  1. It will be interesting to see what penalty is put on that idiot when he comes up on Thursday. It reminded me of a drunken far quit who drove his car on the inside of the course proper at Ellerslie some years ago. It was spooky. If the leaders had moved half a horse width away from the car on the inside of the running rail the consequences do not bear thinking about. When that miscreant came up for sentence he was slapped with a wet bus ticket and then the police objected to grog being enjoyed by those picnicking in the centre of the course. That went on to destroy the ambience of the Ellerslie course centre precinct. A huge blow to horse racing. What had been the greatest place in Auckland to enjoy a New Year's Day picnic is now gone. The Judge's actions on Thursday will be closely observed by all those with an interest in horse racing.

  2. Having been there and seen it, doubt it's a protestor. The druken dare seems more likely imo. For one, I'd have thought a protestor would take a sign or wear a t-shirt ie. broadcast their opinion while everyone is watching. I think they usually bugger off anyway once people stop coming anyway and this was near the end of the day. When the cops got him to the ground, a beer dropped and spilled everywhere and it definitely could've been his though it looked like some bystanders were half-pie taken out as well. He's a 100% fuckwit either way and of course we'll know more shortly.

could not make weight first 2 rides and replaced rode melody belle jumped off spewed and was still overweight when weighed in surely someone in a high place must not let him ride under 58 for his own health and the trainers that book him or simply retire

    Thoughts?

I know it's not Auckland, but Taupo was absolutely raging when I drove through yesterday. Even a meeting there would have attracted a huge crowd today.

Tradition is a foreign word to those that pull the strings.

  6. Soliloquy, you are probably 100% correct. However thinking about it, race 8 immediately before the Cup was the perfect race to make a statement or destroy the meeting. If for example two or three horses had come down, (which was extremely likely) that would have been the end of the day for sure. It would certainly have been a statement for their cause if that’s what the brain dead was about! However, looking at his photo, I doubt he would have any idea who Emily Pankhurst was! Liz

  9. Horses could quite easily have shied causing jockeys on the track. At least 12 months jail is required.

  10. Surprised no one else hasn't raised it but well done on your first win with new stable. Amazing moment for you, your wife and staff. I'm sure it will be the first of many.

  12. This guy has to be hit hard or we are going to see copy cat cases. WRC representatives coming out and saying this guy is going to be banned from our course, it is not enough, he is probably a first time racegoer, and would not care. It would be the equivalent of banning me from going to a Basketball game forever. He needs a little bit of the 12 months possible spent inside a prison to scare others off, and not a little bracelet around his leg. They have to push for this.

Interesting that Stipes today placed a 4 week restriction on Bosson accepting rides under 57.5kg. A good first move for his health and other's safety, IMO.

  15. Certainly is beyond a joke Gruff. Although in saying that I knew a medical person 50 years ago who always applied 3 or 4 condoms before proceeding with the dastardly act--I always thought it was about perceived augmentation rather than any safety issue

  17. He might be pulling that stunt of protesting now, interesting to hear if he was pissed , gut feeling 1.80 hes a piss head , dared by pissed mates and now working the scramble defence tactics now hes sobered up. A total fool whatever way .

    ALMANZOUR

ALMANZOR was a real superstar - the 2016 Irish Champion Stakes he won was the best race of the season in terms of depth. His first 2-y-o in Europe will be racing this season - it will be fascinating to see how they get on. We had an interesting pullout in the Racing Post on Thursday advertising the new stallions for the 2021 Northern Hemisphere breeding season. Darley's new stallions are EARTHLIGHT (by Shamardal), PINATUBO (also by Shamardal) and GHAIYYATH (by Dubawi). PINATUBO is standing at Darley Hall Stud in Newmarket for £35,000 SLF. GHAIYYATH, named 2020 horse of the year, has gone to Kildangan where he stands for 30,000 euro and EARTHLIGHT is also at KIldangan standing for 20,000 euro. Coolmore have Arc winner SOTTSASS, top miler CIRCUS MAXIMUS and the useful 2-y-o ARIZONA who never quite measured up at three. Elsewhere, KAMEKO is at Tweenhills Stud, owned by Sheikh Fahad and Qatar Racing. Shadwell Stud has MOHAATHER and Juddmonte have EXPERT EYE, both Group 1 winners. That's a really strong set of new sires and we'll see come 2024 how good any of them are.

Absolute joke that Thornton field considered Group 1 quality and lucky MB got across the line before an ailing Bosson fell off.

Nice win by Melody Belle but not sure that the form (behind her) out of the race would stack up in an Oz Listed race. Also, TLee mentioned Sunline in the same breath! I would have thought that there was no comparison between Sunline and Melody Belle. Surely?

The Track at Trentham today an absolute disgrace. Very shifty on top an riders who got wide rewarded.MB second slowest time in about 50 yrs. Riccarton much the same. If they are going to water there science is wrong.

Tears born of very obvious physical distress Gruff which I suspect was due to savage wasting regime (couldn't make 56.5 in previous race and replaced) to ride the mare. To my mind a very dangerous situation and RIU may be better making sure jockeys are fit to ride by tests beyond scurrying around with urine sample jars to test how many liquid carbs they had the night before

  24. Totally agree Griffin. Eventually public opinion will cause the change. It would be great if Aotearoa New Zealand showed the way, and vision, by doing it now, but I can’t see that happening.

  25. Unfortunately there is a culture around being boys on the town in the racing industry generally. Seen it so many times over the years - booze, women, etc etc. I remember being at the Racecourse Hotel late one night watching a World Cup Rugby match after the third day of the Cup Carnival and two prominent jockeys put their drinks on our table and proceeded to roll around on the floor fighting each other - totally off their heads. The amazing bit was when I got up after midday the next day one of them had already ridden a winner at a Central North Island race meeting ! Now I am not knocking the behaviour at a base level - hell I've got shocking form in that regard myself. But against the background of all that has gone on in the harness industry surely you would be pulling your head in ???

  27. Interesting that the Stipes report confirms that a CAUCASIAN male was arrested by the Police. Police 10-Seven has stopped describing criminals as Maori/Polynesian so NZTR needs to get with the woke times and stop stigmatising and stereotyping descendants of european settlers who may happen to get lost on the finishing straight at Trentham.
