I have followed this site since it started and watch it deteriorate from an interesting and generally humourous place to seeing a litany of rubbish spewing out from many mouths who think they are tough NZ males. I don’t agree much with pound for pound but at least he fronts up. For 60 years I have watched the industry slowly decline to the sick state it is in now. If it was not for lady jockeys and Asian apprentices there would be one meeting a week. Continually criticising Labour at present does not explain the decline over the last 50 years when National was in power for the majority of those years. I get that many of you don’t like Labour but some of the vile comments are disgusting. What some of you would call vigorous debate is crap coming from anonymous key board warriors who talk tough without any accountability. Like so many in my age group you continue to ignore science, deny climate change, complain about attempts to mitigate racial and economic inequality etc etc. Face facts : You are not as important as you think and your power is continuing to diminish as evidenced by the last election. In signing off I recognise that I written this anonymously too but I can’t be bothered with the inevitable backlash.

  3. Don’t let the perfect get in the way of the good. I put $25 into BGP club and was also on the zoom call with about 200 other participants for the afternoon. It was a heck of a lot of fun & a great way to spend a wet locked down Saturday afternoon! BGP have asked for feedback on what could be done differently next time - plenty of opportunity to provide feedback through their social media. I’ll be in the next one.

    Heads should roll

During a recent court case involving a 6 year old child and her foster parents,Sir Wira Gardiner (head of Oranga Tamariki) contacted the Chief District Court Judge and the Principal Family Court Judge to get them to contact the presiding judge because didn't like the way he questioned one of his staff. From what i have read one of them did make contact.. Surely this is judicial interference at its worst.

Gary thanks for the input, you are entitled to your opinion and some of what you say I agree with, I also do not like people taking potshots from behind a key board towards good hard working people in the industry but it is what it is in these internet times so we all have to get used to it...unfair and wrong as it sometimes is. Many on here would never say to the people they rubbish what they in here to their faces but hey lets not stress to much about it.

What on earth were our Politicians thinking to even rely on Reports of incidents of 1 of 4 symptoms in Google Scholar Papers published on the internet in Churches in South Korea and Wisconsin, USA which are not even comparable to that of those in New Zealand, nor Australia? What on earth were our Politicians doing listening to the likes of Siouxsie Wiles and her garbage comparisons with people in Israel when we don't have bom*ings so are not even a comparable country? Why were we ever compared to an abattoir situation in Australia? Why have these so called 'Experts' not once factored into account we have both Public and Private Healthcare systems in most places and corners in New Zealand so there's absolutely no chance of been 'overwhelmed" with cases? Be mindful, private hospitals currently can't even undertake operations at the moment, nor appointments like they should be able to, bc of this nightmare these incompetent people have put us in Claims we were ever going to be overwhelmed with this disease in our hospitals and using actors and footage from years gone by, as has been evidenced in other countries is an abuse of the people. It's time for accountability and sackings. Misleading Parliament is a serious offense. Feeding the people bull crap it was only going to be 2 weeks is also criminal and an outright lie Jacinda, Siouxsie, Ashley, Ayesha, Baker, Wilson and your cozy lying team

Exactly. A return is defined as a profit on an investment. This is not a return it is a loss. Even after the TAB top up there is no return. Calling it a return is very misleading.

  12. Well said, it was once again a marvelous effort by BGP to get others interested in TB racing. As a bonus it was cheap marketing/advertising for NZTAB given the likely future multiplier effect of the promo. It also IMO showed how each party worked with the other to get a positive outcome for both entities.

  14. I have suggested to Scooby that we run a teams competition over the Spring Carnivals in Australia and NZ. There is some fantastic racing coming up over the September to November period and you can see the main Oz races here : https://www.justhorseracing.com.au/races/spring-carnival Details yet to be fleshed out, but the idea would be to have teams of 4 or 5 players, depending on entry numbers, with teams and individual players competing against each other, with the team ( and individual ) who achieves the highest aggregate dollar return from their selections, being declared the winner(s) Ideally 10-20 teams would be fantastic, and this post is just to guage interest in entering such a competition. Needless to say a phenomenal scorer will be required ( come in Pondy…. ) to keep us all sane. Prizes for winning team and highest aggregate individual to be confirmed.

Garry, Good on you for voicing your thoughts. You sound a bit frustrated realizing that others do not agree with your personal views/opinions, and in many ways they may differ by many degrees from what you consider normal and proper thinking. In the past, especially in a small country like NZ where communities were strong influences, we all had some say in how things were done - that is now being closed down by central govt mandates along with importation of people with different cultures/values and also commercial interests/corruption that was not as obvious in the past. The other aspect is that Social media has probably made you more aware that others may hold radically different views from you - they have always had different views it is just that you were unaware of those people before you entered the world of facebook/twitter/online forums etc. Check out the late 1960's TV series (17 episodes) called "The Prisoner" and you may relate to this feeling of being trapped in a crazy world without any control. When asked about what the biggest threat to society is, Patrick McGoohan the creator and main character of the series said simply "Progress". You may find the source of your frustration within his prescient reply, spoken in the 1960's. Life is changing too fast for all of us. Sorry if the comments sound like preaching, just trying to give you a different perspective to help with obtaining peace of mind.

