Takes courage to commit a crime as well. Yes, everyone does make mistakes. Most mistakes made are simply an oversight. However some mistakes are made fully knowing what the consequences could be for making the mistake. I acknowledge the apology & remorse expressed.

The RIU didn't crucify anyone. The RIU asked the JCA for a stiffer sentence than the one which handed down. David Scott breached the rules. David Scott was given the chance to defend the charges in the legal system & choose to plead guilty. David Scott was sentenced. Where's the problem in that? That's exactly the way the justice system is meant to work in a democratic society. Will the police have interest in pursuing the dropped charge further? Well they should. Threats of taking someone's life is a much more serious matter than attempting to have a dog drugged for personal advantage.

It's been a couple of months since this topic was last visited. Ascot greyhounds are an hour & a bit from the first race today. Will the 390m races be electronically started? Hand started? Some form of #8 wire combination of the two as in the past? There's nothing stopping a criminal charge from being filed in the crowns justice system for the charge the RIU decided to drop. It'd only take a phone call from Nathan to the police. To me that's the most serious breach of any rule/law unveiled in the investigation. If a settlement was offered in lieu of a criminal court trial proceeding, it surely would help out a battling trainer much more than a drug assisted win on any track.

So, we have two names (Gonasyn & Fertagyl) of permanently banned drugs, the question has to be asked, how many "B" samples are still kicking around from the last year or so's big races? Maybe it's time to have another look at those samples. It's also well documented that Nathan wasn't the only trainer of dogs, during the same time period, owned either completely or partially David Scott. Those would be the "B" sample I'd be looking at first if I were calling the shots at the RIU lab.

He then eased until joined by that runner and he then began to race again and finished the race in 2nd place. SPRINGVALE HARRY was referred to the Vet for assessment and found to have quadricep, pectoral and latissimus dorsi injuries requiring a 21 day stand down. SPRINGVALE HARRY is required to complete a satisfactory trial under Rule 80.1 before next starting.

ZIPPING DEE shifted in throughout the final straight crowding LOVELY RITA over the concluding stages with ZIPPING DEE then easing down when crossing the finish line with a post race veterinary examination revealing no abnormality. What's worse this & who's a farmer doesn't really matter at this point. As I see it, what trainers/breeders are doing currently is within the rules. As I've mentioned previously, bickering back & forth between us isn't going to change a thing. The energy should be focused towards GRNZ to get the much needed change to the rule book. Once it's in there, sorted. With the web poll turning up on their homepage, it appears as though we already have their ear.

I agree with your thoughts GOM. However, isn't there legislation in NZ requiring all dogs to be microchipped, other than maybe some farm dogs as I recall? The magic microchip was going to stop dogs from biting/attacking people.
