The whole programming system is a mess. Had a 65 horse who never got a start at 5 meetings. Got a maiden stayer who last raced at riverton on 1st jan, Nothing coming up til ascot, so gave horse a bit of let up only to be told the day before noms that they are including a maiden 1600at wingatui .. Too bloody late to get horse up to racing.. Only one maiden race at gore. Where oh where do we get a go.

Different world in the NI Tasman. No way in the wide, wide world would you ever see the 36 scratchings already listed for Waikato maidens and 65s tomorrow at any Southern meeting. Hardly anyone ever scratches out of a race if they get a start in the South. The powers that be hate running ten races in the South, but 11 is no trouble in the North. Hardship in the North is a Waikato trained maiden having to travel all the way to Tauranga to start in an 8 horse field because they can't get a start closer to home. As Dingle mentioned, the only way for him to get a start with his maiden stayer is to travel 8 hours to Riccarton.

Pain ,the Aussie Cricket captain which is considered most IMPORTANT job in Australia , got the job after the disgraceful sandpaper cheating not so long ago. His vision and stated purpose was to bring a little decorum to the position and improve the behaviour etc etc. Yesterday Iron Gloves Paine dropped several catches and reverted to what Aussies know and do best.....insults and sledging and trying to bully the Umpires into making decisions to help their cause.....an utter disgrace ! Meanwhile the Sandpaper plotter S.Smith was seen interfering with the Indian crease markings and ultimately the playing surface...a few days after being dubiously being awarded some honour as a 'player of the Decade'. The Pfizer vaccine does not offer immediate immunity. Indeed, Pfizer themselves claim only 52% immunity by Day 12 and there have bene examples in the UK of older people getting the first vaccination, contracting Covid and dying. The problem is the triumphalism around vaccinations up here obscures the truth you aren't really protected with just one Pfizer vaccination or indeed one Oxford-Astra Zeneca vaccination (60% protection). Pfizer recommend a second vaccination 21 days after the first and their tests show seven days after the second vaccination, immunity is at 95%. The British Government is going with some "controversial" research from the JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation) which claimed on New Year's Eve immunity from a single Pfizer vaccination was 70% by Day 15 and 90% by Day 21. That research has been questioned in some quarters but since the Chief Medical Officer supported it (or was told to support it by Boris), the policy is to vaccinate everybody just the once. This is in my view lunacy - the current fall in cases (not matched by deaths or hospitalisations) is as much the result of lockdown restrictions as an effective vaccination programme. The populist Boris Johnson wants the media to show how many people are being vaccinated as a way of supporting his Government electorally. The fact they are doing a half-arse job and some of those who thought they were safe having been vaccinated may well die is negligent arguably criminally so.

Seems a bit rough on you.......unfair . When did your 65 horse get balloted at 5 meetings ,assuming you mean on the trot ? Recently? Cos since racing recommenced after lockdown there seems to have been a real effort to ' be fair'. And cos of the conservative budgets for betting , race programmes often made for 8 races when often 10 end up being carded because the code distributions have been exceeding the budgets. I know I have a share in a couple of maidens which have had no trouble getting a start when races are added after huge nominations. I refer to North Island.

Harness racin, oh man there's nothin like it, when they turn for home and they give it full bore woooeee tiz a sight to behold far from borin, yuh just gotta understand what your're lookin at; from the time they hit the ground, begin to grow, to their first time away to a stables, then their first race night, months/years of slog (and bills) and then, here it is 'race night' they're tuned and tweaked to give their best if allowed, and when they do, it's magic mate bloody magic....their effort, power and sheer beauty as the awesome athletes they are is second to none, I love em.....nah I don't bet mate, only as a weapon I might chuck in I reckon they're doin enough to entertain with sheer effort, without carryin me and my $20 too......hell, I even cheer like crazy when I'm watchin em at home, specially if we're racin the aussies or americans etc..... I put the below in my Northern Hemisphere thread on the Thoroughbred Cafe page: Sad news today with the passing of Prince Khalid Abdullah at the age of 83. Prince Khalid was one of the most significant owner-breeders of the past 40 years. He established Juddmonte who rivals Coolmore and Godolphin as top racing and breeding operations. Prince Khalid owned some wonderful horses such as KNOWN FACT and of course OASIS DREAM, one of the foundation stallions at Banstead Manor Stud. He owned arguably the two greatest horses of the modern era - DANCING BRAVE, the 1986 Derby and Arc winner and of course FRANKEL, the best horse of the 21st Century so far. FRANKEL's exploits need no repeating here and it's worth remembering the vintage 2012 Royal Ascot meeting where the wonderful BLACK CAVIAR strutted her stuff but FRANKEL stole the show with an 11-length demolition of a class field in the Queen Anne which remains the best performance I've seen on a racecourse in the past thirty years. More recently, he owned dual Arc winner ENABLE. I believe one of his sons, Prince Saud, may take on the racing business. Juddmonte currently has 250 horses in training round the world, a further 500 at its various stud operations and employs 250 people. Douglas Erskine-Crum, the CEO of Juddmonte, was interviewed on TV on Saturday afternoon and made it clear the operation would continue. Apparently the grandchildren are all racing fans so it seems very likely Juddmonte will continue for some while. While I obviously think about the UK angle, it would be remiss of me to forget to mention ARROGATE who carried the Juddmonte silks to success in the Dubai World Cup and the inaugural Pegasus. Unfortunately, he passed away last year. I'd also be remiss not to mention DANEHILL as one of the other great stallions from Juddmonte.
