Pembrook Playboy was last at the 400. What a finish. A lot of drivers would have given up. Well done Nate. Brilliant drive.3 points -

Youre about as silly as the personnel at NZTR that get rid of race meetings at venues and then put 10+ race meetings on at tracks with inadequate facilities (not enough tie ups , stalls etc) and expect the industry to just deal with it. Now you think stables can just up and take a small team and race them somewhere else on a whim, travelling hours or days at a time. Have you not been reading what is going on in Aus? So who works all the horses left at home? Who feeds them, holds them when the farrier is there, changes their rugs etc etc etc? You do realise that young horses don't break themselves in , teach themselves to gallop and learn to go through the gates on their own? But youre calling out stables as moaners and doomsayers cause they haven't got the time or operationally its not possible to do what youre suggesting ...pleeeassssse! The industry is already struggling enough for adequate staff without listening to delusional thinking like this. Now you think people have a choice where they train, so the poor guy that trains at Waimate can just sell up and move to Cambridge its that easy is it?2 points

Covid positives, several being the new "more deadly" variant, running at 5-6 per day in MIQ and still no deaths for months at the hands of this Deadly virus. Certainly not wishing that to happen but either we have the greatest medical facilities in the world (wouldn't be able to confirm as none of these positives hospitalised) or we are being lied to about the danger. Marxist control at it's finest.2 points

Why don't you ask for 20 selections, then you have a sure fire First Four.1 point

According to 100 1, there was to be “a military takedown on Thursday”. We are supposed to enjoy the show. Was he referring to an Ex-Pres Trump arrest? None of 100 1 prophecies have come to fruition so what I’d like to see 100 1 do is give me 10 selections that he predicts will fight out the finish of this years Melb Cup. If he does that, I can safely rule a line through his 10 selections and concentrate on the remaining chances1 point

Yes yes yes! The day has come. WHERE'S DONALD? t-shirts are sold out. Seriously, this must be the best day in the history of the USA! Only to be usurped sometime in the future when the scumbag Donald J Trump draws his final breath. Think I'll go fishing for the day. Might catch me a kraken or two1 point -

There you go Crusty Grizzler. Five years and 308 pages of posts later it's finally over. I hope your happy ? Surely it must be a record. Back in 2016 you titled the thread "Trump written off." Now at the beginning of 2021, he finally has been!!!1 point -

A vintage Test Series right up until the final overs. By the end I couldn't help but cheer an Indian victory. With all there brave, fresh-faced young guns, standing up to a battering from the big angry Aussies, it was like a Hollywood script. I can't wait for the 30-30 documentary on the Series.1 point -
Must be tough for Southern Trainers

Just being silly now.....obviously 35 of scratchings were ballots and/or double acceptors....add a few wide draws ,plus change of track conditions . Very adequate field size .....met the industry average......130 horses raced during the day. For mikenz benefit i w il l e x p l ai n.......d o ub l e a c c e p tor and b a l l o t s m e a n n o h o r s e s m i s s e d s t a r t ! As for the South Island I been following a few 'maiden' stayers who have had their fair share of opportunities since racing resumed. McGowan made my cup week ,where stayers had plenty of opportunities then Cromwell ,Asburton , Gore ,Southland, even Reefton .....so many maidens. Check the history of Eisenhower and Super Tap and see their racing records....sure a bit of travel involved.Supertap has now won twice ! This time last year we had a maiden stayer in North and in the end had to race at Ruakaka adding $600 to travel costs.....no paying back to last then.We actually won about $6k before deductions and expenses....in the terrible field we faced ,and beat , only one horse has won since and that was at Greymouth ! Maiden staying fields tend to be of poor quality and generally attract poor betting. They are often 'slugs' with no turn of foot or as in the South , North Island rejects. But as the above mention Southern horses records show ,trainers are prepared to travel......its their choice where they have their stables and the ones who plan find a way eg they travel when they can work out how to get a couple of races in the one trip away. And MPitman up to recently would house horses at Waikouaiti to assist logistics . They don't cry , they create ! NZ owners are very resillient. Then there was the Waimate trainer who bought a couple of cheap horses off Gavelhouse ,potential jumpers ,so when lockdown wiped Southern jumping they took their 2 x horses up to Cambridge for a couple of months and had several wins and placings on both flat and jumping. They got moving...didn't sit at home a moan....poor me...we're doomed , there's no races for us !1 point -
what about making it on ability...they've got plenty of that arsetralia couldnt bowl them out on a fifth day wicket twice even after the sledging and endless short pitched rubbish, and India didnt even have a really scary hahahaka to help them out credit where its due. well done India1 point

