    Where

Eljay ,these are not 'normal' races which could be scraped or dickered with thru dismal acceptances. These are special races administered thru the NZ Sires Stakes Board so they are planned well in advance as the eligible horses have paid into them as foals or yearlings with sustaining payments.Payments range from $100 as foal up to $600 for all series payments. So the breeders /owners who make these payments are aware these planned races will be held. There are a number of Heat races from Southland to Auckland ,with the high stake final later in season. These races can't be 'scraped' ...the money is 'in the bank'. There are separate series for males and fillies for the pacers. The trotters are unisex....no separation ! Generally connections want the separation , they don't want their young fillies having to race the boys .......but the trotters have no choice !! Dunno what the %'s are , but discussing it with a couple of mates our experiences with young horses has been that less than 20% of horses get to race as 2 year olds[often as late 2 yr olds] so the % would be much lower at this time.....mid January !Among our group we currently involved in some 20 x 2 yr olds and only ONE been to the trials !

    TAB favourites

TAB don't work on old site anymore and its too hard on the new site Asked several times and the best they can come up with is you get a text about 30 mins before the race You also have to enter it into your favourites which have to have had a start so a first upper don't work at all Anyway the other way is go to Arion Pedigrees and register (its free) they have race tracker which is brilliant You get an email when the fields are announced then another one on raceday then another one after race to let you know how it got on Its Brilliant and free Too hard for the mob we got running our outfit

Need a person to put their hand up to do the scoring...Maria was fantastic but I think she has chosen not to contribute recently...which is a shame she was the best in the business...but I am happy to front up the prizes if someone is keen to score them for us... I agree a ton of fun.

  7. Why does NZTR dilly dally around on the whip issue? Surely they could set the world on fire by banning whips? Show leadership etc. it won’t make any difference to NZ racing will it - other than chalk up at least one good move that will have the World of Racing sit up and follow little ole NZ’s lead. The Trainer’s lobby can’t be so strong that they might offer any meaningful objection.

Yeah looks like group A ‘chance their arm’ a little more .....Waddell is reading his races very well, he must do his homework on his opposition and is a great judge of pace, the ride on Bevan Street was perfectly judged albeit aggressive in the finish i dont know what the plan was on liquid inspiration in the same race, may as well of just stayed home

    Splitting Races

I notice at Wingatui this Thursday they may split the maiden mile with 30 noms, but no intention of splitting the maiden stayers with 24 noms. Pretty hard to get a start for a maiden stayer in the South. Is it any wonder the higher grade staying races sometimes have small fields. It makes an interesting comparison with Tauranga last Friday where 4 horses went around for $22,500. Perhaps that was because one of the favs for the Karaka thing needed to win some stakes money. Poor Mr Pitman had to start his 2yo against older horses to get into the Karaka race. I bet he would have loved a 4 horse 2yo race. I heard a trainer at Gore on Saturday comment that her horse missed a race at Omakau because they deleted the race. She should move to the Waikato, they are happy to run races for 4 horses up there.

  10. Couldn't believe that Line Up paid 30-1 from that draw. I watched the race but didn't have a bet, didn't even really take note of the odds. I thought he'd been under 10-1. Well under. Oh well. The Cup race was a stunner. Old AG seems to be back to his best this last month after a year in the wilderness. Self Asuusred's run was enormous from that back draw, especially without getting a dead into the race, and Chase Auckland's run was even bigger after being all over the place. I couldn't believe how CA took ground of SA in the run home. All of the Aussie horses got better runs than the Purdon pair and still couldn't beat the Kiwis. The open class trotters put on a beauty too, but they'll be battling for the minors once the Kiwis arrive in town over the next few days.

    Lovely

Is it time for a change of the clowns in the circus? Haven't heard from Spicer for a while - does that mean he is on a full time expenses paid holiday or doing everything behind closed and locked doors?

    True Blue help

Hello Anzac friends I have spent a few weeks in you land over Christmas and experienced the pressures you’re suffering in Vic and NSW. I can offer my assistance in the form of a green paddock and good feed. If you require a clean air opportunity for a developing yearling or 2 YO, and a home to continue their growth from your ANZAC compatriot for some months free of charge, I am happy to provide that opportunity. As a small breeder and conscious of your present conditions I can understand the concerns some of you have challenging you daily existence. Please let me know if I can help. Cheers John
