Dopey reacted to Palatable in Circus Maximus
Agree with Dopey, bloodlines suggest Circus Maximus is mile & above, King of Comedy less so.
I didn't like the mare matches on average for either of these stallions at Karaka. Breeder flags up Showcasing mares above for King of Comedy due to the commonalities, and the ND and MP overlaps look nice, and with heavy ND mixes I always tout that you need one line of an outcross for balance. The Warning granddam line on Showcasing achieves that and makes him a nice match. Too many of both the Circus Maximuses and King of Comedys at the sale didn't have that balance.
Centaine in the dampage would look nice to me. Sprinting, robustness, to mould the ND and MP brilliance. Centaine was our second most successful non-Phalaris stallion in the pedigrees (to the 5th line) of our Group 1 winners last year, after Star Way. In terms of their relative presence in our broodmare band those two great Kiwi stallions aren't the most common. The biggest non-Phalaris stallions in the bloodlines of the comparable 2018 salestoppers at Karaka were from Round Table, Pieces of Eight and His Majesty lines. Yet Star Way was in seven of the 17 Group 1 pedigrees in NZ last year and Centaine was in six (Round Table had just one - Prise de Fer). Much of that is thanks to Proisir, but not exclusively (Mustang Valley has both, Imperatriz has Star Way).
I may have some Kiwi bias slipping in with the above or at least fond memories of Star Way and Centaine, but if we think Proisir is getting good as a stallion, I can't wait to see how he goes as a broodmare sire.

Thanks all. Yes, she was syndicated in AU. I’m still in, and I admit to having shed a tear when she crossed the line in the manner she did on the night (proud for Turf Fire - whom I bred /raced - such a long process) She’s a talent, and while Don Carlo won 8 and his first race as well, and Full sister Glinda Goodwitch broke down after the sires produce of her year, and even thou I’m getting carried away after a MDN at Cranbourne- she’s could be the best yet. It was a good margin for only a 1000m.
If you give me some licence, on a breeding front, I think those two back white socks go back to Nogara via turf fire - lots of multiples. She has them as well.

The first five dams of Poetic Champion are all chestnut, as are the second, third, and fourth damsires. The first damsire is out of a chestnut mare.
On the sires side the colour is from Super Seth's second dam Toast of the Coast (chestnut), whose parents are Rory's Jester (chestnut) and Solo Show (bay, but half of her great grandparents were chestnut).
From his yearling photo he looks to me like Rory's Jester more than anything, but at that age it's hard to tell.

Nerula, most media refer to Mr Zhang as a billionaire. This is the background they give on the Yulong website.

Lets hope he does better than a certain Mr Tinkler, who also made his fortune from coal mining, but subsequently lost it with reckless spending.