With basically the first lot of 2yo races starting out now why don’t hrnz change the season to a calendar year . As it stands now 2yos really only have half a year of the their season and even then the feilds are generally small as not many are ready by then1 point

Have just been advised by Amati that the B Norman trotter referred to above is in fact a 3yr old starting today at Winton. Named Sacred Mountain. How it got to run in an unqualified 2 yr old heat is another Southern mystery1 point

The fields are through for the opening Meydan Carnival meeting on Thursday. The Singspiel Stakes is a Group 2 over 1800m on the turf. 11 have been declared with five running under the Godolphin banner. Frankie Dettori is on the 4-y-o MILITARY MARCH who won both as a juvenile and on his only outing as a 3-y-o was fourth to KAMEKO in the 2000 Guineas. That's as good as it gets and a reproduction of that will do. MILITARY MARCH is top rated at 113 and old LORD GLITTERS is off 112. The latter is a reliable old stick and was third in the Dubai Turf in 2019. Whether he's quite up to that level now is debatable. ZAKOUSKI won the Group 2 Meydan Mile in the spring and ended his British campaign with two wins in the autumn mud at Newmarket. Again, he's a useful type but if MILITARY MARCH is on top form, he's running for minor money. The other Group 2 is the first round of the Al Maktoum Challenge over 1600m on the Dirt. CAPEZZANO is clear top rated and he bolted up in a Group 3 over course and distance last year before not coping with the big boys in either the Saudi Cup or the World Cup. There's a mix of regulars such as MILITARY LAW and KIMBEAR and into the mix comes Uruguayan Group 1 winner AJUSTE FISCAL who could be anything though I suspect the 1600m will be short enough. The undercard features a 1200m Group 3 named after Dubawi. GOOD EFFORT has won three at Lingfield on the Polytrack but over further and I just wonder if he has the speed and I'm more interested in UPPER CLASS who as a southern hemisphere 3-y-o gets the allowances - he's won three in Uruguay over 1100m and this could be right up his street. Back in the UK, Saturday's Grade 1 at Ascot is the Clarence House Chase over 3200m.The ground is currently Soft but there's a lot of rain forecast this week so it could easily be Heavy on Saturday. 10 have been entered but three stand out - POLITOLOGUE benefitted from ALTIOR's absence to win the Tingle Creek and has plenty of form at Ascot. WAITING PATIENTLY is a fascinating runner - in the 2019 Tingle Creek, POLITOLOGUE was fifth and WAITING PATIENTLY a close third to DEFI DI SEUIL (of whom more anon). After more than a year off, WAITING PATIENTLY returned at last month's King George and ran a blinder finishing a close second to FRODON. Will he bring a similar level of form on Saturday? If he can. he should win but first run after a long break and then out four weeks later - it's a concern but a fast run 3200m on a stiff track might play to his strengths. Then we have DEFI DU SEUIL who, following his 2019 Tingle Creek win, won this and went off favourite for the Champion Chase only to run a disappointing fourth to POLITOLOGUE (see above). Back at Cheltenham, DEFI DU SEUIL ran a shocker pulling up in a Grade 2. He's on a real recovery mission. FIRST FLOW has progressed through handicaps and won the Grade 2 Castleford at Wetherby over Christmas. With one or two questions about the top three, he looks a decent each way bet at 10s assuming we get eight or more runners.1 point

Must be tough for Southern Trainers

Different world in the NI Tasman. No way in the wide, wide world would you ever see the 36 scratchings already listed for Waikato maidens and 65s tomorrow at any Southern meeting. Hardly anyone ever scratches out of a race if they get a start in the South. The powers that be hate running ten races in the South, but 11 is no trouble in the North. Hardship in the North is a Waikato trained maiden having to travel all the way to Tauranga to start in an 8 horse field because they can't get a start closer to home. As Dingle mentioned, the only way for him to get a start with his maiden stayer is to travel 8 hours to Riccarton.1 point -
