The most impressive thing to me about the Gov handling of the Covid 19 has been their communication, Jacinda and Co have done a magnificent at this. If Rita knew that the announcement was not coming out yesteraday a little announcement on the news section of their website would have been appropriate.

The borders should have been closed weeks earlier Shane and all incoming quarantined not let through to go where they pleased. Had this been done I strongly suggest there wouldn't have been any need for a lock down and the huge economic cost that is about to occur. Blunder woman only lets you hear she wants you hear. All done is a very short time frame with any rigorous questioning quickly shut down.

  7. More about reducing the accidents on the roads and exposing emergency services , and policing distancing at point of loading and unloading . Wasn't a great deal of distancing when i was at the supermarket the other day , even the staff didn't seem to make much effort . Think people are getting over it all . There is only so much bubble wrap you can put around people before they start getting pissed off . I reckon there could be anarchy if we don't go to at least level 3 on Monday .

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern as reported in Stuff 21 March 2020: Also Stuff: 21 March 2020. Prime Minister: 23 March 2020. Stuff: 23 March 2020. The BFD. Also Stuff: 16 April 2020. Method: Repeat whatever “Blunder Woman” Jacinda Ardern says, she is our single source of truth, us too, we are your second only single source of truthiness. Jesus wept. Anyone would think you’re not a fan of Jacinda Ted! To be fair she’s been ahead of Scomo every step of the way. If you’re looking for a role model country in terms of the Covid response you can look no further than Taiwan. They learnt big time after the SARS outbreak and were completely and meticulously prepared for this pandemic unlike most other countries. They should be used as a blueprint for all countries to follow in future.

Thank you, GOM. I thought I had sent that reply above the other day. But we all know what thought thought as the years accumulate! Incidentally, I noted in the paper yesterday that NZ Rugby has just got a mighty handout from the Govt. $73.8m. Has anyone at GRNZ (or NZTR - or HRNZ) been knocking on doors to get a share of the largesse to help the people involved in NZ Racing? I certainly hope so but I have not seen any headlines like the Rugby one.

Hi Ted, What us punters would give for hindsight, even just one day of it :-) If she didn't close the borders quick enough then that was a mistake, but she could only go forward and her communication has been impressive since then. We all understand mistakes, so the least we ask for is quality communication.

  18. I think I got the gist of what you saying ....and it would be a worst case scenario that you visualise. I visualise it differently. I heard comments elsewhere of the same results being repeated ,but I think that wouldn't happen . Hence I suggest wait and see. Most of the Group 1 horses and those aimed at Jewels etc are probably not the ones to be racing. But I often miss the point......you possibly heard I had 3 years in the 5th form....WRONG ,it was 5 years in the 3rd form.

  19. They used to publish defaulters in the monthly racing calendar. Shouldn't they still be published perhaps on the NZTR web site.

  20. How about listing those that owe. Im sure that would be an "eye opener". The thoroughbred racing calendar use to list bad debtors - lets start again for the small player.

  21. Many have been calling for free racing for years but it falls on deaf ears till now. The current Clayton's model is the emperor's new clothes approach to racing, the key especially now is to increase(im dreaming I know) participation well at least try to maintain it as much as possible and strategies should have been put in place to achieve this year's ago, same goes with breeding horses plenty of talk on a diminishing foal crops but no initiatives to attempt to rectify this just kick the can down the road and I'll be gone by the time the s**t hits the fan approach. One big problem in nzracing is some people have too much input into the direction it takes and they have a very insular view, those same people will be asked to direct the ship through the next storm no doubt.

  22. My blood is really starting to boil at the massive and permanent damage being inflicted on NZ by a bunch of socialists with no idea how the real world operates. In particular I don't know how the racing industry will ever recover. The NZ Herald has a couple of stories running right now about the pathetic tax package for business that will do nothing about putting money in the pockets of small business owners to enable them to survive during this lockdown and hopefully emerge further down the track able to resume their businesses. How is playing around with tax going to help pay the rent, the mortgage, the power bills, the feed bills, and put food on the table? Then we have former finance minister Stephen Joyce stating what should be crystal clear - that it is pie in the sky fantasy to think you can eliminate the virus. Until a vaccine is available, it just isn't possible. And a vaccine may never be found. It isn't available for HIV or the common cold. And you cannot keep your borders closed indefinitely. In the meantime what is being done to the country is pointless and will not achieve the results Ardern thinks she can get. If NZ ever goes back into stage 2, the country will be well and truly stuffed by then. There will be mass unemployment, mass bankruptcy and Covid-19 will be replaced by suicide as a major cause of death. Here in Victoria we can still do the drive through at Maccas or KFC if we want. Bunnings and many other shops are still open. In the regional area where we live, most shops are open. We can buy magazines at the supermarket or newsagents. Most importantly, we still have one or two racemeetings EVERY DAY. Yes, the public are excluded. Trainers can't even leg their jockeys up or enter the mounting yard. There is no catering on course- you bring your own food and drinks. But we are still racing, and that is the main thing. The horses are being fed and cared for, and trainers can keep afloat. What I find amazing is that with a population of a million or so more than NZ, we have lower rates of new infections than NZ. Yesterday we had no new cases and we have been in the single figures for most of the last week. NZ still has 10-20 new cases a day. And that is after 3 weeks of total lockdown. Why is no-one asking why there are still this many new cases? We haven't been in total lockdown but we are getting fewer cases. Why aren't you guys jumping up and down demanding answers? NZ is going to seriously regret having this seriously out of her depth virtue signaller par extraordinaire in charge when people with serious business and real life experience are needed.

Like the trillions given away in the USA with no accountability .. It seems McDonalds NZ part of a 100 billion + dollar company, couldn't wait to grab some cash from the NZ governments business wage scheme ... At least 1 million dollars !

  36. Seems fair...the Government closed the business down ,as they did all businesses so they gave subsidies to every business. Macca's across NZ probably has 10,000 workers plus suppliers who prepare the fish ,meat, lettuce ,chicken etc so those workers and businesses similarly affected . Do the numbers ...big money for sure....One million wouldn't go far.Maybe $3- $4 mil per week ! Usually at least 80% of the restaurants are franchises owned by Ma & Pa's so being closed would be crippling to some.

She was advised to close the borders and quarantine a long time before she finally did so hindsight doesn't come into it. She only did so after strong lobbying and a 50,000 strong petition in just 24hrs was gaining traction. The communication Shane is highly questionable. 45. Great idea. The current method is, as you say, very time consuming and clumsy. Try explaining that a potential owner is overseas and can't be contacted to sign. Choice ? Stuff around until he/she gets back, or within range of a printer/ scanner - or forge the bloody thing. Just ridiculous in this technological age.
