  1. Yes l read that Cat , have u had a look at the head on?. I'm not sure if it was SS or Hauraki that took GM s "gap" he was going for, still Cassidy has not commented or pm hoping wants to keep attention away from a bit of an unlucky run!!. Still very happy to be on for MC. Your horse went a slasher for 3rd and on that bs to rate highly for MC.
  2. Remember years ago Tony Lee called a horse the stablemates name all through the race and from memory it won and was the Wellington Cup?, bloody Dulux colour fiasco days!!!!!. Name escapes me of the horse and trainer, but was from CD and horse was a double barrelled name/ green/ black colours with a Maltese cross.... Got it now !!.....John Boon Waverley. Think Tony ended up doing a "voice over" for the connections.
  3. Well got my backside well and truly smacked there!!. Snow Sky came out under the neck of Grand Marshal at about the 200 and put paid to GM most likely being first Waller horse home instead of WSTB. I'm still happy to have GM in MC though. So on to Geelong on Wed, field to be confirmed but the moms look exciting at this stage. Great race yesterday and greater result!!.
  4. Did cross my mind Scooby. If there was a representation at the arc as earlier reported, l am sure that it would have been to observe how the French conduct. racing and how it could enhance NZ . Probably off to the Cox in a cold of weeks.
  5. Quite possibly Von, no doubt very busy trying to stem the leakage that is sinking NZ racing.
  6. Hi Cat, Nah have not gone too hard on GM just 50/200 fixed as well as a couple of others for TOP4 finish last week when the prices were good. I see someone bagged Magicools entry to the CC over a couple of others, I have to say I think he is actually a top 4 chance tomorrow and have backed him for that at 17s. To the MC I like OI better than FG at this stage, but yes Tenno show was impressive. your Gust of Wind is a top chance as she is a bit "bull dog" and as we know often in a CC you may need to "bump" a few out of the way to get some clear air in the last 200m. I always like Oaks and Derby winners in the CC as it is actually a bit of a tricky distance, hence my thoughts on Magicool the duck eggs are actually not as bad as they seem if you have a close look. but as usual only my opinion. Anyway good luck with your investments ,if I don't get any return , hope you do.
  7. In one I have settled on Grand Marshall, for the following reasons. He reminds me of Kelinni and the prep he had to the MC, just had to go through the Lexus to qualify. I backed him before the Lexus to run top4 in MC at 21's. Seems to be a pattern to his racing leading up to his "grand finals" Last Spring raced well in Sydders and the "grand final" appears to have been the early staying event (2800) on Oaks day. Bonus that he has had a win at Flemington. Autumn this year very similar pattern up to the Sydney Cup which was his "grand final" . Bonus a win at 3200. This Preparation Last 3 starts has carried 59- drops to 53.5 for the CC. He is pretty lethal at his 4th up start, his siblings all by different sires have won at this distance range, Cassidy has been on for a while now and knows this race well. So for all the above I think he is a great chance to run extremely close tomorrow and be a very real chance in the MC as well. I may be totally off the pace here but have just had a lash at him for CC and MC first 4 placings. Happy to back myself on this one, been wrong before and will be again.....just hope not tomorrow please "racing gods"!!!
  8. Update on the update, l have called NZTR this morning and have confirmation that email has been received and forwarded to Mr Purcell yesterday. So all good.
  9. Well none really, not even thanks for emailing us and we will get back to you shortly or anything..... Might give them a call in the morning and just enquire where we are up to, or on who's desk it has been placed. Depending on the answer .....l do have to go into town tomorrow so might just pop a copy into the local MPs office. I did meet Winston earlier in the year when he was campaigning. It was on the street mind you , however we did chat about the decline in NZ racing. Hope he remembers me.
  10. I was doing back flips (short-lived) when Amralah won on Saturday as I had a bit of a lash at it at $10s to run top4 in the CC...... and could not see it beat on Saturday. Did have some concerns when it had a bit of an Ooooops at the start. The last couple of MCs have in indicated that rather than the stayer who stays 3200 is the best bet, the best chances now need to possess some brilliance in say the last 600. Just an opinion but I was thinking Amralah and The US may possess it, just do not know what to make of Foundry?. Hartnell springs to mind as well but he is going Cox Plate path to the Cup. Anyway lots of water under the bridge before we get to our favourite Tues in November.
