  1. There is obviously going to have to be some rationalisation if racing carries on and the virus carries on. There doesn't seem much point meetings like Marlborough taking place if all of the participants have to travel to get there and the public aren't allowed to attend. Those two meetings should probably be moved to somewhere like Timaru and Ashburton. Not much point holding any meetings that are largely an on course event. Racing is obviously going to become an offcourse only event for a while so we might as well keep participants costs as low as possible. I am sure someone in management somewhere is thinking this all through, so no need for us mere mortals to worry about it.

    Corona Virus Impact on Racing

The most important message we can take from this is no matter how clever we think mankind is Nature will always have it's way. If you think about all the problems facing the modern world and mankind's feeble efforts to right them this virus addresses a lot.

  6. Get rid of some of these under utilised northern meetings, and give one back to Waimate

  7. It only needs one jockey or trainer to get it and things will grind to a halt. It may be though that they only close one island down. It could even be that they draw a line across the middle of the north island and restrict the movement of jockeys and trainers within regions. I don't think we will see northern jockeys chasing mounts at low key Southern meetings for a while. I don't see how the SI jumps season can proceed if they are reliant on northern jockeys. There probably won't be suitable flights for them anyhow. We just have to hope racing can continue in some form for as long as possible. It is going to be the only game in town and the only sport on TV. Surely casinos will have to close as well. I do think they need to start moving meetings out of hard to access areas. Do we even need meetings at Ellerslie when no horses are trained there. If the public can't attend why not race where the horses are?

  8. Will they have one tote open so the jockeys can have a bet...just kidding ,but one of chosen few may be qualified to bet ! Shame one or two owners couldn't attend ......would still have numbers well under 500 ! And would add a little atmosphere !

  9. Stables, NZTR have made the only possible decision. In the short term it may keep racing going. UK racing is gone. We need to hope that community transmission is delayed because that may spell the end.

If I recall correctly from my spell on the Cambridge committee, the club has very little control over dates. The club would have very much liked more rational dates instead of the rush of meetings in the new year, weeks of no racing at other times and back to back meetings with Auckland all too frequently.

even the most loyalist trump fan would see the last few weeks as a pretty big event during an election year its something he didn't need anyway ...... biden has abit of momentum and what does he do in the debate?? go straight back to the left wing madness open borders no more cars the end of oil and gas etc......... they just make it so hard for the average joe blogg too vote for them....... very interesting times not just american politics but seems every country is in for one hell of a financial earthquake

  16. I can't see any merit in that at all to be honest. What would the jockeys, trainers, float drivers, tab staff all do for two months. Go off on a cruise?

One positive thing, greyhound racing is unlikely to be affected by the new proviso that gatherings of 500 plus or more are banned

“It would be nice if the office was still there,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Health, told Congress this week. “I wouldn't necessarily characterize it as a mistake (to eliminate the unit). I would say we worked very well with that office..... Obama was the moron, a very well spoken deceptive individual at that. What you see is what you get works well with many, and Trump puts everything out on the table regardless of his sometimes idiosyncratic ways. Best POTUS ever

  22. Racing has a chance to fill the void with sports being put on hold . Lets face it not many people turn up at most meetings so they can still be a viable option on TV as the crowd has limited impact on the actual races.Racing has the opportunity to take centre stage .

Said it before, say it again ... Monopolies destroy any competition. NZGRA are to blame for allowing this and everything else that has destroyed the sport, it extends into those in the wider spectrum as well, certain owners, industry people etc etc.

  26. <29 Oct 2019 New Zealand will provide a $15 million contribution to the Green Climate Fund’s (GCF) FIRST replenishment. This was announced by New Zealand’s Ambassador to France, Jane Coombes, at the GCS’s pledging conference, held in Paris on Friday. The GCF is a US$10 billion fund used to finance efforts to cut green-house gas emissions and support climate change adaptation in developing countries. New Zealand has committed to providing $300m (THREE HUNDRED MILLION) in climate-related support over the next four years , CHINA loves this fund . $15 million , now that would build a nice dam in Northland wouldn't it >. CHINA - isn’t it the second largest economy in the world? One of the biggest military forces in the world, one of the largest polluters in the world - but pay nothing? So NZ suckers in and subsidises China’s pollution! Crazy.
