  1. Probably a provision to facilitate the dumping of an incumbent if he/she is an absolute plonker. However, if the board members reside in Plonkerville, perhaps they see no need for change?
  2. In all-ages, 4 at 2,000 metres (including Livamol) seems excessive, especially with 2 at Ellerslie. Same number at 1,600 metres, where 2 are at Trentham. Would drop those at s.w. & p. as not desirable for Group 1 races. If the derby and other 3 y.o. races are reduced, can you justify the grading when the same horses are older? Will they improve with age or head to Australia for more money? Still no desire for a race at the classic distance of 2,400 metres, such as Le Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
  3. Miss Kate, br. (2), born in 1873, Sporting Life - Adventurer, was imported in 1878. Ancestress of; Phar Lap, Picaroon, Kindergarten & Golden Souvenir, Sunline, Interval, Cheyne Walk, Planet Kingdom, Monte Carlo, Blue Jacket, Soliloquy et al, Cicada, Prince Grant, Silver Knight, Rajah Sahib and other stakes-winners. With Phar Lap, Kindergarten and Sunline in the family, would rate as No. 1 broodmare.
  4. "exciting and innovative" - might cause a little thrill but has been done before so hardly innovative, as many people have been asking for this for years. The industry needs to attract more customers to progress further. Free Trackside TV might help.
  5. Agree with you. The R.I.B. case, as reported, has more holes than a golf course; 1/ 'the rule "makes no reference to a substance being, or having to be, "performance-enhancing" (or a "prohibited substance")'. Then the rule it is quite pointless. Can water be considered a substance that is potentially performance-enhancing? 2/ If the method of administering is critical, could the same substance be administered without question? Again, would watering by a syringe be unacceptable? 3/ the 'one clear day' rule also looks suspect, unless scientific evidence is available for any substance administered to a horse, say 2-3 days before racing. 4/ 'it is well-known that turmeric is a spice with health benefits and it has some potentially anti-inflammatory properties although this has not been (the) (sic) subject to scientific peer review'. So, it is bad because ....? Wouldn't water have an anti-inflammatory effect? My doctor recently recommended a "well-known" herbal product for me. When I checked on Cochrane, there was no significant evidence to support that but it remains "well-known" and people still buy it, so it must be true? This decision just looks stupid. The substance might, or might not, be of benefit to a horse but isn't banned and there is no good evidence to its efficacy. Is this ca-ca? Looks like it!
  6. National Records. Haven't up-dated my list for several years but had listed the times from 800 m. to 3,200m. For distances over 1,400m., all times were set before 1994, except for 2,500m. in 1995. The 1,200m. of 1:06.59 by Victory Dais in 1993, may have been bettered if Trentham could accurately measure the time and distance. High Glee ran 6 furlongs in 1:08, in 1968 and Johnny Cash ran 1.5 miles in 2.25, in 1969. Fifty years later and the speed of all horses may have increased but appears that there is little improvement at the "elite" level. So, did all the expensive, imported stallions and mare add much pace? Races will always have a winner but are they getting better? Captain Cook, an otherwise modest performer, went under 2 minutes for 2,000m. in 1992 - 30 years ago. How often does that happen?
  7. Hunza - a megastar now; e.g. Wolverine and that Gr. 2 mare recently.
  8. N.P. on leased land and no room to expand any facilities or increase the size of the track. Perhaps there is a cunning plan to (re)introduce racing to Urenui or Awakino - might be some flat land there after the roadworks have finished. Mt. Messenger by-pass hasn't started. Needs to be North of N.P. as the next track in that direction is not at Taumarunui - when did that close? Then Waipa or Te Rapa, because there is no course at Whangamomona. A proposal from D.o.D.O. - Department of Daft Objectives?
  9. Tell that to the connections of the other horses who were denied a fair go. C.G.A. expects that all trades-people are competent in their craft. Had I been an affected party, I would be talking to lawyers. Agree with the post by NextPlease, seeing how long it can take a horse to wind up.
