  1. I imagine the trainer is a bit dopy. Balloted in a rating 88 when it could have got a start in a maiden over the same distance. Perhaps we need an intelligence test when people apply for a trainers licence.

    Counties Transferred

Avondale - wasn't that the course they wanted to close and sell as being redundant. Not yet the new season and already needed. Masara/Peters/NZTR aren't you all clever!

The reality is Dave she made an immediate call, which people will totally respect, no 48 hour delay or suppression of facts and therein is the difference

  5. That association with such a euphemistic name was really the Bookies' Union, back in pre TAB days. I have been hearing alarming reports about bookies getting huge boosts to their turnover. Why? Because the powers that be at the TAB are making betting such an unnecessarily difficult task. Call the bookie is a damned sight easier than negotiating one's way around a self service betting terminal, which is generally clogged up with dog racing from the "back of Bourke", gallops from Uruguay, Brazil and sundry other rubbish. The turnips, that run the TAB, even have trotting run by Swedes. I wonder if the Dominion Sportsmen's Association will be revived.

  6. Apparently according to the CEO of Harness Racing they will be releasing the funding level for the 20/21 season next week. He stated that the stakes would be on par with this seasons level. I find it hard to understand how an announcement on funding levels for stakes can be made when we still haven't negotiated our share of the total distribution from RITA. Both the Thoroughbred and Greyhound codes are arguing strongly for a percentage increase in their funding levels and the both have good arguments for why they should get more. Obviously if they get a greater percentage then we get a lower percentage and the total funds available have not been increased

  7. Won after three or four starts with experience down on a much lower minimum than the 55kg tomorrow - this is a first starter - no Raceday Experience - and one trial - let’s see ...if it gets off the ballot

  9. A great read Leggy, was worth the effort. Loved the pub bookies was oh so simple, pure win bet on tote odds with limits and a $10 free bet for every $100 put through, many a great Friday nite in the public bar punting on the nite trots A superb thesis

  10. Full circle. They put TAB's into pubs to stop the money leaking to the Bookies. People want to bet but the TAB don't want to take their money.

  13. Yes, he raced in the UK at two and three. As a juvenile, he once beat THUNDER SNOW in a novice - the latter went on to win the Dubai World Cup. He ended up winning the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster so went into the winter rated 114 and a serious contender. At three, RIVET kept very good company - second to EMINENT in the Craven and third in the Poulains. I don't think he stayed the 2000m in the Jockey Club and ended his European career with a sixth to BARNEY ROY in the St James's Palace. He ended up with a rating of 115 suggesting he didn't improve much from two to three and others improved past him. On breeding you'd think the 2000m would be ideal but he was really only a miler. The truth is he hasn't won since three times as a juvenile and it'll be interesting to see if Australia provides a new start.

  14. I really can't see how the Taranaki Jockey Club could have got it wrong. From the companies office web site..... "A name change does not affect the rights or liabilities of the incorporated society, and doesn't affect legal proceedings by, or against, the society. Legal proceedings taken against the society under its former name may be continued against it under its new name"

    What is going on TAB

If you continue to bet with the NZ TAB then you need to accept what you get. Otherwise, bet elsewhere.

    Improved TAB site?

I had given up as I like to use an iPad while watching the racing on TV. But sure as anything at some point I would get the "white screen of death", a top taskbar and nothing else on the mobile app. Usually just before I went to place a winning bet, as is Murphy's 4th law on betting. I did convey this to their Support people but they suggested I use Chrome browser. I could have got more help from my young niece!. But got the same result. Re-installs, clearing caches, I went the whole mile. Probably out of technical curiosity than anything, couple d with a stubborn streak.. I opened up a Bet365 account and it worked faultlessly. The only thing it doesn't have that I liked on the TAB site was the Trifecta Running bet. So I have tinkered occasionally with my TAB account. Anyway I thing I have finally tracked down the villain in this app... the location services. You know that stupid check that I am in New Zealand and not some damn overseas person trying desperately to use their service (must be desperate or an ex-pat). Each time I installed it it would ask if I wanted to allow it use the location service: Never/Only this once/Always, and I always chose "Always" as you would. But now I installed and chose "Only this once" and although it has "white screened" twice, it always recovers by restarting the app, where it wouldn't before. I can not understand why anyone would agree this this restraint of trade by limiting the site to NZ only but with NZ Racing management I guess that just adds to the long list of idiotic decisions. With no free to Air TV, No radio, shutting down of the local TABs, you would have thought making a user friendly, available to everyone, website would have been the prime objective?? But no.

    Improved TAB site?

Absolute dog website being run by out of touch non racing people Just a very expensive fiasco and all the BS spin won't make the website anything other than what it is, a compete dog

  19. One of the structural problems has been demonstrated by latest farcical situation where too many chiefs and it is clear the people in harness racing (ie real skin in game) including the unpaid on club committees elect part only of a board that has virtually no say in direction of the industry, (some may say "just as well")but no influence on the TAB or the Transition "experts" which actually are in control. therefore the whole structure is not working as it should. I have written many letters in last 6 months , and with the exception of manawatu President (many thanks to him) have had no replies and I have used suitable restrained language. Harness racing can survive and develop as in Australia/USA/Canada/Europe. but if the Accountants keep cutting costs in Nz there will be nothing left. Humans will always gamble and enjoy the thrill of winning but growing competition is getting smarter and more visible whereas we are hiding away.

I think it is the new Computer Tax where all successful bets have a 7.5 per cent deduction to pay for the Computer cost over runs. Liken it to the 10c per litre Road tax in Auckland.
