As expected, the cold spell ended on Sunday and it looks as though most racing will go ahead this week. That means a busy weekend coming with big jumps cards at Ascot and Haydock on Saturday and at Newbury on Sunday as we build toward Cheltenham which is exactly a month away. The feature at Ascot is the 4200m Grade 1 Ascot Chase. 10 have been entered including two on recovery missions after flopping in the King George at Christmas - CYRNAME and LOSTINTRANSLATION who were both pulled up behind FRODON. SAINT CALVADOS carried my each way money into fourth that day and you'd think over 600m less he'd have real claims but he tipped up at Sandown two weeks ago and I just think he'd be better on quicker ground. MASTER TOMMYTUCKER won a Grade 2 at Kempton last time but he's another who could do with drier ground. At a bigger price I quite like DASHEL DRASHER who has won his last two over course and distance albeit in handicap company. If you want quality Flat racing in the northern hemisphere, it's off to the Middle East at this time of year. Thursday's Meydan meeting looks a notch better than a couple of the recent Carnival fixtures. There are three Group 2 races starting with the Sprint over 1000m on the grass. Only six have been declared but they are a decent bunch. Three of them met in a race over course and distance last month when EQUILATERAL beat LAZULI into third with CASPIAN PRINCE fifth. The last named ran a decent second in a handicap last week but this looks ambitious. EQUILATERAL is very good on his day but he's inconsistent and LAZULI could reverse places. A'ALI won the Sapphire in Ireland and was only four lengths behind BATTAASH in the Nunthorpe. However, he trailed home last in the Flying Five and this is a recovery mission. I really like WAADY who beat EQUILATERAL in this last year and ran a fine second over 1200m on the Dirt last time while the 3-y-o ACKLAM PRINCE was a speedy juvenile and gets all the weight allowances. It's WAADY for me in a very interesting contest. Eleven go in the Group 2 Zabeel Mile on the grass. It looks wide open but I would choose D'BAI who ran well when second in the Al Fahidi Fort over 1400m. He hasn't gone over 1600m for a while but he did win over the trip as a juvenile. The interesting one against him is EPIC HERO who got to within two lengths of ZAKOUSKI last time at Newmarket and the latter won a Group 2 over 1800m last week. Ten go in the Balanchine, also over 1600m but for the fillies and mares. Eight of them met in the Cap Verdi three weeks ago and ALTHIQA won that convincingly and it's hard to see why it should be different this time. On to Saturday and we head off to Qatar for the Amir Trophy over 2400m. ASPETAR was last seen being well beaten in the Cox Plate but has fetched up here. BERKSHIRE ROCCO was second to SANTIAGO at Ascot and was also runner up in the Leger - that's class form and if he can bring the same form to 2400m he has shown at 2800m he has a real chance.2 points

Can they supplement into NZ Derby as she's not in entries I can see , stable don't have a colt in it so bar owners prize money no loss if she beats the males out of the yard . Must be a factor in decision if stable had a colt in there with a show .2 points -
I know this is doing the rounds and several people have sent it to me - but one of them is a well respected health care professional whose opinion I have always trusted. So whether in life you are pro or against vaccinations, these questions and answers should have you asking yourself at the least - "should I?" ●"If I get vaccinated can I stop wearing a mask(s)?" Goverment: "NO" ●"If I get vaccinated will the restaurants, bars, schools, fitness clubs, hair salons, etc. reopen and will people be able to get back to work like normal? Government: "NO" ●"If I get vaccinated will I be resistant to Covid?" Government: "Maybe. We don't know exactly, but probably not." ●"If I get vaccinated, at least I won't be contagious to others - right?" Government: "NO. the vaccine doesn’t stop transmission." ●"If I get vaccinated, how long will the vaccine last?" Government: "No one knows. All Covid "vaccines" are still in the experimental stage." ● "If I get vaccinated, can I stop social distancing?" Government: "NO" ● "If my parents, grandparents and myself all get vaccinated can we hug each other again?" Government: "NO" ● "So what's the benefit of getting vaccinated?" Government: "Hoping that the virus won't kill you." ●"Are you sure the vaccine won't injure or kill me?" Government: "NO" ●"If statistically the virus won't kill me (99.7% survival rate), why should I get vaccinated?" Government: "To protect others." ●"So if I get vaccinated, I can protect 100% of people I come in contact with?" Government: "NO" ● "If I experience a severe adverse reaction, long term effects (still unknown) or die from the vaccine will I (or my family) be compensated from the vaccine manufacture or the Government?" Government: "NO - the government and vaccine manufactures have 100% zero liability regarding this experimental drug" SO TO SUMMARIZE, the Covid19 "vaccine"... Does not provide immunity Does not eliminate the virus Does not prevent death Does not guarantee you won’t get it Does not stop you from passing it on to others Does not eliminate the need for travel bans Does not eliminate the need for business closures Does not eliminate the need for lockdowns Does not eliminate the need for masking Not FDA approved either2 points

