Grant R reacted to gubellini in Maybe some good news
Wonder if the DCM letter can be photocopied about a dozen times and be given a wider distribution?!

Grant R reacted to TOM(the other Molloy) in Maybe some good news
Assuming it is someone on the NZTR or NZB payroll it is drawing a long bow to describe him or her as a leader isn't it?
More accurate to describe them as an industry bludger than a leader?

The word around the traps is that one of our leaders has been given the DCM letter.
I believe a statement will be released shortly.
It will say something along these lines.
He is missing family back in Australia/We would like to thank him for the time he has been with us and increasing turnover and we are grateful for his efforts,
I will let the spin doctors write his farewell letter,as that is what they get the big salaries paid and why they are so good at it,They can turn negatives turn into positives, only this time it is all positive.

Memo Mike Godber
PLEASE spare us the meaningless platitudes when Peter Earley quizzes you about this issue on Trackside Radio today. Any more ducking and diving and I suggest you see if Boxing NZ have any job vacancies.

Grant R got a reaction from hedley in Volpe Veloce
As documented she is out in the paddock having a spell with a plan in place for where she is going to go next. Richie has pulled her out of the Oaks and Derby believing at this stage that 2000 or more is a step to far early in her career. They had to try she was showing she maybe able to do it but these things happen.
I notice that Richie has been at the Inglis sales in Sydney and picked up 3 well bred yearlings at what i would say very good prices one especially he couldn't pass up was a Foxwedge filly for approximately half the price he paid for Velope Veloche so it will be interesting to see how she goes i am one who will follow with interest

Grant R reacted to Huey in Allan Sharrock
The most amazing thing to me about these high profile trainers leaving or looking to leave, meetings being setup for discussions on the industry etc is the utter silence from NZTR , nothing nada no initiatives , no stories of hope , how they are reducing costs for participants , no updates on what they are doing to steem the tide or make things better in the future just absolute utter silence!
Only the same line they have been pulling for years that the NZRB need to increase the distribution so we have more $ for stakes and they'll keep pushing that line whilst playing for time.
If that doen't tell you that the leadership in that organisation needs a sort out then nothing will.

Good on you Big Al,you won't regret it. Both Vic and NSW racing leaves NZ for dead. It's sad but true NZ racing is now only for those trying to sell to Asia and those doing it as a hobby.
We made the move 12months ago and have never regretted it,even on the 39deg days.
Mr Purcell you and your Board of Directors are a disgrace to the NZ racing industry, which was once great. Wake up and do something which you can be proud of.

It's not a surprise, he's a very good operator and will fit into their environment without fuss, and reap the appropriate rewards.
He's not the biggest name looking West though......we're haemorrhaging horse, humans, and intellectual property at such a rate we must inevitably implode, yet the organizations who should be acting to remedy the situation do nothing !!!
Sadly it's nothing more than dereliction of duty on multiple fronts and Sharrock's move is just another symptom of that failure of duty.

George is welcome at Reefton any day. Great commentator. As is T Lee, M Cross, M MacNamara, J Teaz or any of them
G Purcell might not be so warmly received

Grant R reacted to gubellini in Williams/Richards partnership
Confirming my post from yesterday about a trainer probably moving to Victoria. Alan Sharrock just announced on Trackside Radio that he is looking at properties in Victoria. Cited that if a horse of his runs second in a $7,000 race the jockey gets $230 and he gets $140. Alan is very angry and rightfully so about our woefully inadequate stakes.

Grant R reacted to gubellini in Breeding Industry - Sales
Insider totally agree that Salaries of the freeloaders at the head of the NZRB should be performance based. People are voting with their feet. Crowd size at the Select Sale on Wednesday and yesterday well down on previous years. No incentive to race horses while minimum stakes are cemented at $7,000. As for the Festival Sale NZ Bloodstock should be playing the song Sunday Bloody Sunday over the intercom.

Biff My Giddy Aunt you have the wisdom of Solomon and the strength of Sampson. I would love the NZRB to Redeem The Dream and Keep Up with Global Thinking and abandon their Fixation with salaries and perks but I fear I am a Romancer.

I were personally going to go to a syndicator a few years back and looked at the options and to be honest once waying it all up cost, communication and say in the horse I looked at it as alot of associated costs for a lessor return. I am not knocking them as they have a place in the industry.
What i did do was spoke to some trainers and discussed options I settled on Graham Richardson zero mark up on horses and zero syndication fees so what you get is training fee, Vet account , Pre training account and Transport account with no mark up .As for communication we get weekly updates with in more cases than not video of the horses and he is always able to talk and discuss about the horses .
Now that might not be everyones cup of tea but it works for me

Anyone asking me about ownership I advise them to contact a trainer and discuss what shares are available. Trainers are always looking for new clients and generally will do the best they can for you in my experience.

I've had one horse with a major syndicator.
Communication was good, good website, few perks etc. They did many things well.
I will agree the monthly invoices often were eye popping and I suspected that there were little margins on everything built in, and little areas (yeah covers being one, charges for use of racing colours etc etc) which I thought were OTT.
My major objection was the total lack of input into decision making - the only decision i was ever asked to agree to was sending the horse overseas. And even that was presented in the only phone call I ever got from the manager as "everyone else has agreed to do this etc etc etc..."
The decision to quit the horse and sell when he didn't acclimatise was poorly communicated and effectively had no input.
So for me - never again.
I struck up a relationship with a local trainer who gave me the option to get into a few horses which are raced with a group of his other local owners. We've had some success, very social and really enjoyed it.
Col
PS - in the interest of fairness I know people 3 or 4 people involved in syndications which have worked really well on many fronts... so there is a place for it.
