  3. It's better to regret selling than regret not selling. Seven figures for a gelding when you own the dam and most of the siblings is an easy sell. Even if (IF) he comes out and wins the Caulfield Guineas and the Kiwi next year you'd still struggle to be mad that you sold.

  4. The thread refers to a 'promising horse'. A second and a win from two races doesn't neccessarily suggest anything more than promising. $1m in the hand speaks volumes.

  5. The Enigma code was decided at our Horlicks Team Retreat at Tauherenikau race Course. Jim, Aaron and Your good self will have to continue to deny any such Race Cafe meeting of team Horlicks , ever took place. Our Horlicks Team game strategy is working well. Aaron led early with points. Alf selected a bolter, as planned, in round 10. Jim our Gub man wonder , consistently pots the points. I Can not see the Veandercross team with 30 points and 21 K having the skills to beat us on Saturday ! So there you have it !!

  8. So 10 weeks in and this is where we all sit. The average team collect to date is $20,710.60 (by my basic maths), so 7 teams are above the average, 5 teams below. It's impossible to work out the exact total-spend due to some people taking the $2 quinella option and others not, but without the quinellas we've spent a total of $5,600 each, $22,400 per team, a grand total of $268,800 imaginary dollars over 10 weeks. Only Team McGinty has so far recovered an amount greater than that of their team-total spend. Showing just how close the top 6 teams are, Team Bonecrusher sits number 1 on the overall points table but in $$$$ earned they only rank number 5. There is only $373.80 between the second highest tally and the sixth highest tally - the McGinty greed sees them clear on the dollars-earned table

Even though he hasn't called for years, he was great today at Palmy. Head and Shoulders above Rosanowski, so come on get him back fulltime and get rid of Rosanowski as a commentator.

  16. Sat in that stand many a time in the 60's, 70's and 80's--even when it provided seating for the Jimmy Thunder fight in 1987. Great vibe as was always the case at most race meetings "back in the day".

  20. No pressure PS. They're a tough bunch team Horlicks. Phil and Aaron near the top of individual aggregates and both Rev and Gubellini very race hardened. Question is, will Rough Habit's relatively low aggregate come back to bite them in the final wash-up? Good aggregate worth half a point in a tie situation. Good luck mate, it's going to be a fun day. I'll be trying to post Live points table updates after each race to add to the drama

  26. I love the story, yes a big fan, hope he races well in the World Cup. I didn't know much about Kazakhstan so did some research. In Kazakhstan, horses hold a special place in the hearts of the people. Let’s explore their deep connection with these magnificent animals: Domestication: The Kazakhs are modern-day descendants of the ancient steppe nomads who domesticated horses 6,000 years ago. These herdsmen have a rich heritage tied to these noble creatures. Horse Meat: Horse meat is a staple in the Kazakh diet. Dishes like beshbarmak (boiled horse meat served on noodles) and kazy (horse sausage) are enjoyed during celebrations and to honor guests

  34. Sat in there MANY a time myself. NOT in 1943 however. Or even 1953, 1963, or even 1973. But late 70's through the 80's, 90's and early noughties, but rarely since then and several years now since I set foot in the place at all.

  38. And best of luck to you and team as well PS - you're right, there could be some very interesting 'hail mary tactics' at play. Boom or bust for some perhaps. Team Horlicks certainly looking vulnerable in 6th but that 2 point buffer might be enough to hold out (is 30 the magic number?) We've been reasonably consistent most of the way and have been tipped out of some points by mere cents at times, and for memory have been 'close but no cigar' to bonus points, never actually getting across the line. I think Johns formula is a real winner, which is being borne out in how the table looks after so many rounds. If I manage to get the 'point' this weekend it will be something of a bittersweet victory, as it was against my mate Pardon My Dust last week. A few of my old faves are in comp races this weekend so will be relying on them to have their best feet forward Again, best of luck mate and I'll be watching your fortunes with keen interest on Saturday.

    Womens Sport, NZ.

England are probably a bit disappointed with their collapse in game 3, it breathed fresh life and false reality into our lot. Interestingly one player from NZ after match said game 4 was closer than scoreboard suggested, it's just chasing a big score and losing so many wickets in a hurry, .........really.

  41. Your week to Carry the hopes of a swag of teams that are on 25 points John. The Finals hopes of a nation depend on you mate !! so eat up and drink well lol. You and your Veandercross mates need to slap up a 4-zip win on the Horlicks battlers ( who are currently on 27 pts) so that Rough Habit , Sunline or Mufhasa can gallop on by them to secure the Finals berth . Suggestions >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Just get my old mate Alf going up and down on the one spot, Kloppite to turn the 'Rev's ignition off so he doesn't rev up many winners, Pondy to shoot some bullseyes as Aaron is out of arrows surely by now? and Howie sure to have an Ace or 2 up his sleeve instead of jokers to see off his Italian oppo. Mufhasa scored a six point Haul $4000 bucks last week so am sure they will feel gassed and pretty flat after that ? , and need a spell.. Roughie galloping on past into the Final's instead seems to be on the cards lol .. So come on Veandercross !!! no relying on Shane Dye to get you home this week.

  42. You can't turn the clock back and undo what's done but you can learn for the future , sooner or later this will happen again , let's wait and see what conclusions this commission comes to .

  43. Can do. But very much an individual matter, horses are not peas in a pod. Some may not be able to perform at their best above a certain impost, others don't seem to be fazed at all. There's no doubt that the weights allocated and carried decades ago did matter...but that's when handicaps were, well, handicaps.

    PICK 6 ….PLACE 6

In North America, the big tracks like Mohawk and Meadowlands all have at least two Jackpot betting options at each meeting, often with 50c or even 20c per combination bet, their punters love them, and the higher the jackpot goes the more money follows. Lotto now has $4m starting Jackpot, they are hoovering up the cash, if the Jackpot is struck on a Saturday, it only takes 18 days for the Jackpot to reach $10m, or 17 if struck on a Wednesday. Punters want to win life changing amounts of cash, particularly when times are tough, if racing does not provide that option, it loses.