Needs serious thought and would need to go better than the two that ran last Saturday. Group or age racing in Oz Is serious stuff.2 points

There is a lot of doom & gloom posted here but looking at the sales and the fact Addington have been able to increase stakes indicates things may not be as bad as some think. While betting figures seem hard to come by and we rely on general statements lacking detail from one source or another, Addington would seem to be doing alright in this regard. If their betting figures had decreased significantly I can't see how they would be able to achieve the increases they have. For sure the glory days of the 60's & 70's are over, never to return but there is still significant interest and participation in our beloved industry. The sport will adapt and like any sport or industry will need to keep changing to remain relevant. I for one am optimistic the sport will survive and keep giving its followers as much pleasure in the future as I have got being involved in the small way I have.2 points

Put up your medical and scientific evidence then Scooby. Just because someone has an interest in horses does not disqualify them from having significant medical and scientific knowledge on issues such as Covid-19. Enquiring minds should be supported and encouraged, not shut down.2 points

Bloomfield said it must stop transmission because ‘its the amount of virus theyre carrying around ‘ .... i found the Study that said one particle at 0.06 of a micron can create infection ..and weres the study that proves it stops transmission particularly around the ‘Variants’ which are well known as RNA viruses mutate ,which is nothing they never knew before these Vaccines were produced.... If you think i have Blinkers so did Vo Rogue.Wake up1 point

I don't think people use libraries anymore Tom. Don't think I have been in one for 20 odd years. And as far as I know turnover figures for each meeting aren't available anywhere. I presume this is because the powers that be don't want to be embarrassed by the fact that the popular country and provincial meetings do much better turnovers than the city tracks. I would love to see the turnover figures for Waikouaiti and Banks Pen at their flash new city tracks with tripled stakes compared with racing at their home track.1 point -
You certainly can't get away from it, on the news, sports new, seven sharp and everywhere else, enough to give you the shits,no wonder they are kicking punching and biting over the toilet paper, I'm well over it, and have resorted to fast forward most of the news, as for the vaccination, they cant stick that up their date. Not for me.1 point

Those top Savabeel fillys an mares seem to handle that ozzy pressure pretty well I guess being a big filly and not having raced as a 2yo it’s whether they want to throw her in in the deep end now or stay home an have a crack at a weak million dollar race an then decide. With the way she settles i personally can’t see 2400 being beyond her. It’s hard to really get a proper line on how good she is with what she’s beaten but Aegon this weekend might tell us something.1 point

Just about agree for once. Average age there must be 70+. Haven’t had much time for McConnell but he at least made sense the other day, and will try, repeat try, to make the party see sense down the track with the factions that are appearing there.1 point

Worst news that i read today is that Democrat Diane Feinstein has filed papers to run again for the Senate in 2024. She will be 91 years old and has held her seat since 1992. Wouldn't it be great if she stood down and took Mitch McConnell and Patrick Leahy with her.1 point -
...and be very wary of untested vaccines, remember every single person getting these vaccines are part of phase 3 of a clinical trial which ends in 2023..... but normally these people get paid1 point
