    UK Gambling Reform

It won't but the reactions of some on here mirror the reactions in the UK. The sceptre of "underground" betting has been raised and we've not had an issue with that since the legalisation of off-course shops 60 years ago. There is a wider issue and that's an anti-gambling undercurrent in the UK currently. There's a growing perception it's far too easy to become hooked on gambling and particularly online gaming which allows the addicted to run up huge losses which not only affects them but all around them. The UK bookmakers all have a strong online presence (but they aren't the only ones) and I think especially during lockdown, they've become an appealing source of entertainment for those trapped indoors. We've also seen a growing backlash to the large number of bookmaker retail outlets which seem able to flourish while other shops around them are closing. There are ten in my local High Street and most are open from 7.30am to 10pm (Irish dogs start before breakfast). The sense it's too easy to gamble and become addicted to gambling. It's a cultural thing in part but the bookmakers have done themselves few favours in recent times with some poor PR.

This is what you get when you vote for Communists! Brainless personality contest voters! National was dead in the water and had no chance of winning! So...what people should have done was vote NZ First! This shit would never have happened with a common sense Winston Peters in the coalition! You now have an extreme left wing Communist Labour/ Loopy Green coalition... free to reign! This is just the beginning! BAN GAS! BAN PETROL CARS! BAN COWS! Well done NZ VOTERS! ... YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVE FUCKWITS!

    Vale Khalid Abdullah

I put the below in my Northern Hemisphere thread on the Thoroughbred Cafe page: Sad news today with the passing of Prince Khalid Abdullah at the age of 83. Prince Khalid was one of the most significant owner-breeders of the past 40 years. He established Juddmonte who rivals Coolmore and Godolphin as top racing and breeding operations. Prince Khalid owned some wonderful horses such as KNOWN FACT and of course OASIS DREAM, one of the foundation stallions at Banstead Manor Stud. He owned arguably the two greatest horses of the modern era - DANCING BRAVE, the 1986 Derby and Arc winner and of course FRANKEL, the best horse of the 21st Century so far. FRANKEL's exploits need no repeating here and it's worth remembering the vintage 2012 Royal Ascot meeting where the wonderful BLACK CAVIAR strutted her stuff but FRANKEL stole the show with an 11-length demolition of a class field in the Queen Anne which remains the best performance I've seen on a racecourse in the past thirty years. More recently, he owned dual Arc winner ENABLE. I believe one of his sons, Prince Saud, may take on the racing business. Juddmonte currently has 250 horses in training round the world, a further 500 at its various stud operations and employs 250 people. Douglas Erskine-Crum, the CEO of Juddmonte, was interviewed on TV on Saturday afternoon and made it clear the operation would continue. Apparently the grandchildren are all racing fans so it seems very likely Juddmonte will continue for some while. While I obviously think about the UK angle, it would be remiss of me to forget to mention ARROGATE who carried the Juddmonte silks to success in the Dubai World Cup and the inaugural Pegasus. Unfortunately, he passed away last year. I'd also be remiss not to mention DANEHILL as one of the other great stallions from Juddmonte.

Tim Williams seemed to get a very raw deal from Allstars. He was the back-up driver while Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen took all the plum drives for themselves in the big stakes races. And one would have reasonably expected Tim to become No. 1 stable driver once Hayden Cullen took over the Allstars operation. But not so. In fact, Purdon and Rasmussen reappear for the big stakes races and the plum drives, and it seems like poor old has been shite on, and left out in the cold. And all of this confirms my long-held view that Purdon and Rasmussen are very greedyand selfish people. Shame on them.
