  1. Were talking to mate of mine about The Good Old Days of racing in the 60's and 70's when going to the races was a great day out .With big crowds and a huge atmosphere making you want to be part of the action ,picking winners and screaming the place down .Now I got to thinking its been a long time since we enjoyed those times . When you go to the pub for a beer it doesn't matter what you talk about after a couple of minutes someone will always start on about Covid FFS. So a just thought for a change do you remember what was the best day you and your mates have had at the races ? What was your best win? when you screamed the house down pissing everyone off around you .In recent years going to the races seams very subdued compared to those days when punters were larger than life . One of our big collects in the mid 70's was we backed Purple Pearl in the Great Northern Guineas to beat Balmerino brilliant ride by Warrick Robinson keeping Balmerino jammed up on the fence we were yelling all the way up the straight and back over to the old Garden bar behind the old tote .A great day and nite ,the good old days great memories , Cheers BH

  2. 1- Do you believe it is in the best interests of Harness Racing & transparency that a CEO is appointed without proper process, ie opening up the recruitment process to others with appropriate skills.? And if so why. 2- Will you be producing a vision statement for where you want Harness Racing to be in 2 years, 5 years & 10 years time? 3-Will you be producing a plan outlining how you are going to reverse the decline in Harness market share of wagering to the other racing codes? 4- Will you be outlining a plan to increase overall betting on Harness to increase revenues, thus increasing stakes. Anyone in senior governance roles should be doing this & if they can’t they should resign now.

@tripple alliance There's a couple with thick glasses, Nick Wilson & Mike G Baker, red/ pink is Siouxie Wiles, all tied in with WHO, Wiles went to Imperial College London & has in the past been funded by Bill Gates who she probably thinks should fund her for life bc of course they are paid handsomely without any real accountability, until we all came along & started asking questions wtf is going on. There's plenty of background info tucked in here & online about them so won't repeat it. Let's just say, with the internet there needs to be a Wake Up call how students at university operate as it's far too easy to copy & paste each others works world wide, in our day it was called "Cheating". Ditto Gvts and others can no longer hide behind closed doors as it's all somewhere on record.

