  3. I read Berri's succinct piece yesterday morning and it has troubled me for 24 hours. We cannot see any hope of racing progressing in our country whilst the Jackson Street, Petone outfit is run by clowns who know as much about racing as the average Morrinsville Mormon. Those clowns cannot differentiate between a novice hurdle at Market Razen and the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe. None of the clowns would know how many teats there are on a mare's udder. Showing racing from the back blocks of Uruguay merely demeans our betting markets. This matter is depressing me. And Judith Collins talks about getting better appointees. Leave the choice of appointees to the Clubs. They are better at sorting the oats from the chaff.

  6. Decided to see the odd for the Arc this evening in France. Has a squizz at Stradivarius. Saw they had him as a 4 year old gelding. Then looked at Enable...guess what?...she's also a 4yo gelding. No sire, no dam. no anything!!! Come on TAB. This is only the best championship race in Europe. Why isn't there anyone who cares enough to get this stuff right? It's the most basic of basic. Aren't we trying to promote betting?

    Matamata Cup?

It was changed as part of the calendar put together during lockdown, along with stuff like moving the Northland Breeders and the Awapuni Metric Mile around. It'll only be for this season, and go back to normal next season, according to that same era of documents. Seems a bit strange now, but it was a whole different world but then I suppose. I'm not a big fan that it creates so many similar black type 1400m races so close together (the 1400 at NP, Matamata, Hasting next sat, and to some smaller extent the mares at Hawera) when there are so few black type opportunities over that distance later in the season. The race seems to have held up pretty well in any case.

  12. I'll reflect on the weekend just gone over the next few days but a heads up for the coming weekend. Newmarket stages Future Champions Weekend with meetings on Friday and Saturday. The ground has dried slightly to Soft after the weekend deluge but more rain is forecast in the coming week. Friday sees the Fillies' Mile over 1600m, a Group 1 and the Challenge Stakes, yet another 1400m Group 2. The former has drawn 16 entries and the exciting INDIGO GIRL is early favourite. Saturday sees the juvenile championship race for the colts, the Dewhurst, over 1400m. 18 have been entered and it looks, as we say up there, a belter. Joint favourites at 5/2 are National Stakes winner THUNDER MOON and Champagne Stakes winner CHINDIT but I'll talk more about this during the week. In France, we have the Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte which is now run at Chantilly, a Group 2 over 1200m for the juveniles,

Whether it is 10-12 horses or 20-25 it is an extrordinary effort with that size string (that I was unaware of).

  14. disclaimer: bred to him, not a shareholder or affiliated. I think his performance as a racehorse beats a lot standing in both NZ and AU. Early days as a sire - Lope de Vega proven upgrader. Danehill and Nijinsky in bottom line should be a bonus. hes a strong type, perhaps a volksraad type replacement to kick off a mare with an early runner reliably (and more) I think he is currently overlooked in the Australian consciousness at the moment, with his achilles heal being proving performance on dry tracks - but who knows. A couple of his group wins were on rain affected tracks so far. i note the fillies can and do run, making it easier to sell a filly as a breeder. Colts no doubt will follow with one winning at Salisbury and two placing at Riccarton included a colt running 2nd in the CJC Nobby Bussell Memorial 2YO S., NZ$22500 800m earning NZ$3375 some of us remember Nobby. it’s hard to argue that three individual stakes winners in a short time In his first year at stud, is nothing short of VERY GOOD indeed.

  15. I also rate Sunline & Probabeel ahead of Melody Belle on the international stage. But for any horse to win 11 GR.1's would 100% place them into history books as one of the best ! .....Melody Belle is certainly that

I don't see what the issue is. She was one of the leading trainers at Awapuni so obviously had more than 12 although like most trainers the number varies. The point I was making was looking back at the previous NZ trainer to win the Epsom also won the Turnbull the same day.