It's also overdue that it's accepted it's a Personal Choice if one wishes to get a Vaccination or not, it's not for a Dictator to decide for us. How could anyone allow their Ministers to tell so many lies to the people and try evade accountability for ongoing dishonesty? Anyone else notice the coincidence and Timelines of Hipkins screwing up with Vaccine orders, the ramping up of claims we now have Delta, testing for Delta when there's not any evidence what it's proven to be in a Laboratory, and Lockdowns? It's winter for heavens sake in New Zealand. Do they not teach the difference between the four seasons and influx of pneumonia, coughs and / or runny noses are generally just that at this time of the year to students at Imperial College , Universities around the world and not some dreamed up Coronavirus unrelated to the Wuhan Miners who had pneumonia which is what the Wuhan Science Papers relied on for Coronavirus stated in the midst of China's Winter months? It's time to move on Politicians, let the people have their FREEDOMS to go about live and admit you have screwed up our economies through your own failings. Those calling the shots need to put their hands up, admit failings and be sacked.

  19. @RacingJimmy If they are fit and healthy, why shouldn't they be allowed to go about their lives as we all should be doing without the disproportionate regulations some think we should be under? It's everyone's lawful right to go to work to earn a living and support oneself and one's family. It's overdue that Dr Ashley Bloomfield was held to account for failing to adhere to The Hippocratic Oath, First Do No Harm

  20. Now we are getting somewhere, don’t worry about the wage subsidy as that goes straight to the staff . question for you … do you think you can feed a racing dog for $5 a day ? Depending on your answer we might just be on the right track . what do you think his daily running costs are ? Don’t worry about me for now let’s just get to the bottom of this as this is the topic, you are yet to compare your theory for a smaller trainer how they are not better off. going by your math it would be 32k not 33k so your down 1k to start.

But on that case doesn't your original investment stay in place? So yes, if you're only taking the interest your return IS 23% in that case. That's not the case in something like a Punter's Club. You get your share of everything left at the end of each day, so the return included your original "investment".

  22. Yes, you do need to show some ID but don't tell those mongrel Democrats that. It is not mandated that it is a passport, a Driver's Licence the best bet, but then according to Police 10-7 there is a large group who drive without bothering to procure a licence! (Well not their own )

  24. Viewed in the context of penalties handed down to jockeys who have severely injured other jockeys and killed horses because of their careless actions in races this does seem to be out of all proportion. Even comparing it to the lunatic fringe who have rioted in Sydney and Melbourne during lockdown and largely got away scot free this does seem to be over-kill. It isn't as if they showed any violent intend toward the forces of the law. You can just see court cases coming out of this going forward. You would only have to ask what would happen to normal members of the public caught in similar circumstances.

  25. I don't know what all the breakdowns are these days but I assume they spent well over $500,000, so the TAB probably made about $50,000 from various deductions. The big winner of course would have been the Govt with GST and other duties, we shouldn't really begrudge them that, they need all the money they can get these days. The big problem with punters clubs is that some punters invest their $10 or so and that is their total direct investment for the day, they then get their interest for the day from following the club bets rather than putting on any more bets of their own. So the Club needs to churn the money over as much as possible so there is a net benefit for the day.

  29. Are you for real? Didn’t he win 100k I’m the first 11 days of racing this month? If you can feed and look after 1 dog for $5 a day your doing something very wrong that would not even come close . But I do say well done to Nzgra for offering up this subsidy. You people do realise it’s a wage subsidy from the government like every other business he must pay staff.? He like everyone else must keep his business running and this all comes at a cost the bigger the business the bigger the cost . I really can’t see joe where you find your logic .

How many senior trainers do you see being brought before the JCA for similar offences? EVERBODY knows the rules. Personally I think he got off lightly. Throw the book at them, it's time to start stamping this out once & for all. Otherwise the industry looks weak and it gives the animal welfare groups more ammunition!!

How does a logical person think? A logical person is someone that knows they could be wrong about something - A worldview, a decision, a relationship - And looks at the facts. If they are wrong, they make it right. You should be able to have a thoughtful, intelligent, and factual debate, with the absence of emotion, with a logical person.

MPI decision on "essential services" NZTR 25 March 2020 In light of the government’s announcement that the country will move to COVID-19 alert level 4 at midnight tonight (25 March) only “essential services” are permitted to operate. Our advice from the Ministry for Primary Industries confirms that training centres, training stables, agistment properties and stud farms where horses are in containment are considered essential services under animal welfare considerations. Businesses with more than five people (including the owner) working at each business site, or who cannot achieve social distancing between staff, are required to register. The criteria and registration form can be found here. The businesses will need to answer 11 questions to provide assurance they have a plan and process to manage infection risks. Much of this will be covered in the NZTR protocols which will be distributed later today. In addition to this NZTR, the NZ Trainers’ Association and the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association will be providing a template to assist with completing the paperwork in a further communication later today. MPI has requested that all businesses which need to register do so by 5pm on Friday, 27 March 2020. Businesses will be able to continue operating while going through the registration process.

Uriah Heap , please think a little about cindys successes as a leader and the successes of her small , Winston dominated government . This racing decision is totally in line with all her other decisions , failed policy after failed policy , she in reality, has no right to be in the job . Now this current shockingly poor decision should be used by the racing industry to argue for the continuation of racing , even if it is without public attendance . The whare house will have thousands going through their doors daily , racing could easily argue oncourse attendance be limited to owners as well as essential staff and carry on , this will be far safer for the community than shopping at the wharehouse .
