  1. Roger Sugrue

    General Simm

Couldn't believe my eyes, there it is in black and white....my old mate of the 1970s....General Simm......in probably his finest achievement.....gets a few sentences in today's international publication ANZ Bloodstock News ( page 17) The old warrior who faced the starter 231 times in the 70's was a son of Kinsimm...... who notably is the 5th dam of Avantage Was he a warrior....I swear he raced every weekend during spring and summer ...year in and year out He was always in the Open Sprint, 2nd leg of the Double.....would hare off in the lead .....usually falling back through the field Occasionally he would hang on for 2nd or 3rd ( think I recall him winning once).....I guess through good luck I always seemed to be on when he was in the money and got some great place divvies ( never backed him to win) and concession doubles There was added stress because we always had to listen to the world's worst ever Commentator, Bill Cherry..........and we often had no idea of placings after the race either.... I never saw him race ......not sure that he ever ventured north of Gore I think he was trained in Otautau or Tuatapere or similar village in Southland ......was he trained by Mr Ford ? General's Mum, Kinsimm won 13 races as far north as Riccarton and it's a hell of a good family which is explained well in that article I'm sure General would have raced against The Pixie and probably also against her half brother The Swagger........two great families doing the business 60 years on RIP General..... gone but not forgotten

    General Simm

Roger Sugrue General Simm won 9 races I think. Unraced at 2 he was trained by Rex Cochrane at 3-5. His first win was at Oamaru on the 10/6/67 ridden by TP Brown. At 6 he was trained by his owners EH Giles and RL Winter. At 7 he was trained by BM Forde. At 8 he was trained by RI McCauley. At 9 and 10 he was trained by BM Forde at Waihoaka. At 11 he was trained by TF Forde. At 10 he raced 42 times for 2 wins and at 11 he raced 39 times for 2 wins.

  6. You might have a grudge against cops/ and ex- cops Poundy Pound, actually a common theme in USA at the moment (as they riot and loot stores as a protest against justice lol...) BUT remember one thing Without these corrupt officials you hate so much The COMMUNITY Itself would be completely Over-run in days (if not hours) by an avalanche of your accused persons whom are not cops. The Infected sex offenders, rapists, liars, fabricators, gangs, criminals and drunks. And that's just at the races ! Hope they don't Win and hit the town after ????

  7. 2 1390 sprint races with capacity fields of 10 runners. The rest of the program is over 2000 metres and also well patronized. Is this the way of the future ?

  8. Brilliant work Gubellini.....most interesting......Please can you research his 12yo and 13yo seasons Mention is made that his final start was as a 13yo was on Anzac Day and although finishing last he was forgiven as he marched in the Dawn Parade ( who knows ? )

    Rangiora's Novel Races

My initial response is, why? But prepered to wait and see how races over 1390 go. Limited to 6 off the front, will that make much difference if you draw 5 or 6? Be watching with interest, but won't be having a punt!!!

  10. I think Guy Harwood thought ALPHABATIM was his best 3-y-o in 1984 but he was too slow for the Derby. He won the Lingfield Trial but at Epsom it all happened too quick and he was fifth to SECRETO and one place behind AT TALAQ who we mentioned the other day. It was a poor summer for the Harwood horses that year with a virus in the yard - ALPHABATIM was aimed at the Leger and ended up third to COMMANCHE RUN, on whom Piggott was at his brilliant assertive best and BAYNOUN. Could he have gone well in the Arc? I doubt it - I suspect he'd have hated the ground which was terrible that year in Paris. The Harwood stable jockey, Greville Starkey, ended up on STRAWBERRY ROAD who you lot will remember as the Cox Plate winner in 1983. John Nicholls brought him over and he won the Grosser Preis von Baden before running fifth in the Arc and went on to win big races in France and the US. You couldn't imagine a Cox Plate winner coming over to run in the following year's Arc nowadays -

  13. So a Border worker at the Airport who was FULLY Vaccinated tests positive using the Dicey PCR... WHY are we surprised at this? Pfizer state you will still carry and as a result most probably spread the ‘Virus’ ... and yes Adern has spent Hundreds of millions on these vaccines it’s only taxpayer money.... the only worry now is how this person reacts to SARS cov 2 Had to laugh at the Doctor interviewed on the News... he said ‘ The Vaccine is 95% efficient so there’s always potential for this you can’t make this shit up

  14. The General Public are under the illusion these ‘Covid vaccines’ are approved safe and efficient... The FDA has NOT approved any of these potions yet we see our Politicians and Media promoting something they know little about. The Emergency use authorisation was designed to be used as a potential lifeline where nothing else could be done..they have therapeutics proven to work....This quote is from an expert epidemiologist on the FDA committee who along with three other intelligent colleagues didn’t allow approval.for EUA use on under 16s... the data is being collected now, and YOU are going to be part of the experiment ... and how many people do you know even know the name of the Potion your ‘pulling your sleeves up to save others’ ..... COMIRNATY which is a mash of community, immunity Covid and mRNA.... “EUA is only applicable for life-threatening conditions; severe COVID with potential for a high risk of mortality is predominantly found in older populations and those with certain chronic medical conditions,” he added. “Messaging to the general public on the distinction between authorization and approval is critical. We need to convey the continued investigational status of an EUA product and continue to collect the necessary data in support of eventual full licensure.”

  16. The bike certainly does help......but the most profitable days I have are when I have a puncture which forces me to stay at home. Devices are the way forward....there a reason why the retail outlets are slowly but surely disappearing. Sports betting has introduced many new punters in NZ and 85% of sports bets are on devices. Once all you folk brought up on yellow handwritten tickets retire ,devices will be close to 100% with machines handling the cream......if it all hasn't turned to custard !

  17. Us Kiwis were distraught recently when only 4 x horses nominated for a Group 1 race.....a 2 yr old race which eventually had 8 starters [from memory] for $200k. On Saturday ,ONLY 7 horses chased $4.35mill in the 2000m race ....including one visiting Pom. Plus 3 x other races saw 9 and 10 horses chasing $1.09 mill. A 2yr old sprint , the 3 yr old Oaks , and a 3 yr old 1200m. NZ races also criticised when the full advertised stake not paid out. Well the $4.35m race saw $3.92 mill paid out while about $980k paid out on $1.09 mill stake. Then there was the track which was expected to be GOOD after a mainly fine week. Apparently it was heavily watered the day prior ,the expected drying never occured and they raced on an OFF track. They raced on a soft/slow track....and Makybe Diva was nowhere to be seen. As I type these facts ,Perth have just equalised with the Phoenix ........I thought after the Breakers whipped Brisbane , the Worriers crushed St Georges ,that it was gonna be a beautiful weekend. And NZ cricket in the final with NO Aussie .And Lydia Ko too !