Talkback Hosts Slam the Covid Queen and her Government By CS Talkback hosts have been fielding hostile calls all week. Little wonder that they’ve been damning in their weekly columns. Heather du Plessis-Allan is scathing of the government in her column: The Government’s decision to extend Auckland’s level 3 lockdown is a massive disappointment. Worse, it is a failure: a failure by authorities to properly prepare New Zealand for the inevitable return of Covid. The disease was always going to come back. We’ve seen that across the world: Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Victoria. If that was a given – and it was – why didn’t authorities spend every minute since the last lockdown preparing the country so we wouldn’t need another one? Those 102 days of no community transmission were days we bought for them with the first lockdown. Kiwis paid for it with their jobs, their businesses, their mental health, and other immeasurable costs. The Employers and Manufacturers Association’s Brett O’Riley says “the business community have done their part … and it’s only a reasonable expectation that every precaution is taken at the border to ensure that this virus is contained”. We did our part. Why didn’t they do theirs? Good question. She continues: This week we watched health authorities fail at virtually every task. They didn’t have enough testing stations, they didn’t have enough PPE for nurses (again), and, in a mind-blowingly stupid twist, we discovered they weren’t testing all border workers to stop them bringing it into New Zealand. … Lockdowns should not be the go-to option. They should be the last resort. They are too expensive. They cost people’s livelihoods, their jobs and their businesses. This is not an objection to the attempts to prevent Covid’s spread. It is an objection to health authorities having no option but nuclear, because they weren’t ready for something they knew would happen. It is an objection to the failure of those authorities and the ministers in charge of them to prepare the safeguards to prevent another lockdown. We had more than three months without community transmission. It cost Kiwis so much to make that possible. Why didn’t authorities use that time to prepare for the inevitable? How many more times will they need to put us into expensive lockdowns to buy them time? We can’t keep doing this. The damage is worse each time. Kerre McIvor is similarly hostile: … it hasn’t been a great week for the Prime Minister and the Director General. They must have known from last time that people would demand to be tested once Covid was in the community but there weren’t nearly enough testing stations and the poor staff were simply overwhelmed. It was also revealed this week that 63 per cent of frontline border security and quarantine staff have yet to be tested for Covid. It seems farcical that with all this banging on about saying yes to the test, we’re not screening the very people who are in contact with freshly returned Kiwis. Add that to the misinformation about PPE gear and the flu vaccines and you’d have to say that there have been some major stuff-ups from the Government and the Health Department. But dare to say that, should you have the temerity to so much as murmur a criticism of the PM and the faithful turn on you. The people mobilising to defend the ‘Covid Queen’ are hardly practising kindness either, with some of them wishing violent harm to those of us who raise valid questions about failures. When did we all get so binary and, in some cases, bats*** crazy? Those who worship at the Church of St Jacinda and the Holy Bloomfield are blind to any wrongs or failings of their demigods. You simply cannot have a free and frank exchange of views with some people – it’s like the Springbok tour all over again. If you dare to suggest the Government has made mistakes, the acolytes cast you into the camp of the conspiracy theorists who are alive and well and fomenting their madness all across social media. They – the acolytes and the tinfoil hat-wearers – are blind to reason and rationale. When I express incredulity that border security staff aren’t being routinely tested, that doesn’t mean I think that Ashley Bloomfield has the mark of the beast on his forehead. When Sandra Goudie, the Thames Coromandel Mayor, said she was annoyed that the PM announced a lockdown but put police on the borders only 15 hours after the announcement, thus allowing Aucklanders to flee to their baches for the duration of the lockdown, that doesn’t mean she believes the PM is an evil person with a hidden agenda to turn New Zealand into a communist country. When Professor Des Gorman says the Government has been too reactive and too partisan when dealing with Covid, he’s not saying the virus is being introduced back into the community by government agents. He’s expressing a considered opinion that has some merit. When did people get so rabid and lacking in nuance? Covid hasn’t just robbed us of our freedoms; it’s robbed us of our senses. I’m not sure Jacinda Ardern will be happy with her election plans being upset in such a dramatic manner. The anger on the streets of Auckland is palpable, and that will be coming off the government’s support. They were so high in the polls, now the only way is down. They thought they were going to march to glory. Now it appears they’ll be dragged from their offices in ignominy.

  6. Dear Valued Owner, Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Friday regarding COVID-19 alert levels we wanted to take the opportunity to update you about what this will mean to you as an owner on race day. We understand the frustration experienced by owners when they have planned to watch their horse race in person and are unable to do so. NZTR, along with club representatives and having also referenced procedures in Australia, is developing a template with the aim of having owners on-course under alert level 2. Provided the club meets the requirements which adhere to the government’s alert level 2 protocols regarding gatherings, it is anticipated that owners will be permitted on-course. However, owners will be expected to pre-register with the club prior to race day, following the instructions in their Owners Letter from NZTR. In cases where clubs are unable to safely accommodate owners the meeting will be run as “closed door” meetings with only essential race day personnel on course. After discussions with the club it has been decided the 19 August meeting at Taupo will be conducted as a “closed door” meeting, with no owners permitted. In the case of trials and jump outs these will be run as “closed door” events as a precautionary measure. NZTR is determined to ensure racing continues and, accordingly, is working through options which protect our participants and, where possible, will allow our valued owners on course to watch their horses. Key points: Taupo, 19 August – closed door meeting, essential race day personnel ONLY Cambridge trials, 16 August – closed door Te Teko trials, 17 August – closed door Foxton trials, 17 August – closed door Rangiora trials, 17 August – closed door Future meetings assessed against NZTR template to determine owners’ access Where club is unable to meet template standards, the meeting will be closed door Where owners are able to attend the procedure will be outlined in their Owners Letter from NZTR and pre-registration will be required.

