Group One Glory..Northern Kennels Dominate
My Two Cents and 3 others reacted to pilli for a topic
I think it's fair to say that most pundants would rank the strength of NZ Greyhound Regions as Southern..Central Districts..then Northerners. So,it was something of a surprise to see the NZ Cup/Galaxy Group 1 double go to Steve Clark & Jared Udy/Denise Cottam Northern Kennels. Well today, the Auckland Cup/Railway Group 1 double went the way of Peter Ferguson & Jared Udy/Denise Cottam. In fact, from only 4 finalists, northern dogs ran 1st 2nd 3rd & 1st. Noteworthy some exciting lower grade dogs from Karen Walsh kennel look set to take their place in Group Races during next 12 months. Pilli.Northern Cheerleader.4 points -
Did you say cut her some slack? If she couldn’t organise some prime time news footage of our success in Australia and Lisa Allpress in Saudi Arabia this weekend, then let her go completely and save a salary no doubt of about 100k. If it was me I would hang my head in shame and walk asap, or before I have to tell people at job interviews that I was let go, which we all know Now days means fired!4 points

Last March was a year ago RR and personally, a stat like that I rarely consider. As a follower of racing and grandson’s cricket I can’t help thinking how alike are the two sports. Both can deliver incredible highs and both can be soul destroying. Have watched Grandson in late teens carry his bat in a couple of innings then seen him slope off the field dejected after a series of ducks. A three ball duck on the weekend then annihilated the opposition with a 5-for wicket bag including a hattrick. A bowler can do a great job only to have catches put down by team mates, and a ton today is no guarantee of anything close to that tomorrow. I’ve also had great expectations in racing only to have a horse run last one week then come out and win the following week, such is the racing rollercoaster and another break down when looking a winner. I therefore have the utmost respect for Jamie Richards and the load of expectation his owners heap on him. That little bird on the shoulder can easily fly away as a top mare becomes retired to stud, a horse loses form for no apparent reason, gets a knock or breaks down and things can go from hero to zero pretty quickly. The measure of the man is coming home to attend the other 95 horses in the stable, the owners of which all have similar aspirations and expectations to what transpired this past weekend. The pressure to continue this run of big race successes must be enormous. Expectations unsaid but still there nonetheless and its these expectations, anticipation and sometimes hoping against hope that keep us watching cricket because the next ball might end up in the grandstand or rattle the timber and that foal running around beside his Mum might just be a million dollar earner one day. What a great sport.3 points -

Great to see northerners take the cash. Especially Jared and Nessy as they don’t have all the big owners and the iffy chasing Aussie dogs filling their kennels. They will also be (hopefully) going to the Easter meeting at Hawera showing you can train the best and still support grass roots racing. The best weekend of racing around if you want a great time and night time entertainment.3 points -
Alta Orlando coulda fared better (I'm not sure if he's still a Kiwi?) He is until he gets a conviction then he's Aussie. lol2 points

Is it wise to create more pools when present ones are so small. Personally I think one of the problems is the TAB's obsession with wall to wall meetings diluting the local product. 99.9% of punters (or flutterers) would not miss the dogs at Outer Bacou or the gallops in Niugini or the harness at Boston Mass - most will either refrain from betting at those meetings or bet locally if they really have the bug. With the ever diminishing patronage they are really playing into the hands of (low return) sports betting.1 point

How can the GREEN Party continue to support this Govt. Over the last 2 years, 21 mines have been approved on Conservation land and yet we all remember Mrs Ed saying NO MAS.1 point -

Look I'm not all that clued up on the subject to be confident arguing. My point is racing administrators should get smart. If climate change is a big deal for young people then its a case if you can't beat them then join them.1 point

Your voice of reason is a little raspy tonight Bevan seems like a good sort in a tough role, hes not that bad surely .? Same cant be said about the track . Its just not a fair racing surface and we have a consistent weather pattern, in changable weather its going to be a real lottery. New camber? When did that happen 100 ?1 point

Just watched TV1 Sports News. Was sure there would be at least a mention and maybe video of Probabeel and Te Akau Sharks amazing wins yesterday , but nope despite numerous sports from cricket to tiddlywinks covered not one mention about one of NZs greatest race days. A lot of people wouldn’t have seen those races but still would be interested. Very disappointing.1 point

Miracle Mile

Well thanks for those well chosen inspiring and uplifting words guys geezuz!.......that said, it is what it is guys, and yes field may have been robbed of those we consider should be there, however, it is not to be; instead we get to go with those horses who are available, and have been able to qualify. How bout instead of bemoanin the state of the field, we actually consider those horses who have made it in, as I'm sure their owners and connections are actually quite chuffed and proud to even have a horse runnin in the Miracle Mile! We have some Kiwi reps in the race and they have drawn quite well, although Alta Orlando coulda fared better (I'm not sure if he's still a Kiwi?) but, they all made it in and appear to be well! Lets hope for a well run Mile with a slashin time and enjoy the competition for chrissakes, yeh! Cheers Iraklis1 point -

Your statement is wrong. The reserves for this race were the slowest two 2nds by time. 52.8 A determination conducted pursuant to this Rule will render any Greyhound ineligible to be a Reserve Greyhound if times are a factor in the selection of Reserve Greyhounds. The 10 dog did not have a time so is not eligible to be a reserve. So the fact is the 10 dog should be in the final 8 dogs selected to race in the final or not in the field altogether.1 point -
There hasn't been such an uninspiring Miracle Mile for many a year. Most of these wouldn't of even made the field of it wasn't for such an injury plagued season for harness horses.....1 point

I've just had a look at the replays, and personally think that the filly got the jock out of trouble!3 wide and then caught flat footed, that was the run of the day! However the ride on TAS can not be faulted. How far would have the filly won by with that ride?Great training feat by Jamie Richard's.1 point -

I used to think it was BS this stopping power, just luck . Iam really starting to get on board with it now , imagine if that same mystical power was used as a force for good in this world . It's starting to get a bit more than chance . I wonder if CT ever met an ex jock from Ireland called Dermot Browne , he was known as the stopper but he used a needle not mind power .1 point -
Thanks Ponderosa, just checked and you are right. Totally agree with you about American racing.1 point

$140,000 is a bit out of this working class battlers budget! But in the scheme of things it does look a bargain! Good Luck to them! I believe Race Cafes very own Caroline has a half brother to VERRY ELLEEGANT purchased from Karaka 2018 for $10,000...NOW THAT IS MY TYPE OF BARGAIN!1 point

Pilli welcome back its being a while, dont see you around the traps when up that way. In my opinon in think Uthor Bale mid race sectional would of been to much for Dyna Dave to make up. But my punting results show other wise. Would love to Dave pull off a big one draw could be a problem with a lot of speed drawn inside. Be a great race what ever the outcome1 point -

Brotherly love and presumably the RIU guillable . It looked absolutely awful as you say Everton and the reason i never bet down that way. From The RIU When questioned regarding the manner in which he drove passing the 1600 metres driver N Williamson advised that he had elected to take cover in a three back position due to the gelding having to work too hard in the initial stages. The Old man achieved that near impossible feat one day at Ellerslie in the late 70s but had he wallet stolen after 4 races and picked every other winner in the police room, the prick got caught and was ordered to pay $5 a week for 3 years.... he saw $5 of it0 points
