  1. What is lacking is accountability at club level. We have seen even ARC fall into strife in the past and then through good management battle back into profitability. It is not possible to be punitive for poor decisions with a club set up but it is possible under a company structure. But there needs to be critical mass to afford even a slim corporate structure. To use the north as an example Whangarei, Auckland, Avondale, Counties.form Northern United Racing inc. Whangarei and Auckland have a management tie up already I am told. Waikato and surrounds form another company. Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa and Wellington another. Central Districts Taranaki and Taupo.. Thats the North Island. The Clubs continue and the members become B shareholders. To vote the for.directors but B shareholders are bound by the agreed constitution of the club. The main thing is the Directors now have liability under company law. Thats the stick and then there needs to be a carrot, ie an incentive to perform. Maybe even competition. Talked to a learned man recently who has vast experience and a professional background. He said if the northern clubs united and realised some land assets the rest of the countries individual clubs wouldnt be able to compete with a Strathayr track, higher staskes and even appearance money. Thats the reason why Avondale got 5 more meetings. On agreeing to engage in discussions. I know there are hard feelings of self interest and how the little guys get treated but with unity comes strength and at last democracy for them. Only small minds can stop this train to success coming down the track. If they do its oblivion for all concerned. If you dont like the above dont do a "pile on" Give us your opinion. Status quo?????

  2. I see a death notice for a Russell John Campbell aged 94.in Cambridge. Anybody know if he was the trainer of Fairfleet and a host of other good gallopers at Matamata?.Tom Jones may have been another good horse he trained.

  3. Tasman - I am a member of 2 clubs, not one!! I have not served on any sub-committees at either. But back in the "good old days" I did help with tasks on an unpaid, voluntary basis. You know, those days when money was not a requirement for knowledge.

    Whanganui tomorrow

Perhaps they need a lane wider, pull the gandstand down, no buggar using it. It is a crazy situation repeated time and time again, but notice a lot of horses beaten at the 600 and earlier.

  5. A quieter weekend up here with the final day of the July Meeting at Newmarket the headline. 13 go in the July Cup over 1200m but the ground is on the soft side so this will make this more of a stamina test than is often the case. Joint top rated are the 3-y-o GOLDEN HORDE and the 4-y-o HELLO YOUMZAIN and these two won the key 1200m championship races at the Royal meeting. GOLDEN HORDE won the Commonwealth Cup for the 3-y-o and did it well while HELLO YOUMZAIN won the Diamond Jubilee. Who to choose? The 3-y-o gets 6 lbs which is not insignificant but will it be enough? SCEPTICAL and KHAADEM were third and fourth in the Diamond Jubilee and THREAT was fifth in the Commonwealth Cup. I'm not convinced SCEPTICAL will get home and I'm doubtful as to the ground for the other two. None of the others make a lot of appeal in all honesty. I'm with HELLO YOUMZAIN and I'm on at 11/2. The supporting Group 2 is the Superlative for the juveniles over 1400m. All ten have won and six are unbeaten so this could be a decent heat. HUDSON RIVER represents Aidan O'Brien and has been backed into favouritism. He won on debut over 1400m at The Curragh while John Gosden's SEVENTH KINGDOM won on 1400m at Doncaster on debut. MASTER OF THE SEAS won on soft ground on the Rowley MIle track. It's very difficult to tie up these form lines and make a call so it's a race to watch for the future for me. At Ascot, 11 go in the Group 2 Summer Mile on ground described as Good. It doesn't look the strongest renewal and former Queen Anne winner LORD GLITTERS could be the one back down in grade. He's always performed well over the track. MARIE'S DIAMOND was third, MOHAATHER seventh and SKARDU eighth in this year's renewal of the Queen Anne and the former has obvious claims on that effort. Sunday's feature is the Jean Prat at Chantilly over 1400m. 11 go to post with the favourite PINATUBO who was third in the 2000 Guineas and second in the St James's Palace. To me, he's always looked a 1400m horse and he's going to take a lot of beating if he settles. MOLATHAM won the Jersey but this is Group 3 form, not Group 1. ALSOM was third in the Poulains but I'm more interested in TROPBEAU who was fourth in the Pouliches. She was very good over course and distance as a juvenile and I've backed her each way at 12s.

