  4. Jacob McKay congratulations on winning the last at Matamata yesterday with Mighty Connor. Ironic that Vittachi could only run 9th.

  5. Another great win. Congrats to the team. Great gate speed to hustle through from the 2nd line and great initiative to pull out from the one one to go for the lead.

  6. Actually, two CD meetings in three days next week, and three meetings in 8 days from next Wednesday; 4 meetings in 11 days from Wednesday; 5 meetings in 15 days. All for the same pool of horses. And some people try to convince us NZ Racing is being well run.

  7. An amazing effort by Ponderosa8 today, picked all 12 winners including the 140-1 shot in the Australian Guineas so scored the maximum 70 points. But a sample taken has shown some irregularities so will without a doubt be disqualified which will mean Peter R S will be declared the winner with 39 points with mikenz, Racing Jimmy and Sir Castleton dead-heating with 34 points. Those people who's both BB's won were: Peter R S, tasman man, Nukkledragga and Sir Castleton. (bit of a rush job today so if believe your total is different to what I've shown below please let me know and I'll rectify). 8. Congrats to Peter and, as always, appreciation to Ponderosa and Scooby. It beats me how slow some (most?) folk are to give thanks to folk who are doing you a service (especially if that is voluntary) . I went to Otaki, Scooby, and picked the longshot quinela in the Weight For Age race. 'Highlight' of the day, mind, was having to drve back into Wellington wirth a bubbling partner who wouldn't shut up about the fact that little ol' her had put $7 on a horse called Lunar Fox on the spurious grounds that 'the Guineas field didn't look up to much'. Sometimes, I swear, there just isn't enough vomit in the world...

yes, spare a thought for everyone in the industry affected by this Gummit decision ..its not just one race! ...lots of business gets done over the carnival. Is it viable to run the Derby on Cup Day instead?

  13. I've surprised myself finishing 2nd equal, thanx for the opportunity to play this comp. Just noticed my other best bet got beaten a long neck, those 10 points for winning instead of the 3 for second would have made a slightly different outcome but that's life, its all fun anyway, more likely than not next time I will resume back to normal operations lol

    Racing review

This could be the first indication of big picture stuff and what happens to the money when club assets get sold. Forbury will be worth over $8m so it will set an interesting precedent. Under current racing legislation, the money received from any venue which is deemed as a surplus requirement and sold, is spent in the region. But the governing body, which in this case is Harness Racing New Zealand, has the final say on where the money is spent. It is not bound by legislation to give the money to the Forbury Park Trotting Club.

  18. Thanks Scooby and Ponderosa for running the competition, and everyone else for entering. It’s been a long time between wins, today I got lucky after a hot start when the roughies that no one picked began to win. Sadly was on the road travelling for most of it so was a nice surprise when the results were posted. cheers, Peter

  23. stewards doing a bad job for a long time. Real questions are where are the young trainers learning it from & how does it take a hidden camera to get caught. Clearly race day testing not working.

  26. Four horses going around in the open sprint; not a good look. Probably doesn't help having another CD feature meeting next Wednesday. Surely there is not enough room for both.

  28. Front page of Press. Interesting to see a list of the "Desperados "who have dragged the industry to rock bottom over past few years ! When it comes to doping though the ones caught are the dumb ones. The smart ones get away with it!!! Hopefully their day will come and the sooner it's an even playing field for all the better. Would be a disaster if we end up like the "blue magic" days and people take their own lives.

    Fuel Prices

Obviously if they 'stick together' they can easily increase prices.....and with wages going up along with the extra holidays and government handouts etc the consumer is the one who has to pay. And folk aren't using cars less...in fact the opposite.Cars are increasing by the week and car prices have gone up ...small and medium ....$4000 since July 2020. Plus the Fuel companies need to pay for their Discounts/Loyalty offers they make.....most people get 6c/litre discount ,Senior citizens another 2 cents or up to 12cents off overall on some days. Now often more often than once a week...Briscoes style. Plus they advertise the price with the discount already off to lure us in ! They play us like a fiddle !

  31. Some people criticize the RIU, but just imagine where we would be without them trying to stamp out all the crims. I don't know any of these trainers and drivers involved but I imagine some of them can't be all that bright? Surely there should be some sort of intelligence and integrity criteria associated with getting a trainers licence.

  35. i would like to see no noms/acceptance/entry fees for maidens and r65s and just pay first 3! First $8k (two months training) 2nd $4k (one months training) and 3rd $2k (half a months training). Maybe $500 for 4th and 5th. $15k total stakes.

  36. So many sensible points here. There is no logical reason why appearance fees should differ widely from race to race. Every aspect of this system is indicative of the fact it was devised by someone who has no idea. It seems extraordinary that it got right through the system without someone pointing out it was flawed. In any other business it would have been sent back to the person who devised it and he would have been told to get it right next time.

  37. Just in case some people don't realise, under the old stakes distribution a $100,000 race would have been paid out $65,000, $20,000, $10,000, $5,000. Under the new regime it is paid out $54,000, $17,500, $8,500, $5,000. For some reason the 4th placegetter does well under this system: no idea why, I have always just assumed the person who devised it was too thick to know any better. So a current day $100,000 race is equivalent to an $83,000 race in years gone by. So effectively stakes have dropped by 17%. I always feel sorry for the poor bugger who runs last in a 15 horse race. Whoever devised the new system obviously forgot some races have more than 14 runners, there is no other explanation for it.

  38. The NZTR love this, because this means if there are only 11 runners in a $10K race they only pay out $9.4K. Average field sizes are just over 11 so they are making massive savings!! This is so wrong, this should be distributed to the owners who pay for the show!!!!

  39. What poor fields for Group One meeting at Otaki. Entry cost is $20. A bit steep for a meeting like this. Those are big city entry prices not country meetings. When will some of these clubs learn.
