Thing I really like about Michael is his ability to find gaps in the straight without coming home via the Cape. I think he is a patient rider and seems to sit very still on his mounts....I think he is a very good rider AND often his mounts when they salute, are value.

I just don't follow - he admitted the breach; a penalty was handed down (and to my knowledge not appealed by either side at the time); the penalty has been served... so what's the hold up? Has there been an incident since the penalty that has aggravated matters? Because everything that came before - all the good and less good about CWJ - it was all known when they determined the penalty...

Appalling behaviour really from NZTR. Talk about shoot yourself in the foot. For a dysfunctional and poorly run industry here they are with a superstar in their midst and they have never made the most of it. NZTR may not miss Chris when he has gone, but I'm sure many others will. If it was any of the more favoured jockeys going for that record I'm sure there would be media coverage all over it. I just hope he finally cracks it at a track that actually appreciates him. I can't help thinking Kiwi Ida would have done a lot better on its North island tour if CWJ had been able to ride her. She put up some massive runs with no luck.

  6. Agree. I forgot to post on Weds, but got the trifecta in real life. Last night, remembered to post, got four home but of course, didn't back them. Except for Brooklyn Hustle, which I backed for a place. Came fourth..... Comedy.

I’m sure Zak watched the first at the Valley tonite. No doubt tucking into his dessert - a decent chunk of humble pie! Michael had only two rides tonite - the other was $150/1. So a 50% success rate for the night. Will be the best strike rate for the night I’d guess. Have another serve of HP Zac

Well just rode Irish Flame a treat , and i didn't have a bet . C Williams just sat back too long on a nothing speed , does that make him worse as terrible . Mick Price uses him all the time , i know who's opinion i respect . Won too many big races over there to be saying he's terrible , don't know what that would make some of the rest .

  14. Have to say this year's Cox Plate is underwhelming. Would have preferred to see Verry Ellegant tackle this race rather than Caulfield Cup. Her turn of foot and ability to make ground while cornering would have been dynamite at MV.

  15. Ever since the loss of Peter Early to the Northern greyhound calling ranks we have seen the use of two callers in George Simon and Aaron White with them doing Cambridge and Manakau respectively but sometimes due to other commitments but swap in for each other. Aaron is great with the form and often finds dogs at nice prices and understands how a race works. His commentary's are a breath of fresh air he provides a rundown on where every dog once and then summarizes a couple up the top all those with chances of winning and then calls the winner home and sometimes gives a Tony Lee spiel around the winner (love it!) Do we think he is better than Peter? he's better at the Greys than the harness

  22. Rosie Myers communicating with family By NZ Racing Desk - October 23, 2020 Share Rosie Myers. Photo: Trish Dunell Injured jockey Rosie Myers has shown significant improvement on Thursday with husband William Fell saying she was talking to family and understanding what was happening around her. Rosie was injured following a fall at the Foxton trials on 6 October and was initially flown to Wellington hospital in an induced coma. The popular Central Districts jockey was moved out of ICU last weekend and then on to Lower Hutt hospital where she had undergone facial surgery on Tuesday. Until yesterday morning, the 33-year-old had not communicated verbally with family members. William said that while she was “just like Rosie” the fact her face was still swollen and sore she wasn’t easy to understand, however he said she did appear to understand what had happened. “It’s obviously early days but all going well Rosie will go to the Rehab unit either Friday or Tuesday,” William said. “It’s just good to know we are going in the right direction – she is tough!” William said he was planning to share a video from industry participants with Rosie later today. The video came together thanks to Rosie’s good friend Sophie Baker who encouraged people to video their best wishes under the banner #youvegotthisrosie. The team at LOVERACING.NZ then compiled the messages into a video to be shared with Rosie, a short version of the video can be seen on the LOVERACING.NZ Facebook page.

