  1. Hi Racecafatarians You are wondering what a machine like this is doing on a racing web site ,well let me explain. We were at a garage sale in Whitianga on Sunday and this doozie of a machine was there .The garage sale man told me it was a turf aerator used at Bowling clubs and racecourses ,really !! So that got me thinking this could be the answer to racing clubs problems .I sure some of you have already identified this aerator as the Mark 2 x 7 head super model not the old cumbersome Mark 1 x 6 head model. Now this is how I see this scenario plays out.On the morning of the races when the track manager arrives and decides its to wet to race , he informs the racing club of the problem. But hey now its not as bad because they ring me on 0800 AERATOR and in a flash I'm there at the top of the straight starting to work wonders on the problem.I won't start on the bend as I'm not sure how this Super 7 model corners. As the crowds arrive at the races they can look up the track and can rest easy knowing that all is being done to make their day a happy one. This Aeratoring takes a while so I will have my 6pack of Speights with me .This is a concern as trying to keep it in a straight line becomes trickie. On completion of work which it is now Tuesday and I have know one here to give my invoice to only the track manager who is now picking up the empty Speights bottles and trying to strangle me. Well there is a few little problems to iron out, And I know about the drinking but I think there could be a place for my Mark2 x 7 Head Super model .Perhaps if it was a ride on ,well back to my shed to build the Mark 3 x 10 head Super ride on, now were did I leave my Speights.CheersBH

Makes depressing reading. The only happy people would be the under bidders, thanks Shane

  3. Tim I think they need a bunker system like the league that does all races. No jockey trainer input. They make a decision and explain the rule.

It is a shame the NZTR site hasn't got room for the last 600m off the front for each race as it makes it easy to work out the tempo etc. Below are the last 600m off the front for that Otaki meeting. The tables showing tempos, speed ratings etc can be seen here Makes it so much easier to work out which runners were unsuited by the tempos etc. e.g. Peloton in the Wellington Stakes worked early and shared the second fastest tempo all day to the 600m mark, so did well to only wilt in the last 100 metres and finish a 3.7L fifth

Heroic Valour got close to earning his purchase price back, and is now at stud in Australia. Queen of Diamonds would be worth heaps more now than what she sold for.

I didn't hear or see the race and I think it was Oamaru last weekend. Just heard Pete Early and Dave Mac lamenting the start of a trot race. Abysmal said Pete (being nice) and said he would be asking serious questions in his show tomorrow morning. I hope he adds race 2 at Alex Park tonight to that discussion as well. What a bloody shambles. (never had a bet). There's got to be a better way. No wonder turnovers are dropping.

  8. From the top 10 lots at Karaka for the past 5 years: One horse has won its purchase price back, Long Leaf. No horse has won more than 4 races 29 horses have won 1 or less races Average cost $735,400 average stakes won $102,387. Average races won 1.94. * This does not include stallion or mare value end of race career. AUD and NZD could be mixed, but immaterial.

Trump, you can hardly call someone who is telling the truth and pointing out some very pertinent and interesting facts ' part of the loony brigade" in fact the oppos Trump, you can hardly call a comment that is truthful, pertinent and interesting to people involved in the sport "part of the loony brigade" and part of the anti horse lunatic fringe. I think your post qualifies for that tag more than Shane's post All it does is point out that no matter how much money one has to fling around there is no guarantee that it is going to result in a better return than the realist at the other end of the spectrum. Surely that is more likely to encourage people to have a go

So here we are, about 7 weeks away from NZ’s National Thoroughbred Sales at Karaka, and we have so called “horse people”, people who love their horse racing, doing everything they can to highlight the negatives of the Industry! Sometimes I wonder if some of you are part of the loony brigade, the anti-horse racing lunatic fringe! Why don’t you do something positive and put up some of the “thousands” of positives that make up the Racing Industry”. Everyone is aware that buying a horse is like buying a Lotto ticket. If you see it in a negative way, just don’t get involved! But why put the boot in on those that are involved and do your best to discourage people from buying into a horse at the Karaka sales coming up? There are thousands of stories of people having the fun of horse ownership. Of going along to morning trackwork, getting excited on Raceday, disappointed with a bad run etc. but they love it and the chance to watch their horse win. There are no guarantees and there are great moments and great disappointments. But why put the boot in at a time the Industry needs all the help it can get. I’m betting that someone will buy a cheapish Book 3 pony that will bring great joy and maybe prosperity in G1 glory in the future. Will it be you?

Certain stables have got away with obvious team driving for years. It's not an even playing field and the stipes in my opinion are morons.

  13. According to my 10 yo copy of turf register ,jumpers earnings are way better per year than flat horses, maybe you are on to something.

  14. Quite enlightening isn't it. Of course no one could expect a high priced purchase to cover its purchase price racing solely in NZ.

I'll stick my neck out and say the Aussies wont win a heat but a couple will gain enough points to get in the final then look out. They'll have had three races right handed by then and we know they can be bloody tough opponents when the chips are down. Just mho.

There just seems to be very little if any interest in this years Interdoms and its not as if its a one sided AS affair. some of their horses will need plenty of luck from ugly draws over 1700 tonight but my biggest question is will the Ozzies front up in the pacers section after their dismal first nights efforts Greg

Sam Collet had nothing to say Her opinion would of been the difference surely. Secondly, when is shifting out a relegation offence? There was a classic at Morphetville a few years back where two horses eyeballed each other from the turn going from the rail to almost the outside fence , protest was dismissed after 5 minutes and as far as loss of momentum goes in this case there wasnt any, the side on video was conclusive.Danielle stopped riding not Sam Collet which should of been the main focus given the head margin ,which is Ultimately why the protest was upheld and the only reason the fav got closer . If this was their first day on the job you could understand

  22. I'll say it again, franking form is the only way to assess overall ratings. There are a number of bench marks but ultimately it ALWAYS comes down to one performance being compared with another. That is franking the form. You can bring any track type, race condition, bias that you want, but ratings will always come down to a comparative study of various horses being compared to each other. That includes year by year and even generation by generation.

I must say, none of the connections of Te Akau Racing had any input into this relegation or inquiry I am told that the rider was quoted as saying, we were beaten on our merits. If this was the case then surely it is time to have a serious look at the competency of the RIU and the JCA in this instance. This is not good enough in my opinion.
