I agree absolutely.. Peter Earley is a tremendous broadcaster. He runs a great show on Wednesday and does a great job with Alby on Saturday mornings'
Peter  supports the 3 codes with ability and aplomb.
The questions he asked Mr Godber were  more than reasonable. Unfortunately Mr Godber lacks what i call perspicacity

One of our greatest ever jockeys told me over 50 years ago 'you don't need to 'pull' a horse, you just need to settle it in a hopeless or tight position or be slow away and get clear late.'  Riding to get beaten is fixing to a degree I guess but of course there are cameras able to see every move these days plus we now have a number of exotic betting options to be considered also.

PLEASE spare us the meaningless platitudes when Peter Earley quizzes you about this issue on Trackside Radio today. Any more ducking and diving and I suggest you see if Boxing NZ have any job vacancies.

Reading this article it appears to illustrate the lengths administrators will go to sabotage investigations that involve trainers they believe are above the law,  That appears to be the point of the article is it not?  In nz we know It was reported that a galloping administrator did  the same in the infamous blue magic scandal in nz.   There is nothing new in this ,we all know there is often one rule for some and another rule for others in many situations we encounter as we live life.  Of course administrators can use their power to influence cases both big and small depending on personalities. It  is wrong whenever this happens and should be condemned whether they are helping or persecuting licence holders,is that not the point.

Building the wall cannot be translated literally. Companies that moved their business to Mexico for cheap labour, then sold their products back into America for bigger margins, will have import duty put on their products. America is f#%ked - just like the NZ Racing Industry - because the establishment has sat on its arse, kept the minimum wage under $10 per hour, very little social safety net, etc etc, etc. Democracy worked and now with an Independant President and majority Senate and Congress, the fireworks are about to start! Just what NZ Racing needs, a giant "DOUBLE HAPPY" and a Katherine Wheel under its arse. A clean out, a purge, call it what you like. The Donald will not cop Capitol Hill bullshit. Just watch.

And why don't those vets and farriers lend a hand at the start?

The vet and farrier at Ellerslie sometimes lends a hand, but the majority do nothing except drive around the course in their V8 Range Rovers!
Regarding the head post, horses are 10 times easier to load without jockeys, but for some reason the stewards don't permit them to dismount now. The smart jockeys of yesteryear always dismounted around at the start to keep weight off their mounts back.

Didn't see the race to which you refer...but we do use hoods/blindfolds.
No idea why not in this case.....and yes,  you do see a fair bit of standing around at times when a concerted shove could work.
Just as an aside...it never fails to amuse me when you see various people, barrier staff and others,  waving their arms around pointlessly behind a blinkered horse.
What is that supposed to achieve?

I actually don't agree with you. Everything in horses is an education because they are animals doing something we are making them do. I have seen many a good group one winner who needs special needs care to get them into the barriers. It's your job to work out how to get them in. That fact that you reacted the way you did (and by your own admission you did handle things inappropriately) shows you may not be suited for the job.
Most barrier attendants know what to do. You sir, do not, so give up.

And I agree, great horsemanship (or horsewomanship?).

But surely the race should have been called to a halt.  There needs to be a better system / safety measures in place than hoping the jockeys hear the commentator.  The siren system seems to work well in Harness racing albeit generally racing on smaller tracks.  Today could have had a far worse outcome and the fact it didn't was good luck more than good management.

Equinome needed more money. It had poached the residual blood samples held by Weatherbys and all hell broke loose. in another 20 years something meaningful might arrive but to this point the data said that New Approach couldn't stay and that Almanzour was a sprinter.

I met Phil Bull many moons ago. We ended up doing business with Timeform. In my humble opinion he was right. There have been a squillion squllionaires who have listened to, and invested in, the thoroughbred industry on the advice of so called "breeding experts with an edge". The problem is that it never really works out to be an advantage and this could be one of the reasons why.
It all started when some spied the Akhal Teke or the "Golden Horse" They have a reputation for speed and endurance, intelligence, and a distinctive metallic sheen. The shiny coat of palominos and buckskins led to their nickname "Golden Horses".These horses are adapted to severe climatic conditions and are thought to be one of the oldest existing horse breeds. There are currently about 6,600 Akhal-Tekes in the world, mostly in Turkmenistan and Russia, although they are also found throughout Europe and North America.
There are several theories regarding the original ancestry of the Akhal-Teke, some dating back thousands of years. The tribes of Turkmenistan selectively bred the horses, recording their pedigrees orally and using them for raiding. The breed was used in the losing fight against the Russian Empire, and was subsumed into the Empire along with its country. The Akhal-Teke has influenced many other breeds, including several Russian breeds and in particular the thoroughbred industry. There has been extensive crossbreeding with the Thoroughbred to create a fast, long-distance racehorse and as a result all Akhal-Tekes are a Thoroughbred ancestor. The studbook was closed in 1932. The Russians printed the first stud book for the breed in 1941, including over 700 horses.
The thoroughbred industry started with 4 stallions and 40 broodmares, all from the breed. One stallion died and can be eliminated. One of these stallions. Bryerly Turk, was captured at the Battle of Buda (1686) (or possibly the Battle of Vienna), either by Byerley or another, and sent to England. He definitely served as Captain Byerley's war horse when he was dispatched to Ireland in 1689 during King William's War and saw further military service in the Battle of the Boyne.
The Byerley Turk was reportedly a dark brown or black horse of unknown origins, but described in historic accounts as an Arabian. At the time, Turkish horses were described as descended from " those of Arabia or Persia", but stated that they were longer in the body and of a larger size.He was described as a horse of elegance, courage and speed.
On the path to the creation of the "thoroughbred", certain corrupt practises introduced additional polluted genetics. The benefit of Emmiline Hill's DNA research has now confirmed the scope of the genetic pool, which by most accounts has remained genetically stagnant. So from this group, with a few pollutants, we have been mixing and matching that small genetic window in the attempt to breed the champion. It is interesting to note that very few World records are being created in recent year and many of the experts put this down to the breed having reached its genetic potential. In fact many pundits are saying that the breed is now in a degenerative state (i.e. they are actually slowing down). The concept of Frankel is an interesting one in that despite improved racing services, chemistry and technology, despite this horse winning as he liked, he didn't challenge any track or age group records. That is why his historic World rating is a bit hollow to the purists.
So to the theorists of breeding pattern advantages....there is no statistical data that would suggest that on genetic breeding alone, any thoroughbred horse breeding pattern group has a predictability to it. Sad but true.

