  1. Some cynical buggers on here…… We all know Debbie Kepitis, along with the Tighe and Treweeke families, owned Winx and are now $27m better off because of it. The attachment to the mare is obvious, and she was quoted as saying they did not intend to bid on the filly, but in recent weeks the family had realised how strong that attachment was, and the likelihood of her going overseas prompted the change of mind. I think it is brilliant she put her hand up to keep her in Australia. Winx had already lost her first foal by I am Invincible which almost cost her life, and there was no guarantee she would have another one. ( Good news today that she is in foal to Snitzel ) Woppit Bloodstock and Chris Waller will handle her as they did Winx. Whether she attains heights anywhere near Mum, time will tell, but even so the opportunity to carry on the bloodline down the track was no doubt another reason to keep her in Australia. Good on them.Wish them all the best whichever way it goes.

  2. Cup Day Tradition - ROOTED World Famous Jumps race over the HILL - ROOTED General state of Racing - ROOTED $55m Track - NOT ROOTED (apparently) Seems the Muppets can root everything except what they needed to .... Apparently this shot is from the meeting when they decided to send the Track developers home early

  4. Absolutely loved this! Not sure if it got any mainstream News coverage but it should have. Interesting all the comments around poor judgement from other riders. This was a 'freak' effort so pretty hard to point blame at the other riders in my opinion. Let's face it - we are all talking about it because of it's abnormality. 99 times out of 100 such a lead results in the horse walking over the line, so for POJ to maintain the strong gallop to the line was incredible. The only ride I would comment on is the brilliance of Declan Bates - in this instance his nickname 'Master' is fitting, rather than the funny connotations of it. Seemed to let her do her own thing, gave her a little rest before the rise and then they were history. One thing I do wonder is he she had wobbled up the straight, and finished out of the money, if Maher would have had a 'face like a half sucked Throatie' like he did with the Jimmysastar ride One of the great G1 wins of all time and we should celebrate the positive side of it

  5. The 2.02 time is misleading. Look at the splits at the top of the replay and the first 200 is 15.14 despite her coming out of the gates like a bull!! Then she racks off mid 11s. I think the distance was circa 2040 (I have no idea why - the rail was out on the bend but that doesn't explain 40m). In summary; - This was an exceptional performance against quality opposition. Nothing the other jocks could have done. The race was over by the 1000! - In October Jenni was 3 wins from 22 starts. Now she's racked up 4 G1s and produced an amazing performance. I'd love to know the back story - on her third trainer and didn't race for 10mths at one point. - What amazing viewing! I backed a loser and was screaming for Jenni at the 300. Poetry in motion

Agree Blue The biggest issue is getting folk on course, without BGP the numbers would be thin Our DNA not like Aussies at all, even the young ones over their flock to the races Our stupid attempt to “corporatise” racing was a monstrous fail and those that left, like me, ain’t returning …. Big big issues ahead

  17. They got so much from selling the hill why in the hell did they not do it 100% correctly...the industry MUST have this as its show piece not a laughing stock.
    5 points
  18. And why will they not be transparent and say exactly what the issues are and exactly what has been done to remedy them instead of all this waffling and politically correct PC bullshit...all just covering their arses, mark my words.

  19. No mate I mentioned this elsewhere and was told by a trainer I am just so anti the Ellerslie track ...that could not be further from the truth as we as an industry need this to succeed..it is after all the flagship....but hey lets all just keep quiet not speak out as we are the negative ones...and let the mediocre track and the people who spent the 55M on it take all the plaudits for giving us a track that we all just have to wait for it to "bed in" maybe a year or so...if this is the industry we have become where there is no accountability and everyone is happy with the shit show as it is well then no matter how much $$$$ Entain pour down the hole things will never get any better.

  22. Well done Veandercross , good luck next week . Thanks to my teammates , Memphis , Pogo and Little Tramp , you guys have been great to compete alongside and I'm just sorry that I didn't hold my end up better , eapecially today . To John , massive thanks for your efforts running this comp , has been great fun , most of the time , and to Scooby for putting up the prizes . I think most would agree that we weren't competing for the prizes but the fun and glory , been great to be part of and hope it happens again . Cheers .

Had a look back to see how Veandercross went against McGinty in the round-robin. we were pretty well trailing them the whole way 3-2 and a couple of hundred $$ behind in the aggregrate, but then I got a BB quinella in the last race for over $1k collect and we won it 5-1.... would be nice to do that again today but not too hopeful, but in saying that I have saved a BB for the last race at Morphettville and have included one of the same horses from that big collect. Up against Pogo today so he's likely to pull out a big roughie somewhere...again. Good luck to everyone still alive in the comp and thanks John and Leigh...

On supposedly a major night for Harness Racing fu.....n greyhounds and their promotion teams Stothard,Rosanoski and Morris have taken over. Well how do the Harness fans fight back. Simple don't bet on dogs thereby your not supporting the budgets. Will be sky sport rugby for me tonight and I'll watch the Harness on Hrnz later on. Sad state of affairs for horse lovers! 10 to 5 and not even the Whale has surfaced. Probably some bugger dropped some plastic in the ocean and it's got into his blowhole.

