Dear oh dear…..Auckland Cup downgraded to Group 2…
Memphis3 and one other reacted to Disillusioned for a topic
Berri, how curious that you use my nom-de-chat in your comments, heh. I feel your angst. Several folk - thou and I included - who have dared to raise points in here that are against the norm have been slapped down with (inane to me) comments that we should get ourselves elected to 'the board' and work from within. Or shut the kcuf up... Your experience - and, to a far lesser extent, mine - simply shows that the majority of board members, not just racing boards, are loath to embrace change ... and are aided in that loath by them representing rank and file members/shareholders/whatever who are too timid or too cowed to demand such change. Your comment re the TAB telling you - 1994? - that the TAB "didn't think their customers would embrace the internet for betting' had me chortling merrily...2 points -
I find your response deplorable Nelli. The South Island has been subjected to serious economic and social pain as a result of lax behavior in parts of Auckland. Your protection argument lacks any cognizance of the facts, just think of all the escapees to Wanaka in recent times and its naïve to think they were not alone.2 points

I have been a member of the Auckland racing club. I got disillusioned. I helped Don McLaren become the chair. I've appeared before the board there (some time ago) when we realised racing was in the poo but the problem has been engendering support from further up the pig trough hierarchy at that time. Hopefully this has changed some what. I recently applied to become a member of the NZTR. They didn't even want to interview me. Same for the NZTAB. I didn't expect to get there because I am too controversial and don't suffer stupidity but I can be a team player. I found the process very interesting. In the first instance, I didn't receive a receipt that I had actually applied. I then received a notification that I had been unsuccessful in my application after the positions had been announced. That one really amused me. Brian de Lore is right. There is a sort of club mentality going on. Considering I have been a stable hand for Dave O'Sullivan (Mike Moroney was my room mate), went to Uni and studied equine exercise physiology (also got an Associate Diploma in Agriculture), have invested heavily in horses (not pretend ownership), imported some champion stallions, invested heavily in tech companies (including media tech), built totalisators and now into the blockchain technology, whilst being a part owner in a privately family owned multinational European business (turnover 1b+), you'd think I'd get an interview...but no. We tried to put tacking technology into this country. Got a system up and running. Big problem was that the course distances were wrong, the starting stalls were placed incorrectly, and therefore you couldn't automate the solution. Tried seriously hard to get that one across the line but despite the NZTR spending $45k, Bernard hasn't picked it up in order to complete it. We also tried to get a protocol to improve track conditions done. The theory was put weather stations on three tracks, get the data and establish protocols to make sure that irrigation wasn't used incorrectly. The next phase of that was to convert the fertiliser/ swarth management in order to provide safe consistent racing surfaces. That also got canned under Bernard's care. The weather stations were also to provide punters, owners and trainers with better info but they were kept operational. I was the guy that publicly stepped up to the plate and said that Typhoon was a waste of money and time. I got Poo Pooed by the then management of the TAB. I said the same thing in relation to the commercial efficacy of the current FOB platform. No one listened. Goes way back...in 1994 Dave O'Sullivan, Patrick Hogan and I went to Wellington to provide the RIB with an internet betting solution. I'd seen the internet at work between Davis Uni in California and Harvard, because I found myself there for research. The response back to me was that the TAB "didn't think their customers would embrace the internet for betting". Hickton rejected my promotion to create an exchange (Betfair hadn't yet taken off) because he said the "TAB was not in the business of experimentation"'. I have been very vocal in respect of the Blockchain as I think it has the potential to screw everything up again. No one listens. I've been saying it for some time, distance racing and large fields attract the highest betting correlations.2 points

Superstars of the Spring Comp - Round 5, Saturday 2 October...
Memphis3 reacted to Ponderosa8 for a topic
Entry thread for Round 5 of the Superstars of the Spring Competition, Saturday 2nd October. As advised by Scooby, it has been decided to shorten the comp and it will now finish on Saturday 6 November (was previously going to be Saturday 27 November). Going thru to 27 November meant every Team went up against every other team once, but by now shortening the comp means that’s no longer possible, so there will no longer be Head to Head match-ups each week. We’re retaining all the Teams as is but instead of the Head to Heads its going to be an “all in” each week. While the $250 bonus for winning the Head to Head will no longer apply, it has been replaced with a different incentive with a Bonus being paid to the Top 8 Teams each week as follows: 1st - $1,000 2nd - $750 3rd - $600 4th - $500 5th - $400 6th - $300 7th - $200 8th - $100 So if your Team is travelling average but then happen to have a good week and finish near the top of the table the Bonus might be just what you need to make it up the table… I think it certainly beats a Team scoring $2,500 (for e.g. and losing a Head to Head) while another Team scoring $2,000 (for e.g. and winning a Head to Head and gets a $250 bonus) Lastly, with Maverick (Gunsynd) not posting again last week he has been removed from the comp and I’ve (Ponderosa8) now joined that team and will start scoring for them from this week. And will start from $0.00 in the Individual comp. Enough of the changes and now to the important stuff. Races for this week are.. Hastings Race 6: Hastings Race 8: Randwick Race 2: Randwick Race 3: Randwick Race 5: Randwick Race 6: Randwick Race 7: Randwick Race 8: Randwick Race 9: Flemington Race 3: Flemington Race 4: Flemington Race 5: Flemington Race 6: Flemington Race 7: Flemington Race 8: (please post in the order shown, and don’t forget your 2 Best Bets). So a big weekend with 15 races…..CLOSE OFF TIME 3.05PM Hope you’re all okay with the changes… it shouldn’t change your thinking as either way its all about picking winners and collecting as much money as possible.…. so get your picks in and Good Luck…1 point -