integrity reacted to Midget in The truth about Winx
According to the published data Winx race was run in 2.03+ ( someone correct me if this data is wrong please because it does seem incredible  ).
The same data says she ran home from the 1000m mark in 56.83, it thus follows that her first 1000 was run in 66.5 seconds.
That's amazing, I doubt we've ever seen a race of two halves like that before, 66 v. 56, that's taking canter and sprint to a whole new level when the first half is run 65 lengths, about 130m or two thirds of a furlong, slower than the second.
I note too that the two Guineas races, and the Toorak, all recorded last 600s between 34.9 & 35 seconds.
Winx last 600 was 33.61, a full ten lengths faster than the other three G1 races.
Now what do you make of that ? My take is that she had nothing more than a very sharp 1000m gallop.
Is she ready for the Cox Plate ? probably.
Can she win it ? certainly if she repeats last years performance, but is she 100% sound ? that's a very interesting question and Hughie was quite careful when he spoke about this Saturday and the fact she was changing legs again coming around the turn, however Caulfield is such a hole she might have objected to that shit surface whereas the Valley is like carpet.
So many questions, isn't Australian spring racing just the best ?.

We have these disgraceful products here in clean, green NZ.
Marketed by Pfizor under the brand name Premarin, they are made from pregnant mares urine(PMU). If you are going through menopause/or your partner is you may well be prescribed them - break one open and smell if you don't believe. Even the name Premarin is made up from  pregnant mares urine.
The abhorrent practice of keeping these mares tied up in small stalls, constantly pregnant and discarding(most cases) the foals should surely be banned. It's difficult to get accurate figures but conservatively over half a million mares are impregnated each year.
In Canada where most is produced it was their largest drug export(was at one point-may still be)
There are far better/kinder products on the market when choosing to go onto hormone replacement therapy (HRT) - please ask for an alternative.

    Seriously ??
Did you believe Bayliss & Brown too ? There's not a shred of evidence that John Allen, the NZRB, Alan Jackson, or NZTR have any ideas we haven't heard before, other than the promised Race Fields legislation and the unbundling of the associated IP, and even that's the subject of some considerable doubt as to its merit.
What did you think John Allen was going to say ? he's got to sell dreams to gullible people just as his predecessors did, and if you swallow that there's a fair bit of Monica Lewinsky in you.
Did he mention that the only significant increase in revenue they'd managed to generate was the 15 million from pokies ?
Did he mention the fact they'd not spent a single cent on code specific infrastructural investment ?
Did he mention the fact they've completely and absolutely brazenly ignored clause 8 (or 9 ?) of the Racing Act, that which pertains to welfare and wellbeing of those who derive their living from the industry ?
I can't believe an intelligent human being would swallow this repetitive hyperbole and hot air from each and every CEO of the NZRB.....oh that's right....it was the Wellingron Breeders and they're probably a bit out of touch with reality too.

If a club like Foxton can sustain itself (which it will largely have to under this regime) what business is it of anyone's whether they stay open as a racing or training centre?
I'm always perplexed as to how the centralisation crowd think the horses in training at these venues will just move somewhere else to train, most of them won't they will pull out of the game altogether. It's critical these smaller venues are at the very least given a fair chance of survival for without them the sport in this country is absolutely knackered!

I thought this thread was about the junket, the excess, the indulgence and alleged abuse of industry funds for non productive activities.
I still can't see your point, it's irrelevant whether it was Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, China, or Fiji...the thread is about the NZRB sending six people on a junket isn't it ??
Your point about other countries selling horses to Mongolia is also irrelevant because that's private enterprise, private individuals selling their stock, it's got nothing to do with a government owned body like the NZRB using industry funds extravagantly has it ??
Many private companies and individuals went on this trip, using their own hard earned money, no one has criticised that to my knowledge, but do tell me if I'm wrong.
    Thanks.
