    Entain upgrade

Racing hub has results and also on your today's racing page you will see a box after tomorrow Tuesday Futures, extras etc etc, that also includes the tote betting pools. I've also been looking for tomorrow's results but haven't found them yet, been looking for years, no luck there

  2. That's probably why Kapati will race same day as Marlborough next January, sorry looks like someone's got their wires crossed somewhere. Maybe the powers that be could have got smarter with that one.

  8. Congratulations. So well done. Thank you. I can no longer find any reference to the injured jockeys' fund. It appears to have been replaced by the General Trust Fund, which provides grants to all injured licence holders including trainers and stable hands. I can contact NZTR to see if it accepts donations. As an alternative, how about we make the donation to the Rohan Muhoo Trust? https://racing.riccartonpark.nz/news/fundraising-rohan-mudhoo The account number is in the above article if that is ok with you.

Incredible that there isn't a single person in NZ qualified for the role. Probably indicative of poor succession planning.

  10. There has been plenty of comment made already about the peculiar decision to add so many extra race meetings from August this year at the 3 North Island venues where the horse shortage is critical and the relative punter interest is relatively low.A like for like meeting in the North Island will invariably deliver turnover and return to industry 10 to 20% less than one in the South Island. If anyone doubts these metrics they are welcome to compare for example similar non-feature race days at Addington vs Alexandra Park, Cambridge vs Southland, Manawatu vs Timaru or Oamaru. CeeMeNow has done good ongoing analysis on this issue in other threads using the raceday performance information which HRNZ to their credit continue to provide on their website. So now that HRNZ have supported Entain in adding all these meetings to our poorest venues for returns to the industry there are two obvious actions to expect them to address in their strategy revision this month: 1. Will they rebalance their stakes subsidy policies to ensure the venues that generate the worst local and export turnover/ gross betting revenue are no longer subsidised at current levels by the rest of the industry which is the only way they are able to pay currently scheduled similar stakes nationwide? The most obvious example of this is Manawatu, where every race in their 12 meetings in 2023/24 required a c.$7500 subsidy from HRNZ over and above the income earned from betting on each race. On what possible basis is that either fair or good business sense? A similar meeting at Timaru or Oamaru required a subsidy of only c. $2,000 per race over the same period, so surely going forwards HRNZ should be benchmarking like for like clubs and racedays and aligning subsidies accordingly. On that basis alone they would fairly redirect several million dollars each season to the region and races where the revenue has been generated, Canterbury. 2. Assuming this first issue is dealt with by HRNZ, surely the next step is to realign the hadicapping rules so that in particular the rating points penalties applied to race wins make reference to the stake won given there would (and should) be a substantial differential in the stakes paid at Manawatu vs Timaru as an example. It's clearly fair and reasonable to expect Manawatu meetings to carry lower penalties for race winners when they would pay stakes a third to a half less than a venue in South Canterbury/ North Otago as an example. If Addington is willing to sacrifice turnover and betting returns in the short term to support the new dual meetings initiative with Alexandra Park on Friday night we can only hope they also are not required to further cross subsidise the northern venue whilst this new initiative is trialled. The current relative difference would already justify Addington and thus Canterbury owners and trainers having at least $3000 per race redirected to their stakes from those at Alexandra Park. But right now that may be the lesser issue. It's more critical for HRNZ supported by Addington to fix the enormous imbalance nationally in funding of the R55 and below races between the North Island and South Island (excluding Southland), and then re-align the handicapping points penalty system accordingly. The owners attending the annual event at Addington this Friday would lilely be a more positive bunch if they knew HRNZ was committed to sorting this out and paying them the stakes money that both their investment and the support of punters nationwide justifies.

  13. What? That's what they did isn't it? Made it worse. A switch to the Gold Coast Poly Track, which has been the go-to back-up for Gold Coast racing since the flaws in the grass surface were so blatantly, and sadly, exposed in a sandstorm of excessive sand kickback at The Jewel race meeting back on March 9 was never an option for a feature race-day. Having conducted planned drainage works and sand grooving immediately following The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions in January

  17. To me you want a calender that encourages South Island horses to travel North, Blenheim and Nelson 2 day meet) followed the next week by a 2 day meeting at Manawatu. To me an owner and trainer would be enticed for traveling for 4 races and a combined stake of excess of 40k. It would possibly also entice Manawatu trainers to Blenhiem and Nelson giving a better incentive to own a harness horse in the Central Districts.

  18. Leggy I made the decision to donate the $50.00 to the Rohan Mudhoo trust. Not so long ago I had a horse at Mike McCann’s and Rohan rode her in her work and at the trials etc and is absolutely deserving of support at this time. Incidentally I had earlier made a small donation so this is a little top up. Good suggestion.

I actually didn't think it was too bad Palliser. We regularly got pre race interviews and even we had to cut to an Australian race they at least recorded it and played as soon as that particular race was finished. Also our people are on track which is what everyone is wanting, ok it's not every meeting but both Saturday meetings have been a thing of the past until the last couple of weeks.

  23. For our industry to survive against the headwinds it faces, including the anti racing brigade, we must maintain and encourage horse ownership and interest in harness racing the length of New Zealand, not just Canterbury. This means there must be reasonable stake equity throughout the country, as ownership is expensive (and more so in the North). Slashing NI stakes is not the answer to the nationwide decline in horse numbers. As it is, we upper North Island owners usually miss out on many supposedly nationwide series finals and Group races at Addington because of the risks and costs involved in taking an eligible horse on the long trek south. Last night's Country Cup final is the most recent example. As JL said, the only way forward is for Entain/HRNZ/ clubs to work as one.

  24. Woodville does not have a figure 8 steeple course - it uses removable steeple fences on the course proper. So why can Trentham not use the same removable steeple fences on their course proper outside instead of running on the center figure 8?

  26. Just as well they have decided to reverse their decision and keep Woodville for another few years, or at least until until the next venue review, otherwise they would really be in the shit. As for putting more sand on Ellerslie, look what has just happened at the new Gold Coast course. It all beggars belief.