Hardly eljay......proved he is the master ! Took the chance to tell the media that his horse would probably NOT win. Said he'd be happy with a top 3 finish , but the horse was 'hefty' in condition and would be driven conservatively. He added that Natalie's horse was at his stable ,and more forward of the two. Proved IMO he is the master ! And she did what she normally does when on best horse in race ,on the night.......drove aggressively ! That why she so good !1 point -

There has been some slight changes to the scoring to keep it more competitive and interesting for ALL teams to have a shot a winning the competition right up until the end. Ponderosa has posted the changes with the latest entry thread. Once again thanks to everyone for playing the competition to date and we hope everyone continues to play until the end....one good weekend is all it needs to get back in the hunt. Hi Pondy, ALL great alterations in my opinion. For memory, the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival is the last day of the comp , so it will have wrapped up the Major Spring Races by then, as intended. Hopefully the new duration will be more manageable from your scoring perspective as well, as it was quite a long haul ahead of you. My availability can be a bit unpredictable, but if you need a break from scoring let me know and I'll see if I can sub in at some point. Also I'm glad you have come off the ballot and got a start. I thought it was amazingly generous of you to devote the time to the scoring without even having an running interest in the event itself. Good luck with your selections. Cheers, Phil1 point -

Do people not even consider why we see and hear Covid propaganda everytime you turn on a TV,Radio or the internet ? If this was a good idea people would be falling all over each other to get the poison ..... so we offset that by bombarding the backstreet of Cafe “Today, we focus almost exclusively on COVID death saves and vaccine efficacy because we were led to believe that vaccines were perfectly safe. But this is simply not true.” “For example, there are four times as many heart attacks in the treatment group in the Pfizer 6-month trial report,” Kirsch continued. “That wasn’t bad luck. VAERS shows heart attacks happened 71x more often following these vaccines compared to any other vaccine.” “In all 20 people died who got the drug, 14 died who got the placebo. Few people noticed that. If the net all-cause mortality from the vaccine is negative, vaccines, boosters, and mandates are all nonsensical.”1 point

It's not uncommon for anyone who works outdoors to have either a runny or stuffed nose especially with early in the morning fresh air and out in all the weather elements including rainy starts, or exposure to pollen and other allergens. A little commonsense would go a long way rather than dumping people in the Covid19 category and denying them the basic fundamental rights to go out and earn a living. This young man has stated he's got underlying conditions so it would go a long way to look at the situation logically. One can only hope that his current employer and his family and friends help with sorting this out. The Racing industry should be standing up to those who are calling the shots in Public Health who are generally based indoors, as most of those people have never ever examined a patient, nor are they legally qualified to form opinions about one's Private Health information that prior to the Twitter University Academics Data-mining on the internet was generally Confidential information btwn a Doctor and their Patient. It's overdue these Privacy Breaches were Ceased. For those who are not aware, Covid19 has in many countries been downgraded to a passing influenza. Australia and NZ are way behind accepted International common sense decision making. It's time heads rolled..and these Public Health Advisors were held to account like Medical Professionals are if they Cause Harm, in this case one can only imagine the Mental Distress this young Jockey may be going through.1 point

As described, memory-type immune responses ensure the rapid rise of antibody titres after initial exposure to SARS-CoV-2, rendering the benefit of vaccine-induced antibody response exceedingly doubtful. Regardless, we should not assume that high antibody titres against SARS-CoV-2 will always improve the clinical outcome. With several virus families—in particular with Dengue virus, but also with coronaviruses—antibodies can aggravate rather than mitigate disease. This occurs because certain cells of the immune system take up antibody-tagged microbes and destroy them. If a virus particle to which antibodies have bound is taken up by such a cell, but it then manages to evade destruction, it may instead start to multiply within the cell. Overall, the antibody will then have enhanced the replication of the virus. Clinically, this antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) can cause a hyperinflammatory response (a “cytokine storm”) that will amplify the damage to the lungs, liver and other organs of our body. Attempts to develop vaccines to the original SARS virus, which is closely related to SARS-CoV-2, repeatedly failed due to ADE. The vaccines did induce antibodies, but when the vaccinated animals were subsequently infected with the virus, they became more ill than the unvaccinated controls (see e.g. [11]). The possibility of ADE was not adequately addressed in the clinical trials on any of the COVID-19 vaccines. It is therefore prudent to avoid the danger of inducing ADE through vaccination and instead rely on proven forms of treatment [12] for dealing with clinically severe COVID-19 disease.1 point
