“Even so, racing somehow needs to get back to having free-to-air TV coverage which is stuck on Sky out of sight of many. Getting publicity for racing these days is a tough gig with mainstream media virtually ignoring it and the only recourse for punters is to go online.”
    Well said.
Drove to the Ipswich races yesterday listening to Radio TAB- didn’t that bring back some memories of the times in NZ when you could do that.

In my opinion it's great to see Greg O'Connor back. Easy on the ear, knowledgeable, clear and concise, professional, doesn't speed talk or stammer like Rodley when interviewing, or pull goofy false smiles like Sweeny, a natural in front of the camera.

Good to see a sire represented in the winners circle at least a decade since his successful career peaked. Especially in the first week of 2024. the winner Take after me at 13 proved age no barrier as the career started 10 years ago and has won over 250000 dollars.!!The sire Holmes Hanover was well known and popular through the early 2000s but now has only had 1 winner a season for the last8 years. maybe a new beginning LoL.HH was very popular at his peak and proved one of our great sires esp as he carried a lot of the great blood of Albatross/tar heel and adios.... and is in many top pedigrees. Good as a foundation for the new.  sires to mate with good luck to owners of TAM...

I was just looking through TVNZ to see what sport is on and I notice there is a over 6 hour replay of Everest day which obviously suggest it was screened somewhere, either online or maybe on a tvnz free channel, does anybody know, as I don't know maybe no one else did.

Slim Dusty reacted to MissJools in Trackside - Channel 64 today
TVNZ gets people who don't know one end of the Horse from the other, to host its Melbourne Cup coverage, especially toni street.  She thinks she knows what she's talking about when it comes to Horses and Racing, but she knows absloutely nothing about them!!!  A few years ago on her breakfast radio show, she thought there was a breed of Horse called a Bronco.

It would be nice however for the TAB to put it on the UHF system for non - sky customers . They had Cup Day ( Harness) on channel 200 for the big races. We could have watched both the Hastings  main race and the Everest. Gather Melbourne Cup will be on one of the main channels but getting the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup for an hours coverage would be good.

yes gruff there are some bloody good people that contribute here, but there are also some lowlife backstabbers too...and they know who they are....that simply take advantage of what I provide and seem to have little or no shame.

That's a disappointing read Scooby. I have no idea what's going on/what's being said/where it's being said, but most of us would miss this site hugely if it were to cease, that's for sure.

Why was this Group One celebration ever scheduled for SHED 10  in Auckland ?
All the major players and great people were at Hastings yesterday.
    Day 0ne of their carnival.
And the dinner could have been there to help the region .
Unbelievable that people would have to arrange flights back to Auckland.

And why is it Not being broadcast live on a ch 62 / 63
like we used to see. ?

You can watch for free on the TAB website or the website of each code (LoveRacing, HRNZ, GRNZ). A hand-me-down laptop from the grandkids plugged into the TV will see you right.
But it will be interesting to see what Entain do with broadcasting, for sure.

Slim Dusty reacted to High Sparrow in Taiki Yanagida & Megan Taylor
Couldn't agree more Zak. On many occasions I've heard complaints from owners, punters and trainers (usually speaking from their wallets) about a meeting being put off after the jockeys have  decided the track is too dangerous to ride on. Many of those complaining may never have been on a horse in their lives, let alone ridden one when the horse's legs are skidding out from under them at speed. It takes real courage and dedication to be a jockey and very few reach the top, though many have that dream and work hard at it throughout their careers. They are asked to ride at unnatural weights and many have to waste hard to make them.  Jockeys are, pound-for-pound, among the strongest and fittest athletes on the planet.  I have the deepest of admiration for them all.  I've been privileged to know a good many jockeys in my life and when any of them are seriously injured or are tragically killed in an accident, I am greatly saddened because, like me, they love their racing. I think the industry owes Taiki and Megan a memorial race each, as you suggest.

TAB should be onto TVNZ about getting racing onto free to view , as Spark have now worked out now one wants to watch rugby ,cricket , football , formula 1 or any other sport on a phone , or stump up all the extra cost of getting it onto they're TV .
Many racing people have said the loss of free radio and TV coverage has harmed our sport .

Slim Dusty reacted to Barry Lichter in Stop Auckland Trotting Club from demolishing NZ Trotting Hall Of Fame at Alexandra Park
The committee of the New Zealand Trotting Hall of Fame seeks your support in stopping the Auckland Trotting Club from bulldozing the Noel Taylor New Zealand Trotting Hall Of Fame museum at Alexandra Park and turning it into a car park.
Every club in the country, and people around New Zealand and Australia, contributed money and memorabilia to set up the museum and for the ATC to think it can obliterate such an iconic collection of harness racing history beggars belief.

I think we need to sort out radio coverage for all seven days before freeview unless it is streamed from TV to reduce costs.