Another green / labour f up . Here we go again incredible stupidity , this is just the same as California , Australia and now NZ , it's early spring , snow on the hills . The Lake Ōhau fire could have been avoided if the Department of Conservation (DOC) managed high country land better, farmers say. But DOC says fireproofing conservation land is “largely unachievable”. In a statement, Federated Farmers high country chair Rob Stokes said it was not even fire season and already nearly 50 homes and more than 5000 hectares of land had been damaged since fire erupted at Lake Ōhau, . "In August we had the Pukaki Downs fires, also burning through DOC land, and now just weeks later another fire, again burning through DOC land. Both these fires were entirely avoidable. Grazing in those areas had previously reduced the fire risk significantly by controlling wilding pines and grasses, he said. "There is simply no science to support destocking. Now people have lost their homes because of mismanagement by DOC." In a statement, DOC operations manager Karina Morrow said allowing grazing on public conservation land would have “a significant negative impact on the native species”. WELL THE FIRE CERTAINLY WILL HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON NATIVE SPECIES , human native species as well . DO you really want the greens to be a dominator/controller of labour in government , a disaster in the making .

I never knew that fact about Margaret Bull, very interesting. I think Jamie Richards has taken Te Akau training to a new level of success, particularly in Australia. He does a great job, is young and can break a lot of records. It is also true that not every trainer in NZ gets 50 new Karaka 1 horses every year. There are many trainers in NZ that would have only seen a Savabeel at the track.

Before one starts going off on how great the Te AKau achievement was on Saturday worth mentioning that the last time a NZ trainer won the Epsom was was Margaret Bull in 1985 with Magnitude. On the same day she also took out the Turnbull Stakes in Melbourne with Lacka Reason. You couldn't really compare Margaret Bull to Jamie Richards. I doubt she would have had more than a dozen horses in her stable. In fact Chris Waller would be mighty proud doing that double.

What about the Bussutin/Young Team? Came to Australia to have a good old fashion go, are making a big name for themselves and yesterday are rewarded with the wins in the G1 Metropolitan in Sydney and the Rose of Kingston in Melb!! Good on them. It’s a shame Marsh and Pike (to name two) don’t follow them.

    It annoys me

Watching the horses in parade ring or prelims on Trackside 1 and scrolling across the bottom of screen are numbers and names of horses from Santa Anita screening on Trackside 2. ffS if we wanted to see those names we would switch to Trackside 2 when watching NZ races on Trackside 1 we want to see the names and numbers of the horses that are on screen !

  30. It was $100 per person entry into a comp where you select a horse in each race at Hastings tomorrow. Points allocated and prize money then distributed to the three top points scorers. If there is a technical breach so be it and they need to comply. But I've seen large sums change hands at calcuttas at various venues, raffles, betting syndicates and sporting pick comps for years and years and no-one bats an eyelid. To shut down the FB group with thousands of members, go public to the Press and for the DIA to do all of this without contacting the Group .... beggars belief.

  31. Justifying this action on the basis it reduces revenue for the TAB is a crock. Firstly the participants probably pay more attention to the Hastings fields (in this case) than normal when they make their picks. A significant proportion will be following their picks via the TAB and betting on them. Secondly BGP has brought more turnover to the TAB than most other developments in recent years I would guess. I accept that doesn't justify a breach of law if there is one here. But for goodness sake let's not have anyone posting here talking about the $9k deductions foregone by the TAB

I'd like to know their viewpoints on the demise of New Zealand founded company Glaxo now known as GlaxoSmithKline and why it is now so focused on vaccines when it was set up expressly to provide Nutrious Milk and other products for those living in far harsher times than we will ever experience, that of poverty stricken and malnourished people to provide nutrients for survival. How many of you recall Milk Biscuits? Glaxo https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers?snippet=true&query=Glaxo They are far more nutritous to all than a pill, or injection. Be mindful the last 20 or so years how much the company has changed and been involved in Bribery & Corruption since Shangai, Hong Kong was taken from British Governance