  11. My thoughts are It was part of a problem that in turn highlighted a larger problem. That incident of the gates failing could well have happened at any course at anytime. Yes the funds that are being collected are not being reinvested in necessary infrastructure. We have seen it on numerous occasions wether it be one or numerous gates that fail . As investors in any event , we accept there may be external factors that impact the outcome......it's the rules & regs that are there to be applied in this case that were determined illogically is really the only description l have!. I actually think the starter will bear the brunt of this sadly.....the adage "workman only as good as his tools" springs to mind. You are correct though, someone does need to go straight to "advanced flag waving school" .
  12. Get through this and see what the platings indicate with a view to the MC. Geelong Cup and the Lexus should be great affairs!. My thoughts are Team Williams Will be targeting those 2 races to get another one or two in the MC. But which ones??
  13. Here ya go email sent to Mr Purcell Serious concerns in regard to Race 2 Timaru and subsequent flawed ruling by JCA Dear Mr Purcell, I am writing in regard to the incident that took place on Friday 9th October at the Timaru Race Meeting in particular Race 2. As you may be aware this race did not quite go as well as expected . Firstly due to aged equipment not being reliable, and secondly considerable hesitation by the starter in declaring a false start. This is all well accepted as happened on the day, and now widely reported in the general media for example STUFF.co.nz , as well as a popular topic on Racing Enthusiast sites. It is unfortunate to have a race marred by events such as those that occurred, however the real travesty in this case is what transpired post-race when a ruling was sought from the JCA representatives by the steward Mr McLaughlin. The report that was produced is in my opinion based on an incomplete interview process by way of the “sample” of interviewees. This coupled with the interpretation of the relevant clauses of the act that the JCA Representatives have applied/quoted in their ruling /decision, has led to what I strongly believe is a flawed decision . I am of the strong opinion that the race was in fact not run on its merits and the outcome not fair and reasonable to all participants. Firstly- The recorded times of identical events on the day (Maiden 1200 meters) clearly show a much slower time recorded for Race2. I assert the reason for this is perhaps one or more of the Jockeys did hesitate somewhere along the way. The small sample of Jockeys that were interviewed may not have readily admitted to a hesitation / not doing what they normally would, due to the race was not going to be voided, they would in fact have incriminated themselves to the charge of “not riding a horse on its merits/showing no vigour”. An invidious position for them indeed. Or perhaps if we put it into the “race pattern” or “pressure in a race” sense the other fields actually both had 14 starters, Race 2 would have had 14 starters, and most likely a more consistent time in line with Race 1 & 3. Therefore the outcome of Race 3 was affected by the reduction of 6 runners as well as the confusion that ensued. Race1) 1 10 42 Race2) 1 11 50 Race 3) 1 09 79 Secondly- The False start was declared albeit delayed, however since it may not have actually occurred to anyone making the ultimate decisions. Perhaps the delay arose when the starter did see virtually half the field still in the starting gates he got a bit of a “start” (excuse the pun) and did not quite believe his eyes ,and that led to the delay. Here is an excerpt from the starters manual for your perusal. It would seem that there are two separate actions required, the false start and the operational plan. The JCA have not recognised in their ruling, by stating “The remaining horses raced on in “genuine” fashion with no idea that a false start had been declared. From the Starter's Manual: 7.1 False Start The Starter may signal a false start where in their opinion runners were not afforded a fair start due to mechanical failure of the barrier stalls, such as gates opening prematurely, slowly, or not at all. As a guide, false starts should be declared when: - One or more gates open prematurely in any race. - More than two gates are slow to open or fail to open in any race. - Two gates are slow to open or fail to open in races with 6 or less starters. - One or more gates are slow to open or fail to open in any race run over more than one full circuit of the track. (Given both that such gates and horses may impede horses racing into the straight on a second occasion and staying horses are more likely to be able to be restrained when a false start is called). In the event of a false start being declared, the Starter is to ensure that the False Start operational plan is put into effect and that immediate communication is made with the relevant officials to inform them of this decision. . Action I am requesting you undertake I am requesting that you have this decision reviewed and overturned by whoever you deem to be able to interpret the rules as they should have been in this case. This event could and should have been declared null and void. I also note that the NZTR have “elected” to pay the connections of the late scratched horses $500.00 plus riding fees?. The term elected interests me from the point that it would indicate it has been a voluntary action and not a normal compensation that is forthcoming for inconvenienced parties. Keeping in mind now that the NZTR can make “elected” decisions in regard to what really is a “goodwill” gesture, perhaps the TAB arm can now follow