Obviously the watering system they have got is one they got off Noah which probably not designed to water to that needs of today. Notice how much they had put on compared to previous times would be up to twice as much daily amount so obviously not using a moisture meter for more accurate application rates. Funny enough the fact that the jockeys who are foremost to the safety of the track head out wider to find the firmer ground so why are we watering tracks to change the rating of the track instead of producing a Good 3 track for race day a firm track with moisture in it.

Labour Party maths Crusty. Just an illusion. I'm more worried about Brian--we could have lost him. Fancy losing 7kg in a week in the pokey. Would have disappeared into the ether in a few more weeks--the ultimate freedom ! Might be a good idea to throw Wiles, Woods, Verral , Robertson, Mahuta and any others in that chunky cohort into Mt Eden for a few weeks for their own safety.

So you are suggesting time penalties for any contact over the threshold, maybe in increments of 0.01 on top of other relevant fines and penalties. Sounds fair

Love Des Coppins. No mention of the track this week when he defended it last week and the inside was not off. Might be time to move on Desmond!

  8. I did meet the Addington race caller in Sydney previously, when he was on holiday with his partner at the time Ellie Barron It is obvious now his new found love is K Newman, he seems to be the only driver can say K Newman was one of our best drivers to grace a track here, i hope the NZ version follows in his famous namesakes footsteps The commentator seems to be calling the correct horses tonight but the sectionals he quotes is different to what is shown in the graphics?

The 23rd Psalm (new version) Ardern is the shepherd I did not want. She leadeth me beside the still factories. She restoreth my faith in the National Party. She guideth me in the path of unemployment for her party's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the breadline, I shall fear no hunger, for her handouts are with me. She has anointed my income with taxes, My expenses runneth over. Surely, poverty and hard living will follow me all the days of my life, And I will live in a rented house forever... I am glad I am a Kiwi, I am glad that I am (sort of) free. But I wish I was a dog.... And Ardern was a tree.

And they still have not said what the real reason is...maybe where there is smoke there is fire...CEO Tim is welcome to come on and explain...I have no issue with that...but as I say I won't be holding my breath...just owners being treated with the disdain that has become normal unfortunately these days.Sad really.

  14. Cripes. That's a bit harsh Neil. For a small player you will find I have contributed countless voluntary hours to the industry at several levels, licence-holder associations, club committees, running trial meetings, pro bono research for NZTR, advocacy for licence holders etc. All the while participating as an owner both in breeding and racing for just on 50 years now. If you think it is nit picking to question why owners are excluded from today's CJC meeting, when Ellerslie and Trentham manage to accommodate them, then we are on quite different pages. I have owned and raced a horse or two in NZ for 50 years now. 2 in work currently. With ownership comes responsibility but also some privileges. When one of those is taken away without reasonable explanation, I think I have every right to complain if not a responsibility to do so. I am not alone. Plenty of other owners with horses in at Riccarton are very annoyed.

If you happen to watch a bit of sport all penalties are dealt with at the time of incident and the other side is awarded an advantage haven't seen that in a race finish any where in the world

We had that many breaches of quarantine and isolation it was ridiculous, and used measures that would not of stopped the invisible peril and by their own admission, the masks the followers were using were utterly useless and now they want everyone using expensive N95s How much money has this experimental vaccine cost NZ ??????? More have died from it here than the disease not to mention the large amount of suicides and financial ruin created by labour and their team of so called experts..criminal

It is a joke, every year in NZ for yonks, we have had a death toll of 500 - 1,000 deaths for the common flu, are you willing to accept that number this year ?

  18. Hope you recover quicker than expected Alicia. . Take care of yourself. I look forward to your returning to the track later this year. All the best. You are my favourite Northern junior so I need you back on track as soon as possible. In fact, I think you are the second best junior driver in the country. Sarah O'Reilly is the best in my humble opinion. Get well soon Alicia. Thinking of you.

