The road to the Plate Final
Commonsensical - worst name for a scorer to input :) - has had an interesting path to the final.  Didn't enter initially, submitted picks as a reserve in the early pool rounds, inherited a team in Round 4 from someone who was 0-3 and lost interest, won their only pool play contest in round 4, and didn't submit picks in round 5.  And still didn't finish bottom of the group.  Has put up some very big scores (including a weekly high score) but also a very low score in the quarters.  Overall form would suggest the low score was an anomaly.
Scooby - was one race away from topping a very tight Pool E, but a last race winner from SS consigned Scooby to 4th place and a spot in the Plate where he has flown under the radar but scored consistently well.
Sorry Scooby I've got you s second favourite.

L.J.Shannon reacted to Tony in Why is RACE Victimizing Gary Vile?
I don't understand why these prominent Trainers would pledge support to Gary Vile. Every one of them know what sort of person he is.
If the reason for this eviction from Awapuni is due to Gary Vile's behavior then he hasn't leant his lesson going by his public performance at a recent CD race meeting.
He gave a good toweling down to a young jockey who is unashamedly Gay. This young jockey had been riding trackwork for Gary Vile but decided that he wasn't happy in that stable environment so withdrew his services. This made Mr Vile very unhappy and in front of witness's he has abused this jockey calling him a "Faggot". This is totally unacceptable behaviour. No complaint was laid as most young people in the industry know it is likely to be swept under the carpet. Just like an incident 4 years ago. It was early November, 8.45am when Jumps Jockey Gary Walsh walked in to the Awapuni Tea hut and asks Mr Vile for the money owed to him for several weeks for Trackwork . Gary Walsh was sporting a broken shoulder from a recent raceday fall. Mr Vile explodes and grabs Gary Walsh by the neck throwing him against the wall. Fortunately  another senior Awapuni Trainer was able to get Mr Vile off of Gary Walsh. This was a cowardly attack on a defenseless man. The then CD RIU person Simon Irvine was well aware of this incident but did nothing at all about it. Again swept under the carpet.
If we want decent young people coming in to our industry they need to know they are going to be protected from Bullies and Thugs
These prominent Trainers should be pledging their support to RACE who should be commended on not blowing this eviction up any more than it needs to be.
I am astonished that these prominent Trainers have willing put their names up and are prepared to take the action noted in the CD Trainers Resolution.

I have said it numerous times - "let the caretakers do their job and produce safe tracks "  instead of being dictated too by head office as to what track surface they want.

Unfortunately couldn't make it to the Woodville races today , Any cafers go to the races today , would love to know what the track was like considering we had a good deluge of rain overnight at least an inch of solid rain . Did catch last race as I had a small investment on the winner and noticed that they were still keeping reasonably close to the rail.

The RIB rep. and regional track manager had been advised by some (moron in an office that lacks accountability but is allowed to make decisions that affect the earning ability of the participants )  of an impending HUGE THUNDERSTORM!!!!  that was due to hit Woodville that afternoon . Will it NEVER turned up!  . The Track would have been a very good winter soft/heavy track . The track has a great sole of grass on it , and with a deep grass root structure it will hold together very well compared to a lot of the over irrigated tracks that have the very shallow root structure causing those tracks to chop out quite badly.
Maybe the City Boys in head office are just looking for an extra reason to put another nail in coffin of a country club

"nothing to aspire to".............very interesting We're Doomed cos I've been giving that subject some thought in the last couple of days
and now that Leggy has , quite correctly, told us numerous times that Synthetics are no place for mudders and that I've modified my views that Synthetics were for D and E Grade summer horses but I now include some C graders in that too
then there needs to be some sort of a Grand Final series.....something which showcases the Synthetics because next season there will be 3 tracks in action probably for about 18 weeks
and I'm thinking that during the Summer the astute trainers who have horses who are struggling a bit will be reserved to the Synthetics to effectively give that horse a 2nd chance ( which is a hell of a lot better than giving it a 10 week spell and trying it again next season ....or even retiring it)
the good thing about that is that it more horses come back into training for the winter.......stables have more horses providing  more employment for stablehands / track riders etc.
so as some sort of Grand Final and to get much more value than the MAAT concept I propose some sort of a concept like the .....
Breeders Cup weekend - say the 3rd weekend in August - stand alone run over the Saturday and Sunday
    4 categories for horses on 1 May within the 45 - 54, 55 - 60, 61 - 65, 66 - 70 at distances of 1200, 1500, 2000 or whatever the relevant distance at the relevant track
all races @ $60,000 or maybe 50, 000 and generous travel payments for the horses travelling from the other 2 venues
and that the Venue rotates between each of the 3 venues on alternate years
Invent another two races and you have 14 races, 7 on the Saturday and 7 on the Sunday
some sort of a points system....Qualifying Series....you know how it works
then it's over to the Host Club to turn it into a Big Day......Cambridge could have Studs invite Clients to corporate hospitality, NZTBA have a tent ( just a few weeks before the Breeding Season), Awapuni and Riccarton have hospitality boxes / facilities anyway
anyway I'll leave the finer details to the Tim / Butch subcommittee - they'll be able to tidy up the loose ends and turn  it into a Showcase Weekend at a time of the year when it's a bit bleak and miserable.

The first and third days are scheduled to be run, all races, on the main course proper
The second days flat races are on the poytrack, jumps races during the week, if run, will be on the grass.
If races were today it would be on a very heavy, sodden course proper, we had a heap of rain again last night. It's sunny but cold here now, no drying ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
A bit of rain predicted Tuesday, temperatures predicted 14 to 16 all week so should improve. Then the rain comes again and again.
Will not be racing for the faint of heart, will be very wet on the main track and as you have noticed it will cut out very quickly

Why not let the track managers do their job and stop dictating to them what needs to be done. They know their job unlike the suits doing the dictating.
If they fail they are gone....same should be said for the ones making the the decisions from above ( but they dont fail apparently )