suit and refund all bets on the unplaced runners (4th-8th) as well as “top up” the diminished dividends that were paid after 6 late scratchings. I support the argument above with portions (highlighted) from the actual JCA report published on Monday the 12th. e) the interests of the public who have invested on that race…. In terms of considering the “absolute discretion” that we have we are mindful of a decision of the Appeal Judges in the case involving the 1996 Kurow Cup. “Deciding how to exercise a discretion involves an intellectual process of weighing relevant factors, excluding irrelevant factors and reaching a rational conclusion capable of explanation with reasons. It requires qualities of sound judgement, wisdom and logic, as well as an instinct for fair play. Discretions are conferred under the Rules of Racing so that decision makers have the flexibility necessary to ensure that racing’s image as a sport is administered with fairness and integrity is fostered and protected. The factors to be weighed or to be excluded can only be identified from the particular facts of each case. For that reason, and because any formula would tend to fetter the decision-maker’s discretion, there cannot be any predetermined list of factors to apply”. The resolution I am seeking Mr Purcell, I have supported NZ racing for over 40 years by way of investing solely with the NZ TAB , there have been times where I have been dissatisfied with rulings post race but I accept that it is a wager that I place on an outcome. With the events that took place on Friday and the subsequent inept ruling based on a flawed investigation I currently have no confidence to further invest another dollar in NZ racing if this is the result I am expected to accept. Since this event on Friday I have not supported one NZ race via the TAB website. I have diverted all my interest and funds to Australian races as a protest. Please note I take no pleasure in taking this stand and would be willing to reverse that stance should some common sense be able to be applied here. Therefore I am requesting that based on the argument and points I have put forward this decision is reviewed and overturned . All investments refunded. The actual JCA report states in their summary “The factors to be weighed or to be excluded can only be identified from the particular facts of each case.” This event that took place is an extremely unusual case ,and in turn perhaps requires an unusual and unique remedy by your organisation. As an aside whilst Race2 was being “run” I was actually filling out the latest TAB survey, these have mainly been targeted at establishing what is referred to as “leakage”. I did comment in the survey that I would really like to see F/O on HK racing or I may consider taking my business offshore. If I can be quite pointed here bugger HK , I now have a reason to take all of my business offshore. Since May I have deposited and turned over upwards of $33,716 with NZ TAB. This is actually the not about the $50.00 I unfairly lost on Mulberry (the other bet was refunded as a late scratching) it is the principal of the matter. Or if you will the last straw scenario. Please advise a timeframe for a review decision. Sincerely SXXXXXX XXXXX TAB ACCT # XXXXXX
  14. Yep you are correct Lecithin!!, having read the STUFF item that Bimbo has put up....these JCA lot look like a pack of twits. They are going to throw the starter "under the bus" that is quite clear from the report. Yep it was a stuff-up, but having read that report from JCA today....with that info in front of them it was really a 50/50 call , and would have just been as easy to do the right thing and void the race. MIND BOGGLING and now due to STUFF the general reader is most likely thinking WTF!!. Will restructure the email and include the item that Rdytdy/Curious have provided and go again!!.
  15. Totally agree on LV, l think it may be her swansong , although the QE on final day would be a nice bonus as well. Not nommed for any other features so CC total focus, currently 6s to run top4 in CC... that would be a very good bet .
  16. Christ!!! Just sat down at the desk to finish and send my epistle, and saw this.first. Mainly l was requesting that they get the head sherang to review the decision. Interestingly this report was lodged today and not Friday...gave them the whole weekend to come up with that little gem. Well l know what l have to do now ...and since l hold a number of potentially lucrative "first 4 placing" futures bets on the Caulfield Cup and l can not ask the TAB to cancel those bets as per their own T&Cs for futures l am in the position that l can not close my TAB account until Monday the 19th October. That will conclude a 40 year relationship with them and in turn more importantly NZ Racing!. That really saddens me. However l no longer have confidence in their processes....RACING INTEGRITY!! And fostering investment and interest as per their own website!!! Hmm-mph anyone like a Tui's?. Bugger was a great email, have to start the sayonara one now for Monday morning.
  17. I found that one early afternoon at 20/5 s fixed, you must have got it earlier than me!!, it had performed well in Adelaide earlier in the year. There was another one in race 6 at Cranbourne as well General ?? Course and diet stats super and 2nd up record superb. The new weight system will take a while to come into play methinks.... Lots of horses up a notch in grade and weight as well.....but you found one at a price.... Xcellent going!!.
  18. Yes l will be cc'Ing the email to someone of the ilk you have mentioned in your last paragraph. . It really is not about the money now just the principal of it all for me. Thanks for your input, I'm just starting to compose the email now .
