It appears to me that Mr John Otham seems to be the main catalyst in nearly every poor judicial decision in racing in this country. Over the years on Race Cafe I have made quite a number of comments about his poor actions. It’s not a pick on Mr Otham by me, simply a further acknowledgement that he seems to have the midis touch for poor judgement!

  2. She's a senior now, not an apprentice. She has a very good record, but isn't flash with the stick ; I've often wondered why she bothers using it at all, she seems to lose her way when she flaps about with it. With the whip debate going on, I think she'd be better to try and develop a more vigorous pushing style and forget the stick altogether.

Tim the JCA have to be 100% certain that the 2nd horse would have beaten the winner, in my opinion, it would not have. Have a look at both horses at the top of the straight, they racing side by side,100m further on the filly had put 1 length on the other horse, she then looked at the big screen and pricked her ears and lost momentum and shifted ground. This made the 2nd horse appear to make ground. In fact, the winner had lost concentration and momentum and this flatted the runner up. I believe this would rate as an embarrassment for both the RIU and the JCA and i do feel for the punters who lost on a poor decision. I am told that the Trainers Association had a lot to say about this poor decision.

Interesting coin of phrase there Iraklis, news has come to hand that AGW had being having scouring issues before Interdoms which may have been rectified by a change of feed up north. This is not to disparage the efforts of its previous trainer and part owner GH but may explain its apparent form reversal although MM has given the horse a peach of a drive in both starts Greg

Protest upheld reminds me why betting on NZ races is ...laughable. The new winner had every chance to run the leader down and was not good enough.Tangerine dreams ...indeed.

Tim,go and have a look at the NZTR Web site and have a look at the stewards 4 videos. Then you will see this is the worst decision by both the RIU/JCA, the incident happened 3 strides before the post and how anyone can come to the conclusion the best horse didn't win the race is beyond belief.

As a sometimes critic had a feed there.first for ages.it was gr8 fairly priced.auckland do a lot right but they need a fan base.even when they lose Phoenix warriors breakers get a staunch crowd. Took relatives from England they had a great time.we need a slightly shorter night more exposure 9f our participants etc. And incentive for repeat business.im thick but giving all dinners all over the course say buy one get one half price next time.dinner includes a tap beer soft drink or wine on next visit.dont matter if they give them away.just need the will and the personell.karen Blanchard is great give her the ammo

Went down to our local Papamoa TAB on Wednesday to prepay for one and joined the list of about a dozen, so hope they get enough to them. Looking forward to it. Racing needs this so hope RITA gets right in behind them and gets them what they need.

Correct Puha BUT if you've had anything to do with publications and distribution this can be labour intensive and costly showering it out all over the place especially for a dwindling market which means costs go up for the few who do want it. Service comes at a price unfortunately but still keen to see the finished product and how it progresses.

They do highlight the recalls , they have to sometimes in order to make drivers aware of the recall of the defective vehicles , in fact ive seen companies not imited to vehicle manufacturers ordering recalls taking out full page ads to make people aware .It cannot be hidden . Of course it's not in their glossy adverts for new vehicles . The spreadsheets put up are the figures , would you have them hidden . If a family or friend approached you as someone with clear in depth knowledge of industry , would you highlight these figures . A earlier post mentioned 30 mill plus stallion syndications , how many such syndications have occurred from NZ raced horses trained horses or Karaka sold horses in last decade ? . Not many would be my guess . I'd advise family or friends , lease to start at low end and decide from there how you like it , then move on up once you get a feel for it and learn the economics , what the yards talking about , etc etc .Would anyone say that's bad advice or negative to the industry . A learner driver don't buy a Ferrari if any sense . I would guess some of those breeding syndicates have breeding people in, tax write offs and of course if some met with misfortune any insurance payouts cut cost. On subject of breeding syndicates, I still cannot work out why the balls come off so quick here , is it that they cannot house colts and fillies far enough apart. Gosden , O"Brien Fabre , Stoute how many geldings in their yards , bugger all would be that answer .Lethal, balls gone 2k in bank , limited ability , that's dead money by looks of it . Again , Jamie Richards , top trainer , TA got runs on board , beautiful horses, iam sure they have provided lifelong memories for many , it's not a dig it's the cold hard economics of the industry , why hide it and hope it's different when you look under carpet in a year . Stakes are not doubling .

