    TAB, what do we think?

SEN Australia (Sports Entertainment Network) has apparently acquired all 29 Trackside frequencies initially to be fronted by cricketer/horseman Brendan McCallum. Maybe racing will get a better coverage now but it will be interesting at least to see what develops.

  4. Well Mulebacker, as you say, “Plenty of bullshit in this game”. The Alan T you’re referring to, I presume that’s the retired Qld Commentator? The one that’s Racing Manager for David Vandyke? You know the stable that lost the MM $2m race due to a positive returned by The Alligator? Is that the AT? Unless you are privy to the riding instructions given, one should not point the finger at Jocks - even though some do put in some bad ones. If you’re going to finger point and name a Jockey, I think you should first declare if you are talking thru the pocket. Who in their right mind would back a 4yo mare, that won a Ruakaka Maiden in Dec 2019 and has done absolutely nothing on racetrack or at trials since then that would cause one to think it could run well? You owe DJ an apology. The headline you posted up using words like “Corrupt” and “dirty”, might see DJ visiting a defamation lawyer for a bit of advice! Just saying. The horse is clearly no star - and its form for the last 15 months confirms that. In a human analogy, Ron Clarke, now deceased champion runner, held 17 World records for running. But he never won a Olympic Gold Medal. I played squash against him at his home court when he lived in Melbourne and over a beer after the game in his room full of hundreds and hundreds of trophies he won at World Athletic meets. There was one framed display with the 17 World Record Gold Medals he had been awarded. He said to me, “I’d swap them all for just one Olympic Gold”. moral of the story is, backing horses on times is very risky. It’s who finished behind them that counts most. Remember that.

  7. In the midst of the Cheltenham fun and games, probably indecent haste of me to mention the Irish turf flat season starts on Sunday at The Curragh where the going is Heavy. The traditional curtain raiser in Ireland is a 2-y-o race over 1000m. 11 have been entered - Aidan O'Brien has entered CADOMOSTO, a son of No Nay Never out of an Invincible Spirit mare. Jim Bolger has entered four, a colt and three fillies. The colt is I HAVE A VOICE, a son of Vocalised out of a Teofilio mare so you'd think 1000m would be plenty sharp enough. FREEDOM OF SPEECH is by Australia out of a Vocalised mare so you'd think 2000m would be her trip in time. GAIRE OS ARD is by Teofolio out of another Vocalised mare and MISSING MATRON is by Vocalised out of a Rock of Gibraltar mare so all four are home breds. I'm more interested in SILVER SURFER, trained by Donnacha O'Brien - a son of freshman sire Caravaggio out of a Kodiac mare so looks all speed.

  9. Interesting. You may well look at it and think she didn't try very hard in the straight, but to be honest the horse never fired a shot. It wasn't as if the horse was bolting and being restrained at any stage. No idea where you got that great lead up form from, from what I could see it had been beaten hopelessly in a couple of lead up trials.

    Montoya gone

Henry Darrow who played the part of Manalito Montoya in the Western High Chapparal has died at the age of 87. His sister was married to John Cannon owner of the ranch. Can't recal seeing him in anything else.

  12. Mates asked me to go in a yearling with them. An Embellish colt. I like Embellish. I told them that with the present racing administration in our country I would be asylum material if I invested in a New Zealand racehorse. Each week there is another example of their gross ineptitude. It is a pun to use the word "gross" because there have been 144 examples of that sort of idiocy during the past 33 months. If you want me to bore you shitless, I will list them.

  13. We're Doomed Rotorua would be the worse track in NZ when it comes to form analysis. On a Heavy 11 track in winter there form doesn't mean a thing. Horses with impeccable form get rolled and horses with a series of duck eggs pop up. Horses can win easily there and fail to measure up in subsequent starts.