    Vale Stuart Hale
By  NZ Racing Desk  -  June 30, 2023 Popular bloodstock agent Stuart Hale has died after a battle with illness Photo: Trish Dunell The New Zealand thoroughbred industry is mourning the loss of one of its great characters with the passing of Stuart Hale on Friday, aged 74.
Tributes have flowed for the affable Cambridge-based bloodstock agent, who died after a battle with illness.
Hale purchased a number of top-class horses including Gr. 1 Bayer Classic (1600m) winner Russian Pearl, who raced successfully for Bruce and Stephen Marsh in New Zealand before joining the Tony Cruz stable in Hong Kong.
Hale paid $37,500 for Russian Pearl as a yearling for Hong Kong owner Gary Kam, with Hale retaining a small interest. The son of Soviet Star would go on to run second to Vengeance Of Rain in the Hong Kong Derby (2000m) before later winning the Stewards Cup (1600m).
Hale would go on to establish a successful long-term relationship with Cruz, purchasing a number of horses with the ‘Regency’ prefix, while continuing his long-standing friendship with Bruce Marsh, who later trained in Singapore.
“I had a great relationship with Stuey and he has been a dear friend for a long time. He has been one of the real characters of racing,” Marsh said.
“He was great for racing and good for the bloodstock business and he will be sadly missed.
“In reflection, Stuey buying Russian Pearl helped me go to Singapore. Gary Kam, the owner of Russian Pearl, shouted Stuey and I plus our wives (both named Kay) to the Hong Kong Derby.
“We called into Singapore on the way home where Laurie Laxon had mentioned there was a vacancy for a trainer. I was allocated boxes in Singapore straight away, which obviously turned out to be a great thing for my career, and it might not have happened if it wasn’t for Stuey and Russian Pearl.
“I knew Stuey from his days in the Wairarapa but Russian Pearl certainly brought us very close. He has been one of the most colourful people in the bloodstock business. He brought in some very good owners and we had a lot of good times together.”
Hale also raced Group Two winner and Group One placed Rios in partnership with Hong Kong businessman Andy Chan. The son of Hussonet, who later retired to stud at Waikato Stud where he was a useful stallion, was prepared by Hale’s good friend Murray Baker and son Bjorn.
Hale is also the breeder of a Melbourne Cup winner, having bred Blarney Kiss gelding Kensei, who won the 1987 edition of the great race for Les Bridge under a brilliant Larry Olsen ride.
In addition to Kensei, Hale also bred Gr.1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) winner Triumphal Queen.
A great entertainer, Hale would also host a comprehensive yearling inspection tour in the lead-up to the National Yearling Sales at Karaka which proved hugely popular with buyers and vendors alike.
A keen golfer, the flags at the Cambridge Golf Club were flying at half-mast on Friday in honour and memory of Hale.

Dopey reacted to Chris Wood in Cambridge Synthetic on a Saturday
This was the first time the transfer option was used , probably lots to be learned from it, but let’s not keep canning the all weather track.
You have a right to decide where and when you want to run your horse, Tauranga was not a viable option due to the rain and a track that was not going to be suitable to race on going by the weather forecast for Friday and Saturday.
The decision was made, well done to NZTR for making an early announcement, caterers, staff all sorts had to change their schedule to accomodate the change, even the weather changed, but Tauranga was still going to be bottomless, and maybe not fit for racing.
The meeting was held, a lot scratched without giving their horses the chance to see if they could handle it, you will never know if you don’t try them on it.
I for one think the right decision was made, and no I didn’t have a runner in the original Tauranga fields.
I find the programming an issue, so many maiden races each meeting which is great, but bugger all R 60/65 to take up the slack for the horses that have left maidens to progress to the meetings that are being held on a two week in between basis….no logic there!

I'd find Street Cry blood. PI's too rich unfortunately and Telperion isn't commercial, I would use Shocking who has five stakes horses from O'Reilly mares.

Coolmore sent a number of their best mares to Japan to visit champion sire Deep Impact before his passing in 2019 and the exercise has produced Epsom Oaks winner Snowfall, Newmarket 2000 Guineas winner Saxon Warrior, French Oaks winner Fancy Blue and now the best of them all an Epsom Derby winner in Auguste Rodin.

Dopey got a reaction from Memphis3 in Epsom Downs 2023 Derby: Sunday our time at 12:30pm No NZ TAB odds
    Thoughts from my NH mates:
Derby is a head scratcher. ARodin is fav still but that is because the books have laid him throughout the Winter and can’t extend their prices. Appleby’s Military Order ( a brother to Adayar, 2021 winner)won the trial at Lingfield showing he stays 12f. The Foxes won the Dante at York but has stamina doubts. Passenger was denied a run there and is shorter in the betting than The Foxes. He is by Ulysses who Stoute also ran in the Derby on his third outing finishing down the field and only proving how good he was at four. Supplemented byNiarchos for £85,000. Dettori rides Arrest w ho won his trial at Chester.
I can’t have the fav. He should be double figures at least and I still wouldn’t touch him. In addition Coolmore keep trying to get the Deep Impact bloodline to work over here and so far without success. The following are those for me who will stay the 12f, Military Order, Arrest, Waipiro, Artistic Star & Adelaide River. The latter has no chance. Artistic Star is an interesting runner. He is a Galileo out of a Fastnet Rock mare. Won his maiden over a mile on soft and a novice over 10f at Sandown, sure to improve for going up in trip but again only his third run.