  10. Yes - query their jurisdiction. He is not employed by Racing Victoria so, as an independent contractor (sort of), could not be accused of bringing the sport into disrepute as he was not referring to R.V. On shaky ground in trying to limit his freedom of speech.
  11. 'transformational change' - is that like strategic planning? More synonyms at which you can shake a wooden, timber, rod-like pole? 'leading and driving' - very flexible or a split personality? 'multi-dimensional organisation' - I thought that it was solely concerned with racing of thoroughbred horses. 'strong relationships both internally and eternally' - typing error or the appointee stays forever? Is tautology a requirement in M.B.A. study?
  12. O'Reilly owed a lot to Hunza - from an established N.Z. family.
  13. The prejudice against N.Z.-bred stallions has been long-standing. Even saw a post here about "colonial-bred stallions" - a vomitable expression nowadays. With a closed gene pool, everybody can only mix the same ingredients. More expensive stallions were imported, especially from the 1990s on, but with no discernible improvement in results. You can find stallions in Australia that carry N.Z. blood-lines as they seem to have a greater belief in the local product. When you see Sunline, Winx and Verry Elleegant (sorry for the spelling!), you might wonder what happened to their brothers and nephews. Black Caviar, through her sire, could be included.
  14. Darned good horse. Spelling is annoying when trying to search for her results - but worth the effort. Was there any reason for the spelling?
  15. How likely is it that there will be an impartial judge at their hearing, when the judiciary is similar to a 'closed shop' work-place and they seem to be beyond reproach? Read somewhere recently about the Judicial Conduct Commissioner but, as I recall, he/she is not very busy - like nobody has ever been censured? As usual, remorse is only needed when you are caught.
  16. Then add imported blood through the dams. Explosive Jack - 3rd dam Australian, then Irish. Kukeracha - American, Irish & English lines. Western Empire - 4th dam was local. Johnny Get Angry - 2nd dam Australian, then Irish.
  17. poundforpound - do you not recognize abuse, your self? No worry. Complaints should be addressed to the C.E.O. of the T.A.B. also, as well as spleen-venting here. As I said, the victim should take T.A.B. to court, if he thinks that he has a strong case.
  18. In commercial law, retailers are not obliged to complete a transaction for an incorrect price. Thus, 'customers' can't alter price tickets then claim that the item has to be sold at that price. However, this is a technical point in contract law; offered - accepted, but betting agencies put that disclaimer in their Terms & Conditions, as stated above. Likewise, if a bank puts money in your account by mistake, the onus is on the recipient to prove that they could reasonably assume that they were entitled to the money. Could a court case succeed? Don't know but abusing T.A.B. staff and systems won't resolve it.
  19. I doubted that I was terribly interested to read this. However, a few paragraphs of corporate speak convinced me to sell my computer. Even give it away. Should N.Z.T.R. look elsewhere than the N.Z. T.A.B. for a gambling service? Who owns what?
  20. Looked at courses a few years ago and found that the diagrams hadn't been up-dated or corrected for ages, if ever. Love Racing web-site has them in 2D and satellite photographs but many are quite different, so much so that the 2D diagrams could be ignored. Longest straights should be Te Aroha and Pukekohe, at 1,050 metres (sum of back and front), then Ashburton and Riccarton at 1,000 metres.
  21. Had forgotten about this. No progress made and still working on the spring clean (from one Spring to the next, then the next ....). Not much interest nowadays but hope that old books and magazines might find a home.
  22. To avoid that, insist that your horses do track work only during office hours, Monday to Friday!
  23. As a point of law, the comments relate (mostly) to Grimstone's previous employment so why does it concern the J.C.A.?
  24. The defence of honest opinion would apply in civil law but it would never get near a court. As the subject claimed to be politically incorrect, why would he object to plain speaking? Being overly precious?
  25. As in any business, the trend over several years is more significant.
