Congratulations to Cambridge CEO ,  committee and workers who organised the first meeting on the new synthetic track today.
Certain myths and doubts were dealt to on the opening day !
The 970m distances , predicted leaders bias , trainers doubt's were all thrown out as negatives but surely these were dispelled  on opening day!
The track performed brilliantly ,so soon after a power of trials and track work held and winners came from all over the track and the province !
Certainly the camber on the final bend a real plus. The width of the track seems adequate for fields of 12 ...no issue there !
The top trainers and jockeys in the North were out in force and perhaps the most telling endorsement came from the many in racing who now realise the huge benefits in having a consistent good racing surface when winter approaching and horses faced with different tracks every week.
Folk seem depressed with the heavy bottomless bogs which can pop up in winter.
Sure the facility has some way to go.......temporary toilets, little viewing areas etc but a real community feel to the day and a very positive start to a 'new' era in NZ racing.
Great that the horses  very close to those attending , in parade ring and the last 200m.

Yes bring back traditional radio Trackside.
Listening to any radio station on a mobile device wears out ones batteries to.
 
 At least with an ordinary radio one can take it outside, turn the volume to a sound one can hear it inside and outside.
Mobile ph devices it's definitely not the done thing.
 
Wake up Racing industry.
Has anyone considered organising a Change.org petition to ensure the return of Radio Trackside  on Traditional Radio along with Free to Air TV coverage so the wider community can have a say to?
 
we hear people from time to time ring other talk back stations from time to time saying they "Used to listen to Radio Trackside" but it's  at the moment not here for us.

I imagine the trainer is a bit dopy. Balloted in a rating 88 when it could have got a start in a maiden over the same distance. Perhaps we need an intelligence test when people apply for a trainers licence.

Love my race book and will miss them. 

My favourite track Trentham some 50 years of going there, but sadly I think it should close - sell up and create a venue at Kapiti Coast
Trentham is very run down and an item of history, very sad to say that but it is over

Hardly surprising. Recent fields up north have been appalling with tiny fields racing for $30,000+. The dates and programming are all wrong.

I don't get it and I'm fuming. How the hell can the Sir Tristram Classic be renamed the David and Karen Ellis Fillies Stakes? NZTR....work out your policies in respect of naming these important and historic group races, especially the 3 yo group races. We have catalogues where we try and work out the merits of the black type races. If you change the names how the hell are we going to follow what race is what. And fancy changing the name from an iconic stallion that is immortal to a race after two people's name where one of them is the chair person of the racing club. if you get a sponsor, then call it the David and Karen Ellis Sir Tristram Classic.
Come on you people....this is crazy

When winning the last race at Taupo on Flourishing he won the last race for that decade in the North Island (2010 -2019). 
Yesterday he won the first race at Ellerslie which would have been the first race run in the world for this decade and his win later on the programme on Julius in the Railway being the first G1 race in the world this decade also.
Fabulous and special day at Ellerslie yesterday and thank you Leo for your wonderful hospitality on the day. Most appreciated.      

thats what i thought when Tavistock was injured following demise of Roaring Lion. The Lindsays deserve a change of luck.

From ANZ Bloodstock News this morning.
"Second surgery for Tavistock

Cambridge Stud stallion Tavistock (Montjeu) has undergone a second round of surgery after suffering a serious injury to his near fore foot last week. The injury saw his immediate withdrawal from service. Cambridge Stud yesterday said that Tavistock had been operated on by Dr Ric Redden from Kentucky in the US on Friday with assistance from staff at the Cambridge Equine Hospital. An artificial shoe and sole to the foot was fitted while a support structure was applied to the other foot to aid his recovery. After observation, it was decided to perform another operation yesterday which was deemed a success. In a statement, Cambridge Stud said Tavistock’s recovery could take up to 12 months."
 
All the best to Tavistock and the Cambridge Stud team. They are obviously pulling out all stops, by getting in a vet from the US.

Crazy system at present we are most likely to race our horse which likely to be On the ballot in its own grade out of its grade as it’s the only option to get a start. Maybe they need the odd rating 65 race that is limited to 2 wins max ?

Maybe if the NZTR, NZTBA & NZTM got together and promoted the industry within the high schools and with the career advisors it could help. We have struggled to put this across; we have seen the lack of information there is available to students re the industry, whereas other industries have posters and brochures with point of contact but not this industry. Our daughter is lucky as we know the contacts, but if a student had parents who know nothing about the industry the schools would not be able to help. I have even suggested they have a site at the likes of the Equi days promoting the industry (jobs and racing), many potential young people there and dragging their parents along who may have never thought about joining a syndicate.  
But these are only my thoughts!