Then why not balance their negative viewpoint and put up some of the positives. The cheaper buys that went on to win big races in Australia and NZ. Those that were pinhooked and onsold for big profits? Many of the yearlings sold at Karaka will be onsold to HK for big money. The sale price should go into the equation I would think? The negative slant put on TA’s marketing and promotion is an example of negativity that does the Industry no good. There are plenty of stories of success from the syndication of racehorses and there are failures. Redzel comes to mind - as the best success. I’ve never gone into a TA syndicate nor have I had a horse trained by their Trainers. I was invited once and politely declined. It wasn’t my thing. But my niece’s experience with GINGERNUTS, a $55k (approx) syndicated TA horse that won the NZ Derby is a positive and one they should highlight. People buy Toyota cars despite the millions of them having been recalled for defects. Toyota don’t highlight the recalls do they? But people still buy Toyota’s and Toyota still market how good their cars are. Which they are imho.

Trump, you can hardly call someone who is telling the truth and pointing out some very pertinent and interesting facts ' part of the loony brigade" in fact the oppos Trump, you can hardly call a comment that is truthful, pertinent and interesting to people involved in the sport "part of the loony brigade" and part of the anti horse lunatic fringe. I think your post qualifies for that tag more than Shane's post All it does is point out that no matter how much money one has to fling around there is no guarantee that it is going to result in a better return than the realist at the other end of the spectrum. Surely that is more likely to encourage people to have a go

So here we are, about 7 weeks away from NZ’s National Thoroughbred Sales at Karaka, and we have so called “horse people”, people who love their horse racing, doing everything they can to highlight the negatives of the Industry! Sometimes I wonder if some of you are part of the loony brigade, the anti-horse racing lunatic fringe! Why don’t you do something positive and put up some of the “thousands” of positives that make up the Racing Industry”. Everyone is aware that buying a horse is like buying a Lotto ticket. If you see it in a negative way, just don’t get involved! But why put the boot in on those that are involved and do your best to discourage people from buying into a horse at the Karaka sales coming up? There are thousands of stories of people having the fun of horse ownership. Of going along to morning trackwork, getting excited on Raceday, disappointed with a bad run etc. but they love it and the chance to watch their horse win. There are no guarantees and there are great moments and great disappointments. But why put the boot in at a time the Industry needs all the help it can get. I’m betting that someone will buy a cheapish Book 3 pony that will bring great joy and maybe prosperity in G1 glory in the future. Will it be you?

Without head on back on hard to tell.the jc a have rules they have to adhere to.the opinion it was going to win if it went straight is not relevant.it didn't.the jc a has to adhere to rules.they don't make them.very experienced and competent panel.would be nice if all information and film made public.thennexplanations from the top.im not at all surprised by the decision as I believe the back on and headons might reveal the damage.lets c them.back on extremely important in these sort of enquiries sometimes it is surprising what they show.better or would help.

I must say, none of the connections of Te Akau Racing had any input into this relegation or inquiry I am told that the rider was quoted as saying, we were beaten on our merits. If this was the case then surely it is time to have a serious look at the competency of the RIU and the JCA in this instance. This is not good enough in my opinion.

Agree what a joke without hanging the winner had 1.5 lengths on the 2nd horse Contact was only made 15 m from the line as can be seen on the head on and the jockey still last hit the horse 20 m from the line The 2nd horse was far from certain to beat the winner .The only reason it got close was the winner being corrected and losing momentum as a consequence. It stinks