  13. Final declarations are through for Day One of the York Ebor Festival. After heavy weekend rain, the ground has eased to Good and with an unsettled forecast through the week could ease further. The Juddmonte International over 2000m is Wednesday's feature but just five go to post with the withdrawal of ASPETAR this afternoon. Two 3-y-o take on three older horses. Starting with the youngsters and while the filly ROSE OF KILDARE won the Musidora, she's well behind these on official figures. KAMEKO has been a frustrating type - he won the Guineas at Newmarket, was fourth in the Derby and an arguably unlucky fourth in the Sussex at Goodwood. With PALACE PIER now looking the top colt miler after yesterday's win at Deauville, KAMEKO has it to prove over 2000m but it's probably his trip. Tactically, Oisin Murphy will have to be a shade more astute than he was at Goodwood. The three older horses are all in the 120s and are all quality - MAGICAL needs no introduction from me and won the Tattersalls Gold Cup last time. She's mixed it with ENABLE so taking on the boys shouldn't be a problem. She only gets 3 lbs from the colts so has it to do but she is top class and will go close. LORD NORTH came from the Brigadier Gerard to win the Prince of Wales at Ascot and that was a huge step forward putting him right in this. Finally, we have Coronation Cup and Eclipse winner GHAIYYATH. There was no denying he was superior to ENABLE at Sandown but, as the song goes, that was then and this is now. We know he loves to set the pace and we know he bounces off quick ground. York isn't a bad track for a front runner but these won't give him any rope and I just wonder if any softening of the ground will go against him. It's a race to savour - no question. Put $10 in my hand and I'd be on MAGICAL at 9/2 simply because you know she will run to the line. IF LORD NORTH goes on again from Ascot he will be very hard to beat while I think both GHAIYYATH and KAMEKO are opposable. Eight go in the main supporting race - the Voltigeur - over 2400m for the 3-y-o. It's often a Leger trial and of course CROSS COUNTER was placed in it before going onto Flemington. MOGUL won the Gordon Stakes, the equivalent of this race at Goodwood, beating HIGHLAND CHIEF and SUBJECTIVIST and is now perhaps beginning to fulfil some of the lofty ambitions held for him at Coolmore. He's entitled to be favourite but there are plenty of options - BERKSHIRE ROCCO was second to ENGLISH KING at Lingfield and then second to subsequent Irish Derby winner SANTIAGO at Ascot. We know he goes on slow ground and stays every inch of 2400m. PYLEDRIVER won the King Edward VII at Ascot and was fancied for the Derby but got lost in the confusion that day and ended up eleventh. I suspect he hated the contours of the Downs and the flat Knavesmire will suit so much better. Finally, we have the unbeaten and unexposed DARAIN who has a lot to find on the numbers but who is on the upgrade. I'm hoping for some rain and if it comes I'll back PYLEDRIVER each way at 12s as I think he's the forgotten horse of the race.

  14. DHAHABI walked out of the stalls and looked a little one-paced when finishing runner up to the more experienced SAINT LAWRENCE. The ground might not have helped either and he looks a 2400m type for next year. TEMPUS got the handicap in the stewards room after the original first past the post shifted violently right inside the final 200m. Have to say it was one of the easier ones for the stewards.

Remember the New Zealand flag debate & waste of money that was? How the Police & the rest of us were glad it was over for a variety of reasons. I bet the Police will be glad when this operation is put behind us all as they have real crimes & incidents like road crashes, murders, suicides, drug dealers etc to catch up on & deal with. Anyone heard a squeak from Police Minister Kelvin Davis recently? Didn't think so. Strange how policies change so quickly....

