  5. http://www.grnsw.com.au/news/nsw-to-host-the-worlds-richest-greyhound-event-with-1million-first-prize-and-animal-welfare-boosts I like the condition of entry that only dogs that are entered must be re-homed afterward. Though be interesting to see how this is policed over the following years. A problem I see, is there really enough quality dogs around to fill all the qualifying heats etc. When you start adding nomination fees (which I think is a good idea) an the knowledge that you’ll be racing the superstars of the sport, will people be really prepared to miss a weeks normal graded racing and most likely pay to get beat. James
  6. I’m after a Fernando bale straw. If you have one for sale or possible pup deal please contact me email: James_shaw238@hotmail.com txt/call: +61447061128 cheers James Shaw

  9. I was talking to Alan this morning about Heywood as that's where I went for Christmas and be bought up the fella Skipworth. Said he was quiet a character. Had a few good dogs too by the sounds of it.
  10. https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2017/jul/15/greyhound-racing-report-recommends-straight-tracks-to-cut-down-on-injuries imo an ill admit I haven't seen too many races but Capalaba seems a better straight track as they race behind a drag lure. Although maybe the toe injuries from racing on grass increase. Here is a link from a race up there. Excuse the dog pulling up at the end. He went on to have a very successful career in vic. I think it was on his 2nd race start.
  11. I think they're very similar in fact. Both cost a varying amounts of money to transport them an both have valid an varing reasons for them to be imported an exported there. Could the northern region survive without dogs imported from the south an central. But that is getting off topic.
  12. Think you helped back up my point there about it NOT being GAP dogs being sent over but genuine race dogs that add to nz industry.
  13. Yes he does. I organised a bitch for someone else to come over. He paid the whole bill to jetpets and the bitchs owner paid him their share
  14. Three gross an ignorant misconceptions here, First by GOM, whilst it might be true NZ import more greyhounds per trainer than any other country, if you were to think of NZ of a state of Australasia, states like SA, WA and NT would rank a lot higher than NZ, and probably Tasmania as well. If imports between 'states' was stopped as you suggest, SA, WA and NT would more than struggle to maintain current racing programmes. I'm not saying NZ would but the standard would considerably drop. Second again by GOM, to say that it's GAP dogs from Aus coming over an clogging the nz gap system is rediculous. If that was the case give me Wheelers, or Cantys or Tulios or Thompsons numbers an id love to train their GAP dogs. These are astute business people and wouldn't be paying the thousands of dollars to send over if they didn't think they could make a profit off them. The third by Seddon does have some truth to it. He states 'do like the Aussies and get rid of lot of sprint races...' As a basic rule, (though not every meeting), 450 dogs WILL have preference to race, however such is the shortage of these dogs, meetings contain plenty of shorts is very common. Compare Geelong tonight to Hatrick where both meetings an formed using highest grades downward. 6 shorts vs 8. I saw a 10 race card (due to lack of noms) at Cannington a couple of weeks back only had 3 520m races. The rest were 380s or 297. NZ isn't the only place where the breed is weaker... Regards. James
  15. Ray amer has some my bro fabio straws.
  16. That explains a lot. Was woundering why I couldn't even look at the tab site on my phone. Been very frustrating. Cheers. James
  17. Alltheway. You've missed the point slightly I think. You said 'in 10years time.' I believe the time is perfect NOW. My preference for a race/series over the 645 would be best 32 nomed. An I think if the prize is big enough more than 32 dogs will be traveled all round the country to compete for it. Two reasons I'd cap it at 32, first, 645s can be a bit messy so only first an second proceed to final. Not having to worry about fastest seconds etc. second, trainers will have to try an win a 600+ race first to garuntee a start more or less so adds to the build up. As as for those arguing about whether the 645 is a distance race or not. It's really quiet eralavent. The point is people are starting to breed dogs that can run further and they should be rewarded. Maybe we call it a 'distance middle distance.' Also john moans about strong 500m dogs stepping up. I think that's what adds to the beauty of a series like this. Like a good boxer, he'll compete in different weight devisions. Who would win if Eagle tee, mazu, ride ain't over ring the bell and cristiane cyborg were all in the same race. James
  18. We are almost on the same wave length it seems. The more 600+m races the more chance of identifying dogs that will stay the ultimate trips. You've said it would be wrong to call a 645m race a group race, however there are 2 Group 1s and a group 2 over the the sprint distance... I'm not saying you personally agree with that either. But that's the way things are. Maybe we don't call it a group race then but have it as heats and final feature worth a substantial amount of money. I genuinely reckon it could attract at least 4 heats at the moment. James
  19. This week there has been a total of 5 staying races around the country. A 630m race at invercargil, 3 645m races at addington and 1 755m race at Wanganui. I believe it is time a new group race was introduced at addington over the 645m trip as there appears to genuine demand for races of this distance. My preference would be for it to be elegible to c0-c2 dist dogs, however if it was restricted to just c1&2 dogs it would create a bit of a build up for it as trainers would attempt to get their potential stayers to win a maiden in the weeks an months leading up to the race. Could name it, The Groovey Eye. (Track record holder since 2007) Looking at the group race calander there is no group staying race from 25 September until 22 of March. There is a huge window to fit a race of this nature in. James
  20. http://www.sandowngreyhounds.com.au/2017/07/25/sandown-set-speed-star-takeover/ seems to be an expanding concept, match racing. I can see a huge amount of money been turned over on these races and can be quiet a big afternoon. Have a few mates around, few beers, plenty of multis an quick fire racing without having to do much research. James
  21. Hi Neil. Out of curiosity, what was his time over the 310? Be interesting to compare to other sprints on the day. I can remember swift fantasy trailing 17.40s I think from memory at addington by herself. Regards James
  22. Hi Tim. I do realise that it's not nzgra's way to throw money at problems and Southland isn't a wealthy club to be investing heavily itself. I'm also not saying the track was in poor condition as I only watched one race an was really only focused on the preformace of my dog. I can remember a long time ago watching a show, maybe country calander, on vineyards I think it was. An how frosts could destroy their years crop. To counter this they had 2 options. Have barrel fires to keep the air warm enough not to freeze or hire helecoptors to fly over and disrupte the still air. I reckon I've seen some with their own windmills to do the same thing. Maybe having a chat to a few horticulturists or engineers on the topic of frosts or others on the forum might have experience in this field. Cheers James
  23. Jape - my research tells me there has been 16 matings between NZ an Aus. The oldest litters in Aus are 19months old. While the oldest in NZ are only 13 months old. I also have a feeling Robert had a bitch or 2 implanted with straws an sent over to his farm in America for the pups to be whelped an reared. Lad - Lucy wires would certainty be the best bitch he served. However I don't know how they're progressing. Sorry. James
  24. Sired his first winner in Australia today. A promising young dog fittingly trained by Rob Britton. https://fasttrack.grv.org.au/RaceField/ViewRaces/196027295?raceId=216470602