  14. On then to the final day of the Cheltenham Festival on Friday and the final declarations are through. Just eight stand in the Triumph Hurdle for the 4-y-o novices over 3200m. There's very little between the top three in the betting - ZANAHIYR won the juvenile race at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival but this will be a different test though perhaps less so than normal with the much smaller field. TRITONIC looked very good at Kempton but I have some doubts about him on this more undulating track so I'm left with QUILIXIOS who looked good when winning the juvenile hurdle at the Dublin Festival in early February. 17 stand in the Albert Bartlett for the staying novice hurdlers over 4800m. This is a race which has grown in stature in recent years as it is a path either for the future staying novice chasers or for future champion staying hurdlers. Overnight favourite is STATLER who was third over 4400m at Leopardstown in early February and gave early impression a stiffer track and a step up in trip would help. FAKIERA was two lengths behind in fourth and there's very little between them. As you would expect, there's a strong home challenge with BARBADOS BUCK'S having every chance but I quite like Warwick winner ADMIREL at 10s and may play each way. The Gold Cup is the Blue Riband of jump racing - the championship event for the staying chasers over 5250m. 12 go to post and this race starts with AL BOUM PHOTO, winner the past two years. He looked perfectly good at Tramore on New Year's Day and has been brought to his peak superbly by trainer Willie Mullins. He's 6 lbs ahead of these and should win but it's the Gold Cup. A PLUS TARD won the Savils at Leopardstown at Christmas beating KEMBOY and was as decent third to MIN in the Ryanair last year but he's not proven at this trip. CHAMP won the staying novice championship last year and returned with a fine second in the Game Spirit over 3200m at Newbury - this is more his trip and he will go close if his jumping holds together. Plenty of the others have claims - FRODON won the King George but this is a very different race and he won't get an unchallenged lead. SANTINI ran a blinder in this last year but hasn't really performed this winter. The first time visor is an interesting move and the drying ground will also help - he tempts me at 14s as an each way play. One or two have bene talking up 2018 winner NATIVE RIVER and while he looked good at Sandown, I'm just worried about the ground - he was found out on it last year and it'll probably be a shade quicker.

  15. mulebacker pretty well every senior northern jockey ( including Danielle) have ridden horses I have shares in. I can't fault any of their rides. You are a very hard marker.I would say that Awareness has had Issues since that Ruakaka win. Might be "time" to tweak your computer modelling? Races are run on the track-not on a computer screen. As you well know the variables in racing are enormous!

  16. Mannies power notorious leader, the others would of kicked up. What happened last time fresh at Ruakaka when handy over 1200 ?Beaten in a 1.12 with a 36 600m . The trial at Cambridge before its 56.6 1000 was also rapid, but lead up trials before today only fair Mule, i agree with some of your content but you know the odds now try and beat them , theres crooks in all walks of life ,but this ride ? Apologise to Danielle next time you see her

  20. Thanks for this Pure Steel. Had a look at the race and hard to imagine more flagrant flouting of the Rules. Maybe the Victorian driver thought he could get away with it in another jurisdiction. Two subsequent points. The further Inquiry is to be headed by former Racing NSW Chief Steward, Ray Murrihy. So they are serious. Second, at Bully Delight's last Victorian start the same driver was fined for excessive whipping offences, among other things. More serious the Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the driver dropping his foot out of the sulky in the straight. For further investigation. If they find the driver also kicked the horses back legs in this event his enforced holiday maybe extended. Incidentally, although Anthony Butt's drive was knocked out the main event, at the start, he drove the winners of 3 other races on the program. So some recompense.

  22. The classic response of someone who has lost the argument. Try doing a bit of research, and offer some original thought that extends beyond abuse. You would have nothing in your life if 100 1 headed for the hills and your dementia would escalate. REASONED, KNOWLEDGE-BASED debate is a critical need as we age. I would recommend you try to engage in such behaviour. JMO. It would also lift your RC "approval" rating ( which compared to 100 1 is pretty dismal) and give you great joy.

    Stride Racing Club

Nerula....you sound a bit negative. I admit I know little about this outfit other than reading its ad and disclosure......BUT I note the organisor is an Authorised Syndicator ....advertised on therefore OK'ed by NZTR and features among nearly 20 others on the Love Racing website.....along with Bax,Ballymore, Fortuna,Go Racing ,Te Akau ,Challenge. Social Racing etc etc , I have been in syndicates with several of those. Stride maybe is similar to Social racing which says they are an entry level participation as opposed to Investment. A friend in South Island loved being in Social Racing especially when a horse raced at Otago and he only owner there so had a ball with the experience. He knew he leased a hair in the tail ! I have been in big syndicates with leased horses and owned horses ....the experience is similar and I'd say it would interest people to join your organisation . For younger newcomers I think it a good thing to invest him.....especially as the horses ready to race, one a winner ......so no long waits for action. I think your Doubting posts a bit unfortunate ,as they are Authorised Syndicators approved by NZTR so have already passed a certain threshold IMO.
