Shane I agree. Good for the purchaser but not so good for those who initially invested in the horse when syndicated. I note that the horse was originally owned by Te Akau Fillies breeding syndicate, so why sell if the syndicate was to breed??.

Maybe he is not the Minister of sales or thoroughbred racing but, his responsibility as Racing minister starts with the horses being bred, sold and finally raced. If the sales can not achieve an adequate return for the breeders then few horses would be bred therefore fairly quickly ending in the demise of thoroughbred racing in NZ.

I have to agree with short stuff on this one………

Hi Ho - there have been 53 deaths in NZ and whilst they may have had Covid, they HAVE NOT died from Covid. Covid may have accelerated their death but it was not caused by Covid. They had more severe symptons, which caused them to die. As an example, the UK results are - Of the 50,335 deaths that occurred in March to June 2020 involving COVID-19 in England and Wales, 45,859 (91.1%) had at least one pre-existing condition, while 4,476 (8.9%) had none. COVID-19 deaths where there was no pre-existing condition between March and June 2020 are included below, this can be found on table 5. No pre-existing condition: England and Wales – 4476 No pre-existing condition: England – 4169 No pre-existing condition: Wales – 294 So whereas the media are all saying 50,000 deaths in the UK ONLY 4,476 have been the result of contracting the virus. Why does the media have to be so dishonest? -
Was there no power connected to the outside set of stalls in the last at Trentham? Two horses locked in the gates at the start. If no power, who is responsible for the connection?

What I have not been able to understand is how are they measuring "eligible population"? With so many overstayers, people who are not registered within the health system, etc what is the base for the % to be calculated?

Racing costs and Prize money and common sense.
Fredd002 replied to PRea's topic in Thoroughbred Cafe
PRea, it is a fair cost to get your horse from Bathurst to race in Victoria. I have one in training at Caulfield which costs $132.00 per day plus GST (10%). But I agree, the only reason you would race a horse in NZ is so you can see it race (outside lockdown), because the prize money on offer is so poor. Minimum prizemoney in country NSW is now $24,000 so even racing on the country tracks around Bathurst will give you a significantly greater return than that in NZ -
I thought maybe someone would have offered the names of the jockeys concerned, as races limited to 8 starters each race, which would indicate 8 jockeys affected by the current boundary lockdowns. Who are they?

We're heartbroken to announce that Sir Dragonet has broken down during a piece of work at Moonee Valley this morning and was euthanised on course. So sad to lose such a great horse who was being prepared for a tilt at the Cox Plate again. Condolences to the owners and trainers

As from midnight tonight, the Waipa District is included in the extenion of the Level 3 boundaries as a result of a positive out of Karapiro, until Monday night. As Cambridge is in the Waipa district, will this will have a dramatic effect on the number of starters at Matamata for Saturday?