    Whanganui tomorrow

Bit of a tough call Huey when 9 races were won by the fav, expected to win and did win. The key is for riders to get into the winning spot early.

Fairfleet probably his best Crusty, though Shifnal Chief won three for him before being sold to a client of Jack Winder.

    Trump written off

It's not the weed causing the issue......it's his access to the Internet. Living proof it should be limited......and his type would remain on dial-up for all time. The loss of the anons would be of benefit to mankind.

    Whanganui tomorrow

Whats the point in racing at Wanganui in the winter, they always hit the outside fence when there has been jumps on the programme and we expect punters to be interested in this, are they? Nothing can me any ground on anything that gets the outside fence or get past them if in behind...

  15. Why are they reporting revenue growth in this area when merchant fees charged to a consumer are only supposed to be a recovery of bank credit card costs by a Company. The expense and income from this area should cancel each other out. Elite customers don't pay credit card fees and with them turning over % wise in betting more than the average 'Joe' punter it seems they are subsidising the free ride for the Elites. John Allen said the $50 million dollar plus $17 million a year in costs would be world class and enable the NZ TAB to competitive with overseas rivals. Well the first thing you do is remove credit card deposite fees like all TAB"s and Corporate bookies have in Australia. Paying a fee to use that nightmare of a site is a joke. Mind you John Allen did say this when interviewed about his new role for the Wgtn City Council Must be some good shit getting blown around Wgtn at the moment. Poor NZ punter deposites $20 into his account pays his bank $2.15 for a credit card fee, if he uses card credit pays about 20% then punts into tote pools with a top takeout of 26% then they poor $#$@ard has to try and pick a winner. That credit card fee came in a year after Bayliss and his ex banking GM mates came in. The NZ TAB would have a good % rate on their merchant fees, most companies that do charge a credit card fee are around 2.5% so teh $2.15 on a $20 deposite is a high % for a customer to pay and on that type of a transaction results in a money making excercise. Interesting Lotto don't charge a merchant fee for online deposites. The merchant fee for debit cards online is 1% and $0.00 through eftpos. If anyone was charged a merchant fee of $2.15 by the TAB when depositing online during Lockdown e-mail them for a refund as banks waived merchant fees during this period. Its not the amount but the principal; as punters already get stung enough without adding to the TAB's revenue line when they don't have to. The first 6 months I would rate RITA's performance 2/10 as saw nothing to make me think they were onto it and made changes needed.

  19. Unfortunately while it is the clubs that vote for the executive those in the clubs who decide who to vote for are the clubs own executives and not the club members. In today's electronic age surely the clubs should circularise their members to see who the members want to be on the board and vote accordingly. But of course that would be against the rules of the breakfast club wouldn't it. Perhaps members should query their boards on this matter at their club's next AGM.

Yes. Total revenue is dead flat. That's post the new platform, with most of the racefields fees coming in, and with the first phase of the betting duty reduction in place. And there's no reduction in expenses.

  21. This board is totally out of control. But we keep sitting on our hands and watching Clubs need to act now and send them a clear message. What is happening in Southland is nothing short of criminal. 2 Clubs that clearly out performed the other 2 stopped from racing on their home courses.

There's no teeth left . Still waiting for someone , anyone , been asking this question for a while , to show exactly which tracks/clubs , and for how much each of these clubs has been "sucking the industry dry " . Just the names and figures will do . Don't need rhetoric . The 2 clubs i know of do it almost exclusively thru volunteer effort and grants , got nothing to do with NZTR/RITA . If they have ever got anything it certainly wasn't helping to suck the industry dry .

If we just look at the business angle. Not paying for form comments by TAB may be some sort of short term saving but then its destroying the value of the whole set of comments going back say 6 years. Is that smart business? I think not.
