I didn't start this post to bag Ben. I started it to point out a flaw in his driving style and point out that there seems to be little follow up and help when juniors get suspended. There should be a process that helps them fix these flaws People like Maurive McKendry, Colin De filippi, Clark Barron. They are 3 people that come to mind with experience who would be perfect candidates to help Horses run for Ben which is a gift. He is not the only one that needs help all juniors do. Have a look at the juniors races at Invercargill on Friday and Oamaru on Sunday. These young people are our future. Let's invest in them by giving them the best advise available and being honest, tell them when they need to adjust instead of worrying about hurting the feelings. Youthful exuberance is great but it seems in every junior race there is a novel written about it in the stripes report.

  2. The problem we now have is Trackside thinks they know it all. With their presentation of races they don"t give a rats about what the punter wants .We are missing out on judges call and photo finish and if they do show the photo finish I"m sure they are using a Box Brownie camera. You only have to look back last weekend when we were so looking forward to the Catalyst v AB ,no pre race build up ,race shown on TS2 and delayed on TS1 what a let down they treat us with contempt as if we don"t know racing unfortunatley this is what we have to put up with ,as I have said before I feel like Custer, it does not matter how high or how hard you wave the white flag the same result is inevitable cheers BH

    Because

no you said there had been no direction from him and blamed him for empty grandstands and carparks.....he certainly isn't perfect but he is significantly better than the lemons given to us by National

Hey Grego i backed Plushenko and totally agree, the photo shown after the race clearly showed Capellani as the winner . Not the first time its happened either

  5. Racing is not full of crooks as we all know , everywhere racing is though there is some form of ducking and diving so to speak. Most gamblers of long standing I know accept that and like to think we can spot the dodgy bastards and get onto the touch with them if we can spot a pattern . There's jockeys in every country who punters call or think are dodgy , they may or may not be but it's a part of racings character imho . Keiron Fallon springs to mind , a bit iffy , dare say could handle himself in a bar brawl too for a little guy but was seriously good jockey .Sadly everything needs to be sanatised nowdays .

Coming from someone who obviously doesn’t buy tickets..... I’m sure it is a bit of both...doing the community thing while dreaming of the big payoff to make life a little easier for family...nothing wrong with that.

When people by a Lotto Ticket there’s only one thing on their minds - 1st Division and a chance to be a millionaire! The rich don’t take Lotto. The “last” thing on Lotto Ticket buyers minds is “community”. It’s more like New house, pay off mortgage, new car, boat, overseas trip, racehorse ownership etc. All this community minded rubbish is a hoax - fake news!

  8. Typical Box Seat last week Greg Interviewed winning drivers/trainers of the feature races even back to 4th in some races. but chose to talk to Nat ("very much so Greg") and even a beaten runner in the sires stakes but too hard no doubt to find a real human interest story of the forgotten horse from somewhere in North Island that ran 4th and very nearly 3 rd as above. It would have been an interesting and lively discussion .!!

I find it amazing Trumpie how you lower yourself constantly by posting on a NZ Racing forum, I guess you just love being a big fish in a small pond. We are incredibly lucky to have you routinely tell us what dumb stupid failures we are.

  12. Don't forget the past to look to the future.Trials used to be because you used to have to win or get placed at trials before getting into the races. Entry into the races was that competitive!!! Now we have a lack of race numbers problem. PFP's suggestion is interesting. A simple way to increase betting churn and allowing owners access to trying to earn something with a horse with limited ability. We will still have the same problem in normal races though as we have too few potential runners. I see one of the undiscussed topics being that there are suggestions that racecourses close but that race dates don't decrease. If you don't decrease the race dates, and you have a continued decrease in horse numbers, then where are you still going to find the race numbers? Take the recent Te Rapa meeting. The $400,000 race had 10 runners but that is OK for a WFA Championship race, although to be fair, that was a listed/ Gp 3 at best in the UK. But it was the other races that were concerning.....5 races with seven or less runners. Now that is a disaster.

Have to agree Grego. The photo print put upon Trackside did have a margin to the 5. I would imagine that someone would have asked to inspect it after the call...….wouldn't they...