  24. All eight stand in Sunday's Royal Oak at Longchamp where the ground is Heavy. PRINCESS ZOE won the 4000m Cadran on Arc weekend and that was a brutal slog so this 3000m race will seem like a sprint. I reckon she's improved 40 lbs since winning a handicap back in June and she may well go in again but I prefer Chaudenay winner VALIA whose second to WONDERFUL TONIGHT in the Minerve at Deauville now looks top class form. The Group 2 Conseil de Paris over 2200m is an interesting end of season race. NAGANO GOLD is probably the best horse in Eastern Europe - in 2019 he ran second in the Hardwicke at Ascot and he started this campaign with a fine second in the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud. He was third to ANTHONY VAN DYCK in the Foy and last time won at Sluzewiec which as we all know is Poland's foremost racecourse. The race he won is Poland's biggest race known in English as the Great Warsaw Race over 2600m. BARON SAMEDI represents Joseph O'Brien but he's won handicaps so far and I like SOFT LIGHT who was sixth in last year's Arc and MARE AUSTRALIS, a lightly raced type from the Fabre yard.

The Cox Plate is run at a very early breakfast time (UK) tomorrow morning. With MAGIC WAND taken out, the European challenge is down to three. ARMORY would be the best of these if you could take his Irish Champion form literally. He was a couple of lengths between multiple Group 1 winners MAGICAL and GHAIYYATH and just in front of the Arc winner SOTTSASS. Take that literally and he wins this but I'm far from convinced. We also know he prefers quicker ground so any rain would be a detriment. ASPETAR has form on all grounds and he's the most interesting of the remaining European runners. He stays further and won a Group 2 nicely last time at York to put him on a mark of 116 which is borderline European Group 1 so 14/1 looks a big each way price. My slight concern is when he went to Sha Tin last year he ran poorly but at the price and with a decent draw I think he'll be thereabouts against what doesn't look the strongest renewal. BUCKHURST has come into the race as a reserve. He wasn't beaten far in the Caulfield Cup and beat SIR DRAGONET in a Group 3 earlier this season yet the latter is 10/1 while BUCKHURST is 25/1 so make of that what you will. I'd question any softer ground with him as well. Of the locals, I think PROBABEEL looks the one.

    Michael Walker

You’re either a bit harsh in your comments or ignorant but certainly a bit unfair. To say that “ he’s terrible” is certainly unfair. The reason he wins quite a number of big races is not only his undoubted ability as a rider but more importantly, being put on the right horse. If he’s on a horse that’s good enough he has a great strike rate. Over the last 3 or 4 years he’s had some big wins when given the right horse. Two Australian Cups, Caul Guineas, One Thousand Guineas, Blue Diamond, etc. He doesn’t seem to align himself to one Stable as his main source. Unlike for example, Bowman and JMAC who are in the Waller camp mainly, Michael should have camped himself in a big stable and stayed loyal to it as his No 1 source of rides. Either Hayes, Mick Price etc. a bit like Luke Currie who rides for anyone but is first call for Tony McEvoy, or, Luke Nolan/Peter Moody, Baylee Nothdorp/Tony Gollan etc etc. I think that’s Michael’s biggest drawback - for whatever reason.

Here's the statement: We did not like the penaltyissued by the Judicial Committee, but nevertheless did not appeal it, preferring instead to take a more vague and disingenuous route of suspending his licence because that is something we feel we can do without any independent oversight."

Are you kidding me? Walker is terrible... None of the top trainers are using him anymore does that tell you anything? If he doesn't get them out of the gates fast enough he will sit three or four wide not thinking about how much extra ground the horse will have to cover and when he gets to the straight he riding it furiously to try and get it to respond and ends up running out of steam at around the 200. Take it back and run on. He's OK at Sale and Benalla but not at Caulfield if he wins a big race it will be for a top trainer who won the race and not him

On today’s ZB 8.30am News Chris is seeking legal advice and consulting a doctor who specialises in alcohol problems in an effort to get his licence back. He needs eight more wins to eclipse David Walsh’s record win total. According to NZTR and the RIU he is not at present “fit for purpose” to hold a Jockey’s Licence. Seems like a Mexican standoff. I hope it can be resolved sooner rather than later.

Fine run by LE DON DE VIE from the front and also by ASHRUN who was doing all his best work late on and will be very interesting in the Cup. SKYWARD ran okay but faded in the final 150m and he'll need to improve a lot from that and SAN HUBERTO never got involved.
