Impressive debut win at Cranbourne last week.

I think Dopey, you may have bred this filly? Congratulations. Full to Don Carlo, she has the same willingness to let rip but a more more length and scope.

Thanks all. Yes, she was syndicated in AU. I’m still in, and I admit to having shed a tear when she crossed the line in the manner she did on the night (proud for Turf Fire - whom I bred /raced - such a long process) She’s a talent, and while Don Carlo won 8 and his first race as well, and Full sister Glinda Goodwitch broke down after the sires produce of her year, and even thou I’m getting carried away after a MDN at Cranbourne- she’s could be the best yet. It was a good margin for only a 1000m.

If you give me some licence, on a breeding front, I think those two back white socks go back to Nogara via turf fire - lots of multiples. She has them as well.

  2. I’m not sure buyers would have targeted the Time Tests for the 2yold Karaka Million, so having [up to] three in the field is a good start by the sire… it’s early in the season.

win | place stakes are influential for the first season sires earnings as well…there are three in it - almanzor, time test, and satono Aladdin … good luck to all.

Dopey, I see one of the Burgundy fillies in the Guineas yesterday is out of a PI mare.

From what I can make out, he's just had the two to race from his mares, the other being that Shamexpress horse of Allan Sharrocks who won on debut.

Significantly both have duplications of Best In Show.

The reverse cross obviously is working - Shamus is reverse cross with O’Reilly through Shamexpresss over a Per Incanto mare…

Wow - Big news out of Australia

What would be the reason behind this? Were their Stallions well patronised?

Very nice farm, in great location. A progressive nz based farm could do well here.

USA line stallions have found it hard to get traction. Even arrowfield found it hard introducing the Japan based lines.

I was actually looking from a potential buyers POV. I really like Time Test (by Dubawi, strong female line, genuine horse, 4 Stakes Winners at 2 from that first UK crop).

Good luck with your SS filly. I hope she finishes the way her Dad did in the Caufield Guineas! What is the mares name?

    Cheers, Matt

Super Seth ex Turf Fire (by Oreilly)…late oct foal

In this case you are duplicating sadler’s wells through two daughters…two daughters of sadler’s wells = 2 X chromosomes (plus other genetics) of SW in the mix…as a stallion SW was one of the greatest off all time for classic horses… and a bit like Northern Dancer, can you have too much of him in a pedigree? (or aka lots of great genetics) ….

Don’t get too academic about it… perhaps look at the type you have in front of you and ask “ do I have an athletic type”? what have I thrown back to? I look at the colour and use that to guess (based on probability) where the unseen genetics have thrown too…it just increases your chances of that being SW genetics…

Others can add more about filly or colt implications

    Interesting…

that’s also what comes from PI OVER oreilly and tokay mares… etc.

…More expensive stallions were imported, especially from the 1990s on, but with no discernible improvement in results.

I’m not sure that’s true. Guess it depends on what your definition of results is…let’s think improving long term quality of the breed …Notwithstanding the dates imported for use stallions like Last tycoon (O’Reilly), High Chaparral, Defensive play (great broodmare influence) etc have left a lasting influence … for decades…in producing stakes horses.

I'm not at liberty to peruse some of the magnificent training establishments in various jurisdictions...however, from my humble stance, facilities and staff are two pragmatic reasons why the lads are deprived of their tackle.

I recall Dave Kerr [ and that was years ago ]  based at Riccarton in club stabling, telling me that the property was just not suitable for colts.  I'm pretty sure that Clansman was entire, but he was a rarity for Dave.  He liked them, but felt that the design of the facility made it very hard to keep colts settled and contented.

I went to Rogie's property many years ago, to attend a friend's birthday, and noticed there that the colts were housed in a separate barn from fillies.  Sensible, I thought.

Not possible in most of the yards I've seen locally, and only a very placid boy would find himself left intact.

I've had colts when based elsewhere, but couldn't have one now.

As far as that goes, I haven't been entrusted with a pedigree that would lend itself to stud future for a very long time...

You are correct. I don’t remember one colt while I was with Dave and Jan… Clansman, and Gaffa etc we’re before my time….

I think Roggigiani is a reasonable horse, but to chuck him in a Group 1 at the weekend was a bit reckless and hopeful. Tardis will go well tonight but to think Time Test will have a Group 1 horse in the NH is a big call. We’re getting to the pointy end of the NH season and I imagine if he can pick up a good Gr 2 winner or Gr1 placing he is going extra good. They will get better next year.

I have a very athletic TT filly and looking forward to what may prevail in the Summer here, but she looks as though she has precocity as an asset..

    Cheers
