphere that appealed to me, just not the betting. That is not the case anymore and fini for me and I'll wager many many more.

My prediction for budget next week

Winston will drag his mate Shane Jones into the office and say look here Shane unless you can find 60-70 mill for NZ Racing from the provincial Growth fund in the budget we will both be History in November so see what you can come up with!!!

Go to the top of the class ardentbuzz, if this had been a tipping competition you would be well out in front

  5. Have a look at gg's forum, Blood on the floor posted by Barry Lichter. Trackside have dumped many of their long time commentators and presenters, yet Trevor Wilkes and Peter Early seem set to remain. Unbelievable both are so far past their use by date it's not funny. What is funny is listening to either of them call a race on my car radio then watching a replay when I get home and you would think they were two different races .Mark Roso to do all CD which Is enough to put you to sleep and in the meantime the most accurate and entertaining of the lot Jason Teaz gets the axe.

Madness, I'd like to see which the ones that wrecked it in the first place got the boot

It will be interesting hearing George calling the dogs. Two of the happiest people will be Tom Wood and Mark Mac. They got out in time.

George has called the dogs before and is very good at it. Peter Early and Trevor Wilkes although having given great service to the industry should both be gone. Their calls are now nothing like what is actually happening on the track., full of inaccuracies and Trev was prone to that all through his career but it is standard expected behaviou now.

Poor Old Jason , a logical successor to either or both of the Dogz commentators

  7. Jape you need some training to do with getting out of the starting barriers quicker.

After another very slow start on the GG'S picking comp yesterday ran on well again at the finish. Mind you Bus stop had the same sort of start and hardly ran on at all. Mr Zim was holding hands with Bus Stop all the way and needs to consult a family member quickly to get some advice

  8. Total incompetence. The TAB have swaggered along patting themselves on the back for years while the rest of us tagged along shaking our heads. Times are tough enough for all the clubs in each code without them acting like they were following some edict from Nth Korea or wherever.

Maybe it just came down to , 'its only the dogs'

This is the great conundrum racing authorities  in NZ face.

Everyone says it's too expensive at the administrative level and the business needs to cut costs. The problem is who goes and what is the cost cutting outcome at the end  when the razor has done it's supposed job.

I'm picking a lot of.moans in the future about cost cuts and reduced services etc.

In short you get what you pay for and thus can't have it both ways.

    Greg

Greg , we are not getting what we pay for.

  10. Hooked a couple Robin so not bad, not a s good as Lisa at Wanganui though. Once they got into stride it was trifecta's everywhere, everyone else must have thought it was Doomsday until race 11

  11.  Yep after that I made sure I was a club representative at a an AGM . The person who instituted the  H&S policies was a speaker and when he finished I asked to speak and told him that I thought the H&S system throughout the organization was at a very juvenile stage that left us vulnerable. He replied that he had audited the clubs and found they were all valid and correct. My next question was going to be 'did you view the Waikato and Tokoroa H&S policies?" but the chairman ( may have been Maro) shut the discussion down through running short of time.

RFS ask your H&S what they think about an organization asking the person responsible for originating their H&S policies to audit his own work

    Kids stuff

  12. There is rightfully a lot of concern amongst members about the domination of  mega kennels in the percentage of dogs racing at certain meetings . I think I read somewhere the Cole empire have something like 45% of the dogs in the first days racing for example.

Well why don't we have a Cole day only at CD on one day and one for the rest on the other day.

This should work bigtime, the empire could finally achieve their goal of winning every race on the card and the rest can battle it out on the other day.  Sure to be a bigger spread of the prizemoney.

Opawa have muddied the water a bit by naming a lot of their recent dogs without the Opawa prefix so it is a lot harder to trace  but maybe one of the Canterbury days could dedicate half the meeting to Wales empire dogs only. John Mac will have settle for one of the Southland days

  13. I know one handler that definitely isn't and has been trying to get someone to see sense for years, I know others who just shake their head in disbelief. I have never wanted it to b compulsory just an option.

I forgot about raceday trials, what a joke that makes of the whole situation. I pointed it out to Robocop one day and he said they should all be fined!

  14. I admire your thought process Em but it would never work because of that word you mentioned in a couple of other posts GREED, Either the greedy with the right resources  would grab control and work it for themselves or somehow rort the purchase system ( bogus bidders) to ensure they got the numbers to dominate. There will never be a level playing field,

  15. Pickel you are starting to sound like a chutney.

I did not suggest the catching at 375m, it was standard practice ever since the track opened. I think Tom Rodewald during his reign as pres. may have tried to change it for whatever reason but gave up when nearly all participants just kept self catching. When it was changed because a few of the catcher's who liked their faces on TV felt they were not getting enough exposure is when I started to ask questions.

You obviously do not understand how the health and safety act works , nor do the association because once it becomes a hazard then the association have a duty of care to ensure that all clubs under it's jurisdiction are made aware of the new found so called hazard  and put measures in place to  minimise the risk. In this case several other clubs expect the catcher's to run back and catch ( eg Palm Nth). This is a nonsense.

The NZGRA information on restart for Cambridge 375 states , handlers will box their dogs and proceed to the catching area, so that would include all the old cripples you mention .

You say it is not a rule that is inflicted upon you. In this case it was and as I said the only people to benefit from it were a few fairies and the RIU

  16. The NZGRA seem to just be bumbling along to the restart , breaking their own rules and making absurd statements that defy logic.

I see the requirement for having a catcher at Cambridge at the 375m mark has been removed for the near future. I am not sure if it is forever or just till we get back to level1 but they cannot do this.

I have had trouble with this requirement for years, I questioned it for a long time and asked the logic behind it. I was told by Mr. Death that it was a health and safety problem. I asked what the risk was he said it was because someone may have a heart attack running back. I pointed out that someone could have a heart attack walking back. He then  said that you are running towards the lure moving towards you. I pointed out that you do the same at the finish of a 457. He then said it was written in the clubs health and safety policy so I asked to see both Auckland's and Waikato's policy and he said he couldn't produce them. This in itself is a breach of the H&S act .

For  something to be declared a hazard it must show there is a risk, that risk is then assessed to see what needs to be done to first either remove the hazard or take steps to reduce the risk if that is not possible. Once it has been identified as a hazard you must follow the risk assessment. So if you recognize the hazard and make it part of you H&S policy. and you then not obey your rules and someone happens to hurt themselves carrying out the task (in this case catching your own dog) then you are immediately guilty and the courts always make tougher judgments when the guilty party was aware of the risk requirements.

Taking this into consideration it is not only illogical but nonsensical for Waikato to take this action. They either admit there is actually no risk carrying out this task or obey their own rules. That is there was no hazard all along or the hazard has been removed. The covid   - 19 removed the hazard for 6 weeks but now they want to start again they must race within their own rules to not do so put them at greater liability should something go wrong.

Changing this also creates it's own risk. When we had the choice to run back or get a catcher it gave an owner or handler the choice of catching the dog themselves or not if for example if they were incapable of running back. In this instance now there will be owners who are capable of starting a dog but not capable of running back who may just try that and end up in trouble.

The RIU will lose their main source of income and miss Waikato will have to spend all day a the bar