  21. With entries and some weights published this week, the shadow of Cheltenham lengthens over the racing scene up here with barely 6 weeks until the fun and games down Gloucestershire way. From now on, all the significant races become "trials" for the championship races at Prestbury Park. Indeed, Saturday's card is called "Trials Saturday" which does rather give the game away. Three Grade 2 races set to be run on Good ground after an extraordinarily day January. The question is whether the dry spell will continue in which case these races may have some relevance to the big events in March which would be run on a similar surface or whether the heavens will open and the ground will be much softer - for now, that's a huge unknown. 8 go in the trial for the Triumph, the juvenile hurdle over 3200m for the 4-y-o. Top rated is FOREVER WILLIAM who did me a nice turn each way at Chepstow over Christmas but he was beaten nearly 10 lengths that day in third. On the same day, the ex-French type ICEO absolutely hosed up at Kempton - if he handles the undulations of Cheltenham, I think he's the one but there are a couple of other unbeaten types in SILVER SHADE and the Irish raider PIED PIPER who could be anything. Just five go in the Cotswold over the Gold Cup course and distance. CHANTRY HOUSE has to bounce back from a poor run in the King George and they've put cheekpieces on him. The track and ground hold no fears but if he's a serious Gold Cup horse he has to win this and well. The Scottish challenger AYE RIGHT won the Rehearsal at Newcastle but he's got to prove he deserves a place in the Gold Cup field. SIMPLY THE BETTS has to prove this trip works. Just five also in the Cleeve for the staying hurdlers over 4800m. CHAMP won the Long Walk at Ascot to jump right into the Stayers' Hurdle market and he should be too good for MCFABULOUS and PAISLEY PARK on this ground over this trip. At Doncaster, THIRD TIME LUCKI is on a recovery mission in the 3200m Lightning Chase after being well beaten by EDWARDSTONE in the Henry VIII at Sandown. To be fair, with only two opponents rated inferior, he should win this easily. The Mares hurdle over 3200m is yet another small field - just five. WESTERN VICTORY ran herself out at Ascot last weekend and I'm not convinced about such a quick renewal. MIRANDA finished second to the winner of that race at Ascot last Saturday, MOLLY OLLY'S WISHES, at Wetherby on seasonal bow and won easily at Ludlow after that. She's another short priced favourite who should oblige. Finally, we have a much more open River Don for the staying novice hurdlers over 4850m. Whether any of these will be good enough for the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham is debatable but at least we have a more open heat with seven runners. MY BOBBY DAZZLER is top rated but all his form is on flat sharp tracks and even though the ground will be on the quick side, Doncaster may not be ideal. UNANSWERED PRAYERS is favourite at 11/4 but this is a big step on winning small novice races. I quite like MAHLER MISSION who came over from Ireland and bolted up in a nothing race at Sedgefield. I suspect he's a fair bit better than that.

  23. Most Aussie meetings are laced with ex-Kiwi owned horses. A few I have noticed recently... 1 ) Peakz Luck - a handy trotting mare who placed in a couple of Group races in NZ...In NZ raced 26 times for 3 wins ,3 seconds and earned $40 k. Last raced Cambridge in August , has had 8 Aussie starts for 5 wins and 3 thirds and earned A$34 k .Yesterday won a Group 3 off back mark, winning A$14,250.Her previous 4 wins were for A$4,000 each. 2 ) Once Bitten - a filly/mare by Sir Lincoln. Just raced twice in NZ for a maiden win and unlucky third at Auckland .Reportedly sold for $130 k. Has raced 3 x times in Aussie for a third , now spelling. 3 ) Mass Destruction - won his only start as a 2 yr old trotter .had 32 starts in NZ for 5 wins and 2 seconds [$35k].Has had 54 Aussie starts for 10 wins and $77k stakes 4 ) Simon - had 24 starts in NZ for 4 wins and $35 . In Aussie has had 46 starts for 12 wins ,several places and earned A$64 k.His most recent wins were in Queensland [Redcliffe] and won A$2566 and A$1764. Redcliffe seems to run several meetings a week ! There are many other examples of NZ horses thriving on the extra opportunities over the ditch.

Well I guess that the “new” track manager whoever he or she is, got it all wrong. Remember Mark Biddle is now gone now, so the “panel of experts now in control” obviously still have a bit to learn! I am going to watch with interest as Mark in my opinion, was unfairly made a scapegoat. Liz

If you didn't think the fence was off well you have no idea. Both days the fence has been off. The 1189m Telegraph in the middle of the track proved that. Even the first winner on the first day came two off the fence when straightening.