  19. Great work however people are all permitted to go peacefully about their lives including Freedom of Movement. The sooner it's come out in the open who has decided who is an "Essential worker" & why they still keep causing separatism the better. One could understand it if we had had a natural disaster defined under The Civil Emergency Act like floods, earthquakes or tornadoes but not the current situation of a virus more suited within the realms of the Public Health Act. It's time the Civil Emergency Act was taken out of what's going on with people's health & our Daily Covid19 updates. Anyone seen Mr Digby lately? Perhaps the Borrowdale JR & Law Society input is having an effect behind the scenes as it's an ongoing work

j c "" The chickens are now coming home to roost. The Government setting out to eliminate COVID was a huge miscalculation. This was never a realistic option. It’s on a par with their Kiwibuild pledge. The Labour politicians seem divorced from reality, even the three or four that have something resembling a brain between the ears. These people are simply not up to the task. This whole thing has been a disaster waiting to happen . The Labour-led Government have proven themselves to be completely and utterly incompetent in virtually all areas of governance. Their failures are too many to list here so I’ll concentrate on COVID. Right from the start, the woman who was given the job of running the place has used COVID primarily to further her own political ambitions." ALL TRUE and surrounded by lefty imposters and dreamers . Was watching Al Jazeera news and the guy from Dunedin , Dr or what ever , the guy with thick glasses often on our screens , so called covert expert being interviewed about covid and other issues , NZ is doing extremely well, the current out break is small and under control , Whatabout the Economy asked the interviewer Answer it's recovered really well , Yeah REALLY, 1.2 million receiving job wage support on BORROWED money , CHILD POVERTY DOUBLED , home less doubled , a record 14000 on state housing waiting list , trebled emergency food parcel distributions , rents through the roof , all this type of failure was ignored BUT WE ARE doing really well , he deserves an Oscar . Then the red head expert , it seems she's not properly qualified on the topic , her real expertise is vaguely related but she knows it all . From what I heard yesterday quoted from proven facts , in rare instances the covid incubation period can be up to 28 DAYS .

My error here. Deposits made at a TAB outlet & online are pretty much instant when you use a debit/credit card. When I responded I was thinking of the re-crediting of account withdrawal funds to a cheque or savings account. The rules say a credit card can't be used at all for this purpose. < 5 night shifts must have addled my brain more than I realised >

  24. I have a friend who raced a lot of horses and he had a contract that the trainers had to sign to get the horse. I have a few in training, the charges vary significantly, daily rates versus daily rates vary enormously. Often by location. Use of vets vary significantly as well. But all can be judged on performance verses cost. But paramount to me is honesty, if it is a slow horse, move on. No trainer can inject a motor, just expertise. Taken decades to get to this point. Best of luck to all John

Why are TAB branches closed? Is there Covid in them? They need to get a grip on Public Health Act. Only places where an Infectious disease is found get closed. Have the TAB not got QR codes on them to scan? Besides we can keep our own records where we have been however we wish to. What is it with these "financial institutions" obstructing us going about our lawful rights to deposit & withdraw our monies? Btw, our coins/ notes are legal tender & are sanitized at the bank. Be mindful that electronic transactions are been pushed onto us as a form of "Community contact tracing" by stealth. It's only time that the Director General of Public Health Dpt will get in deep sheete for breaches of Privacy. We recall banks got in trouble for that a few years ago giving police & others details out without adhering to the laws. Bring it to the attention of a member of the Legal Fraternity & add it to the list for the Law Society to raise with the Andrew Borrowdale Judicial Review & ongoing issues. This nonsense & closure of businesses & obstructing our freedom needs to stop.

    RIP Tony Prendergast

The New Zealand racing industry awoke on Monday morning to the news of the death overnight of popular Canterbury trainer Tony Prendergast, aged 84. Prendergast, who trained in partnership with his wife, Lyn, from their West Melton property, had been suffering from cancer after being diagnosed a few months ago and his death came after a shattering week for the family with their home being gutted by fire and with it the loss of all their possessions, including all their prized racing trophies and photographs. A great bloke with a superb wit about him.Trained some good horses including Hong Kong Cup winner Mr Aye Bee Greg

