Great to see him back today. 3 G1's in Aus now, not something many kiwi horses can do, especially over the sprint distances.4 points

What a top bloke Tom is. Great to meet him and his brother in law Gary last night. Tom has the snazziest shoes in town! About to jump on a train with them out to headquarters now. Look forward to backing a few winners with them today. Zelda wants a photo no? Tell Boris to put some of these green things on Muntaseera in the first at Flemington. Easy doublings of your roubles.2 points

Super effort by Jamie Richards and his team 4 Group One's in a week...Has that ever been done by an NZ trainer before???2 points -
Always great to watch a race when high performing horses are at the top of their game and the competition is all on. I'm a trotting girl myself so my biggest kick for the night was You Really Got Me trotting all the way! He's still got a long way to go yet to live up to the hype about him.2 points

I was just going through the form looking for a “good value” runner who may be “Overs” in the betting. Thoughts of having a small ew on it. I looked at a horse called SOLESEIFEI. It’s showing $9 on the NZ Tote but I can get $24 elsewhere. Looking at its Wellington Cup win, it was an unbelievable run. The widest runner for the first 1600m, parked 4 and 5 wide from the start until The Jockey slotted in the one/one early into the back straight. At first, I thought maybe the Jockey was one of those pommies who like to sit wide, like some of those Melb Cup rides that have stuffed the chances of many. But no, it was a good NZ Jockey. Getting the horse in to that position eventually was great. This mare had to give in when the whips started to crack but she didn’t and that Melb Cup staying blood of Shocking came to the fore. A fantastic staying performance. So I’ve had a look at her AVONDALE Cup run and it was another beauty - very strong to the line with the big Hua FELAAR dwarfing her on the outside. At $24, I reckon with a strong staying test up the straight and then from the turn out to the 800m peg, shes a great ew bet over the 3200m. I think FELAAR might be a bit Suss over the 3200m, given he’s from a Faltaat mare. Can SOLESEIFEI do the double? The $24 ew is tempting.1 point

Antony Fuller is a very good trainer. He can really turn around jaded older horses with plenty of slow hill and beach work. Some horses sour going round and round a track every day! His previously best horse was the durable John Gray. Raced 113 times for 14 wins.1 point

But check out the earlier race Iraklis. Mach Shard was a certainty beaten. No daylight till 50 m and a clear winner in two more strides. That's racing.1 point

Given that this thread is about Trentham they must have got the trusty old ice creams tubes method for measuring correct, because the track looked pretty good yesterday!1 point

Now, now VOReason, don't beat up on yourself like that D Butcher is top class driver, he just ran into another very, very top class driver and if you go back and have a look at the race I think you'll see that Nat didn't give him much choice really, she was drivin like a demon to win it with her horse, when they were 2,3 behind the lead horse and the changes started she took charge and dictated from there, hell even MickG (sorry Michael G) didn't think any other horse was gunna win it but Copy That, everyone forgot about the little lady in the field, she's a little slugger and boy she showed it last night, she maybe little but right now she's fricken huge...... Cheers Iraklis1 point

Yes you can say it was a bad mistake, but he doesn't make many. We all make mistakes from time to time in our work, but ours can usually be rectified.1 point

Auckland Cup

If ever a horse had the right parentage to be an Auckland Cup winner you can't go past Dragon Storm. Sire Shocking won a Melb Cup and its dam won the Auckland Cup twice for G.Sanders. Could be at nice odds.1 point -

awful mistake by ''the cheif'' ..we all knew that the 100/1 shot in front would stop ,so for butcher to choose to go to the pegs and trail was just plain dumb...he could have gotten behind natalie when she went to the death ...she like the rest of us didnt want to be stuck behind that leader....sure enough ,the longshot implodes before the turn and mr butcher is dragged back at the crucial time...a horse is 3yrs old only once ,these huge errors are unforgivable..1 point -

Last March was a year ago RR and personally, a stat like that I rarely consider. As a follower of racing and grandson’s cricket I can’t help thinking how alike are the two sports. Both can deliver incredible highs and both can be soul destroying. Have watched Grandson in late teens carry his bat in a couple of innings then seen him slope off the field dejected after a series of ducks. A three ball duck on the weekend then annihilated the opposition with a 5-for wicket bag including a hattrick. A bowler can do a great job only to have catches put down by team mates, and a ton today is no guarantee of anything close to that tomorrow. I’ve also had great expectations in racing only to have a horse run last one week then come out and win the following week, such is the racing rollercoaster and another break down when looking a winner. I therefore have the utmost respect for Jamie Richards and the load of expectation his owners heap on him. That little bird on the shoulder can easily fly away as a top mare becomes retired to stud, a horse loses form for no apparent reason, gets a knock or breaks down and things can go from hero to zero pretty quickly. The measure of the man is coming home to attend the other 95 horses in the stable, the owners of which all have similar aspirations and expectations to what transpired this past weekend. The pressure to continue this run of big race successes must be enormous. Expectations unsaid but still there nonetheless and its these expectations, anticipation and sometimes hoping against hope that keep us watching cricket because the next ball might end up in the grandstand or rattle the timber and that foal running around beside his Mum might just be a million dollar earner one day. What a great sport.1 point -

No, I haven't sold it, so still available. Such a beautiful book. It would make a nice Christmas present for a galloping enthusiast. I have now dropped the price to $300. It is just too big to take with me when I downsize in the early New Year.1 point -
How the fuck did Acklin get onto that council?!?!?!?! The man completely stuffed up the club's rights under the Act and either didn't understand wat was going on, or played the political game or treasoned the race clubs and industry in general. How can he still have some say? how do these people get elected? Do the clubs vote for them or is it some quango boys club? Are they supporting Saundry to be CEO?1 point
