  1. Well this should be the beginning of putting an end to recent rumours. 9th March 2016 Media Statement on judicial proceedings against Greyhound Racing Board Member Greyhound Racing Board chair Craig Rendle said in a written statement today: “The Board of New Zealand Greyhound Racing has been made aware of an allegation of misconduct against a Board member. “The Board takes all allegations of misconduct extremely seriously and is unequivocal about upholding the integrity of our industry at all levels. However, it would be wrong to comment on the particulars of any case before all the judicial processes are complete. “The affected member has stood down from the Board in the interim pending the outcome of the proceedings. “In the meantime, the Greyhound Racing Board will continue to make sure all industry participants – including owners, trainers, promoters, supporters and spectators – have the utmost confidence in the way we operate and continue to benefit from it as a sport.”

    Satisfactory Trials

I've heard several times statements such as "We don't charge dogs for FTP offences in trials here like they do Australia" and so on. Why not? 21.2 General Powers: The Board shall have the following general powers and duties: x. Disqualify either permanently or temporarily any Greyhound which, in the opinion of the Board, has been used for, or in connection with an Offence, or which has been entered or Nominated to run, or allowed to run in a Race or Satisfactory Trial under a fraudulent description, or failed to pursue the Lure during the Race or Satisfactory Trial provided that this power may not be exercised to change the placings. An Owner or Trainer of a Greyhound may seek a review, by a Judicial Committee, of any decision made under this Rule in accordance with Rule 91.20. This rule clearly states it is within the board's power & it is their duty to disqualify a greyhound which fails to pursue the lure in a satisfactory trail. If that responsibility has been delegated to the RIU to enforce, it then becomes their power & duty. Recently a dog was entered into a Satisfactory trial without a registered owner listed. 21.2 General Powers: The Board shall have the following general powers and duties: x. The satisfactory trial ended up being quashed because of the issue, but why was a disqualification overlooked?

Mike Godber hasn't offered any assurance that it wasn't a real possibility. "Male dogs have a normal level of testosterone, so you have to be able to prove that amount of testosterone in a dog was way above what would have been a normal level. That can be quite challenging. It's not impossible, we didn't say we couldn't show it, but everywhere in the world it is difficult." http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/racing/79089391/Racing-Integrity-Unit-considering-sending-David-Scott-investigation-to-police $19.70 win dividend in race #9. https://ebet.tab.co.nz/results/AUKG-reslt04241609.html

What do you feel is untrue about my post? The first in race #5 paying $25.00 The second in race #7 paying $23.40 Both males.... Both from box #5.... Both the longest on the tote.... Proof ~ https://ebet.tab.co.nz/results/AUKG-reslt04241605.html https://ebet.tab.co.nz/results/AUKG-reslt04241607.html

So, in the first seven races thus far from Manukau, two absolute outsiders have turned up. The first in race #5 paying $25.00 The second in race #7 paying $23.40

If you heard "sounds" in the apology, you may want to go & get that checked. I think it's safe to say the rest of us had to read it.

Takes courage to commit a crime as well. Yes, everyone does make mistakes. Most mistakes made are simply an oversight. However some mistakes are made fully knowing what the consequences could be for making the mistake. I acknowledge the apology & remorse expressed.

The RIU didn't crucify anyone. The RIU asked the JCA for a stiffer sentence than the one which handed down. David Scott breached the rules. David Scott was given the chance to defend the charges in the legal system & choose to plead guilty. David Scott was sentenced. Where's the problem in that? That's exactly the way the justice system is meant to work in a democratic society. Will the police have interest in pursuing the dropped charge further? Well they should. Threats of taking someone's life is a much more serious matter than attempting to have a dog drugged for personal advantage.

Might as well unplug the boxes... and...

It's been a couple of months since this topic was last visited. Ascot greyhounds are an hour & a bit from the first race today. Will the 390m races be electronically started? Hand started? Some form of #8 wire combination of the two as in the past? The last post on the RIU's twitter feed was about harness racing from two days ago. https://twitter.com/riuorgnz?ref_src=twsrc^tfw GRNZ website - no help. https://www.thedogs.co.nz/Home.aspx The newest posting on the Club's websites news section was 20 months ago. http://southlandgreyhounds.co.nz/news/ However, the TAB is more than willing to accept uninformed punts. https://www.tab.co.nz/racing/#2016-04-19-m3-r1
  14. What's going on with some of the tracks around NZ? Ascot as I recall have been hand starts over the 390m for at least the last 3 race meets held there. The Cambridge record doesn't seem to be to any better over the last few race meets either. Once again today all hand starts. Couple those with some of the weight scales that have been under performing from a couple of other venues, a serious issues with less than adequate photo finish technology which has been well documented elsewhere and a flexible starting gate (which now seems corrected) it could be suggested it might be time to unplug tote racing altogether and make it a "hobby" once again. Are clubs that bad off that they repeatedly can't even have the equipment required to hold a race meet operating correctly? Come on people, these should be the easy things to have all sorted before the Trackside truck show up.

Please. However, that'd be likely to even further reduce the number of C5 dogs around.

There's nothing stopping a criminal charge from being filed in the crowns justice system for the charge the RIU decided to drop. It'd only take a phone call from Nathan to the police. To me that's the most serious breach of any rule/law unveiled in the investigation. If a settlement was offered in lieu of a criminal court trial proceeding, it surely would help out a battling trainer much more than a drug assisted win on any track.

So, we have two names (Gonasyn & Fertagyl) of permanently banned drugs, the question has to be asked, how many "B" samples are still kicking around from the last year or so's big races? Maybe it's time to have another look at those samples. It's also well documented that Nathan wasn't the only trainer of dogs, during the same time period, owned either completely or partially David Scott. Those would be the "B" sample I'd be looking at first if I were calling the shots at the RIU lab.

    Springvale Harry

https://www.thedogs.co.nz/catch-the-action/12108/stewards-report.aspx SPRINGVALE HARRY led from the start and had a two length margin over the 2nd dog CROWD GOES WILD on the bend. He then eased until joined by that runner and he then began to race again and finished the race in 2nd place. SPRINGVALE HARRY was referred to the Vet for assessment and found to have quadricep, pectoral and latissimus dorsi injuries requiring a 21 day stand down. SPRINGVALE HARRY is required to complete a satisfactory trial under Rule 80.1 before next starting.

Yes he should, unless he sustained a serious injury. If charged, it'll be his first under our wonderful rules.

Best Bets and Tips for Thursday??

FTP in its first race in NZ. Benefit of the doubt in its second race NZ. So much for close monitoring. ZIPPING DEE and LOVELY RITA came together entering the final straight. ZIPPING DEE shifted in throughout the final straight crowding LOVELY RITA over the concluding stages with ZIPPING DEE then easing down when crossing the finish line with a post race veterinary examination revealing no abnormality. The connections of ZIPPING DEE were shown the footage and spoken to regarding the performance. https://www.thedogs.co.nz/catch-the-action/12087/stewards-report.aspx