    Imperatriz Retired.

Quite the valedictory from Ellis and Te Akau---interestingly not a mention of the trainer who looked after her so well and produced terrific winning results in the mare's formative racing years. That would be Jamie Richards if anybody else has the same TA amnesia.

  26. I've been offering solutions for 20 years but the powers that be have shown no inclination to implement any of them.. In a sentence, fix the tracks, fix the handicapping system, fix the programming and aim to make thoroughbred racing self-sustainable again as it was then.

  27. Let's have a close look at who got paid. As many knew previously the NZ climate and topographical nature of this course is unique. The 'expert's thought they had the answer but it was always going to be an experiment at some level, Shane Mac has faith this track can be 'right' next year but the 55 million in without an early return is unacceptable given what was promised ....it hasn't really been tested yet what's going to happen in Winter ...55 million could of had Avondale spic and span with a track that can handle anything

  29. I have to hope that Entain realise - if they haven't already - what a lame duck they are supporting. Increased funding is great for we stakeholders, we are lucky to have the chance to run for real money...but this continued ineptitude has to be pulled into line.

  32. All the money in the world poured into stakes do not cover up the major cracks we have in this industry . But it seems all you ever hear from the big names within the industry is how great things are and it's a great time to be involved . Why is it no one , and I mean no one , within the hierarchy or one of the big players have the character to come out and start being honest , because until that starts nothing is ever going to be solved . You know giving critique doesn't have to be a negative . It's fantastic the direction stakes are going but it breaks my heart that these real issues within our sport as Scooby says , just dealt with bullshit and waffle . No one ever says right enough is enough , we are going to deal with these issues once and for all . Or as I suspect , is everybody just too busy counting their dollars and don't want to rock the boat . Please someone stand up and show some leadership , no not some , how about true leadership .

  36. I see Hastings isn't going to be ready for the 27th April meeting now , hence another reshuffle of CD meetings . Seriously you couldn't make up the shambles with our tracks over the last 2 seasons in particular . If someone had said 5 years ago this was going to happen with all our major tracks even the most skeptical among us would have scoffed . Just as well they didn't get their way and close all the tracks they wanted to quickly , I think , and I could be wrong , but I think Te Rapa is the only track that hasn't had a meeting canned for an unsafe surface . That alone speaks volumes about the state of our racing . Ellerslie , Trentham and Riccarton , our supposed flagship tracks are currently letting the industry down in a major way , along with Hastings and Awapuni , New Plymouth and to a lesser extent Otaki , the CD has an endemic problem all of their own . Rudderless doesn't even start to describe the leadership . And here's a thought to finish with , what if Entain hadn't come along ??????

    Gorky Park

HI there, I just want to follow up on this thread. Gorky Park has now moved to the Manawatu, to reside at Dalacine Farm permanently. I am in retirement and wish to bred him to my small team of mares for his 21 Birthday. The aim is to race the resultant progeny with the hope of emulating another Gorbachev in adding to his stakes winning total. I feel he is a much-underrated stallion with a great pedigree and proven breeding and racing results. Yes he missed the commercial pathway as many other stallions have done. It's a fraught game and only very few reach the pinnacle of success. But under current new NZ racing, the little boys have another chance of worthwhile success and play at a level they can support. Gorky Park looks great, not an old horse at all, He's has shown he's still very keen to meet the girls, something he hasn't done since 2018. He will be seeing mares from Zabeel Stravinsky Rip van Winkle and High Chaparral I have put a token $1k service fee on him. No live foal guarantee, just a free return mating due to his age and unknown fertility status

    greyhound racings future

It makes me angry to read, listen to comments on greyhound racing, even some of you people on this thread. The trainers absolutely love their dogs, they are incredibly well fed and looked after, they just love getting to the track and racing, just watch them get excited before they race. Most of the people who comment negatively have never been to a greyhound race, or seen one in the flesh either during their racing career or afterwards as a loving family pet. I have emailed the PM and despite his office assuring me they would get back to me after their “settling in period “ they have so far failed to front. Re the drugs side of things I am led to believe it is recreational drugs ie cannabis and P , not given to the animals but contaminated by halfwits who appear in all walks of our current society in NZ.

  44. Thanks Shane, never hidden on this site and like to try and see the positive side. Things aren’t 100% obviously, but don’t get carried away, see what the powers to be come up with. They might be just as frustrated as what you people are…. The Strathayr team are on their way, they won’t walk away from their responsibilities, sure things will work out and as you say Shane, it will be the best surface in the Country. Amazing how people hide behind a barrier, got something to say, put your name to it…..

They hocked off the family silver ( the legendary hill) to help pay for this track "upgrade". Where is the accountabilty? Will they bring in a PR Firm to assuage the industry participants?