  19. You raise a good point Peter, that is the only other thing that could have made this situation worse. Had one of the 8 jockeys that "got away" hesitated in riding their mounts..... they could well have been charged with "failing to give their mount every chance of whatever it is"
  20. Cheers for that, all suggestions appreciated in this . As l said l have had a guts full of rank decisions, and l will take my dollars away from NZ TAB!, they will most likely wave me goodbye but I will give it a decent go!!. There is no reason that the decision can not be reviewed by the head JCA sherang, overturned and who ever made it counselled and sent for retraining..... They do it in rugby , league and cricket don't they?.
  21. Thanks for that Rdytdy ,so we do not have names for JCA rep/s or any recordings of what the jocks or trainers said in the report.... Strange methinks, l usually lose the will to live reading the lengthy reports, was expecting that one to resemble a chapter of War & Peace!!!.
  22. Just before I compose my email registering a formal complaint requesting a review of the decision about yesterdays total stuff-up, I just want to clarify a couple of points. The Stipe report states that an opinion was sought from the JCA....so were there JCA reps on course or did they ring the bureau and perhaps inadvertently pose the question to the tea-lady or cleaner....or an actual JCA person?. although I strongly believe that the line in the stipes report "there was a delay in the starter declaring a false start" that should have been "game-set-match in regard to the race being voided and all investments refunded. In addition there does not appear to be any record of the 8 competing jockeys being canvassed as there is nothing recorded in the report. ***(by no means am I blaming the starter personally) I can not see anywhere the JCA rep/s that were involved are named,or am I missing something??. As i stated in the original thread this has really done it for me as far as this organisation goes. I have not invested one dollar on NZ racing today as part of my protest, currently I have no confidence in the judicial process should their ruling be necessary. this will remain the situation until I have a response from NZTR/Mr Purcell. Time now to get very serious and complete my email to Mr Purcell, now i can already hear and anticipate some of the responses that you all may have in regard to this!. I intend to request that not only my $50.00 investment on one of the deemed runners be refunded to me BUT any other investments that have been taken from clients in my opinion fraudulently. After all what would they have gained on the 5 unplaced runners? However I will be pointing out to Mr Purcell that since May I have deposited into my account sums totalling $33,716 , virtually half of that sum $14,950 since the beginning of September as I do get a bit more serious in Spring/Summer. ( Happy to provide admin with deposit records, I am not a person who is "full of it") Oh as an aside I have turned over every dollar of that as I was slightly peeved when i was in receipt of the "money laundering" email!!. I am fully prepared for a negative response from NZTR/Mr Purcell , however it will be a valuable exercise to have a confirmation that my investments are not important to them as an organisation to at least review the shabby decision yesterday....I actually do also have a concern for any person who even lost $2.00. Apologies for the ramble but this is actually quite important to me as an avid and passionate follower of NZ racing for many years!!. To clarify the 2 questions, I can not see anywhere the JCA rep/s that were involved are named,or am I missing something??. What would the TAB have gained or held in investments on the 5 unplaced runners? Your input would be appreciated , as I do not want to look like a dick when I send the email!!!
  23. "After hearing all relevant submissions".....ummmm what did the Jockeys report??
  24. Well this has absolutely done it for me, especially after the email a couple of weeks ago telling me I could only withdraw a certain amount of winnings....in case I was a crimina!!!, Funny thing today was I was actually filling out the latest survey from the TAB when the race was run, yet again suggesting FO on HK would be a good innovation for punters. Back to todays debacle for the record I had 10/40 on Velluto and 5/45 on Mulberry. Kept checking the TAB site for the result , and realised there was a delay. That sort of delay would normally indicate an enquiry of some sort, but usually that is indicated in the preliminary result. I agree with most here that there is a likelihood that the jocks that got "away" may have realised there was some issue and may have experienced some confusion .....however as a race is not usually that long there is a fine line between pulling up a horse before it expends itself and would not be able to recover in time to return to the start. I to have noticed that the stipes report is not posted as yet, hmmmm I wonder what it will report......especially as the 6 competitive jocks would have to have been canvassed for their opinions as to what the hell was going on!!!. Anyway i have been in touch with Crownbet this arvo and arranged a deposit of $1000.00 au, they have matched that and the way I structure my bets....BONUS!!. Will turn over the free bets in a couple of weeks. They also offer an EFTPOS card that you can transfer your winnings to, not available to Kiwis currently but they assure me that it is not far away. Will wait for the stiles report and see if my suspicions are correct in regard to the Jocks comments before I call the TAB and request a refund of the bet on Mulberry, now I am certain that the answer will be GOOOOO JUMP but will see. Have to say I am saddened to think that today may well have been my final ever bet through the NZ TAB, in turn supporting NZ racing.