  37. The Fallacy of New Zealand’s Pandemic Police-State You Can't Eliminate a Virus by Waving a Police-State Truncheon By Lushington D Brady n contrast to the fawning adulation of the legacy media, venerable think-tank the American Institute for Economic Research has cast a jaundiced eye over the reign of Jacinda Ardern. Suffice to say, they’re not much impressed. For months we’ve heard the cry: oh how wonderfully New Zealand dealt with the Coronavirus! They did the tightest lockdown in the world! The coronavirus – no doubt astonished by the decisiveness and ferocity of prime minister Jacinda Ardern, the heroine of all media – just decided not to make this wonderful country a home. The virus was bested by political wit! Sunetra Gupta, a leading Oxford epidemiologist, argues that New Zealand is merely delaying the inevitable – at catastrophic economic and social cost. The tactic of “treating [COVID] like an external disaster, like a hurricane or a tsunami,” she says, is a fallacy. “As if you can batten down the hatches and it will be gone eventually. That is simply not correct”. Gupta also calls New Zealand’s “self-righteous attitude” “completely ridiculous”, comparing New Zealand to a nation of anti-vaxxers: If it turns out that the rest of the world, through herd immunity or vaccination, manages to reduce the risk of infection, then what New Zealand will have done would be tantamount to not vaccinating your own child. Just waiting for everyone else to vaccinate their children and then go “ok it’s all safe now”. By the way, she also finds New Zealand’s approach immoral, a selfish demand that the rest of the world bear the burden of herd immunity while Kiwis hide in their homes and surf the Internet. Indeed, interestingly, she regards the New Zealand policy as a violation of the global social contract — the first truly persuasive deployment of that phrase that I’ve heard. Which stands in stark contrast to Ardern’s self-serving globalist rhetoric. More importantly, Ardern’s “kindness” rhetoric is completely opposite to her authoritarian behaviour. Her upcoming election, proclaimed Ardern the Magnificent, is a “Covid election”[…]if the goal is complete banishment of the virus through an aggressive application of state power, clearly something has to be done. You can observe how much the country locked down and then opened up with a sense of false comfort, only to lock down again. Compare New Zealand’s authoritarianism to world-leading Taiwan. The BFD. The AIER also point out what I’ve long argued: Ardern has locked New Zealand into a strategy that deliberately cripples one of its most important industries. There was always an issue however. New Zealand’s economy relies directly and indirectly on international tourism for 10% of its GDP, and the industry employs 188,000 people. Would it have to end permanently, or perhaps every visitor would be subjected to testing and quarantine forever? That wouldn’t exactly be good for business. But Ardern the Wise didn’t apparently think about what happens after she personally decided to deny her entire population natural immunities to a virus that has otherwise spread all over the world. With four cases, what to do? Well, sure enough, now Ardern the Great has announced a full lockdown in the city of Auckland[…]This announcement immediately caused panic buying. Customers blasted past security to load up in preparation for a long period of disaster. That’s one way to end a dream. Camelot is now under police-state rule yet again. Road blocks. Delayed elections. After four cases! We await videos of police tackling people to the ground, commandos breaking down doors, restrictions on hoarding groceries, a brutal contact-tracing regime, fines and jails for daring to gather with friends, and all the concomitant side effects of lockdowns: drug overdoses, alcoholism, depression, and suicide. Safe is not the first word to come to mind in Ardern the Magnificent’s safespace, where cops are a greater threat to the public than Covid-19. And yet the virus will stay to vex the country. The greatest conceit of Ardern’s police-state mentality is that state power is some kind of magic truncheon that only has to be waved to make the virus go away. New Zealand, a country of earnest people who pride themselves on intelligence and good government, took the theory of virus eradication through force to an extent not seen in any developed country. It went full barbarism, pitched by a suave politician with a charming accent[…] It’s tragic what has happened to this wonderful country[…]Sadly, thanks to brutal and deeply incompetent political leadership, that paradise is lost, lost to the superstitions of the COVID faith that power, police, and adoring news coverage can scare a pathogen to go away and stay away.
