  1. The problem that you have is these blokes only talk about betting and the merits of bets and their so called tipping prowess. If you sell the program on betting, then you'd like to capture your audience because you're good at that. They're not so they should keep away from it and concentrate on the horse. If you market placing bets on tips given by so called experts, and in 28 chances you only get 14 in the frame, and this has been a norm, then stop it. Sell the program on the horse, breeding, people and the love of the animal.

    Unbelievable

Dear Lloyd, The dates for the 2018/19 season were released as far back as June of 2018. The fact that only now have you brought it up is obviously because, until today, you had not realised that the 2 Metropolitan Clubs were racing against each other. Your thinking appears to be that the Inter Dominions are sacrosanct, and they should have a night on their own. I would usually agree with you without reservation but since your Club can only attract 26 pacers, and some of them completely outclassed, my support for your view isn't as strong as it would normally be if that were the only reason you are complaining. I do agree however, because the problem of the 2 Clubs racing against each other isn't confined to this Friday night, to me it is any Friday night that they compete with each other. It is a fact that the TAB turnovers of the 2 Clubs added together on any Friday night is 33% less than an average night a decade ago of 1 Club and the trending of this has been consistent ever since they started racing on the same night. Consistently trending down. I have been told the on-course and TAB turnovers of a recent Friday night at Alexandra Park which I won't repeat on here until I check for myself. It is not that I doubt my source but I just don't like presenting something as a fact unlessI can verify it. Suffice to say that it was a mile night that apparently is "a real attraction" according to your Racing Manager. The Turnovers that were achieved both on and off-course would be disheartening to the Taupo or Westland Racing Club racing on a Tuesday in June on a Heavy 10 track. Haven''t you ever wondered why they stopped publishing the Turnovers in the Weekly or online? The Harness Racing Industry made a huge blunder in giving up Saturday nights in order that the Thoroughbred code could run 2 or 3 domestic meetings on a Saturday and then beam in the Australian races without what they termed interference The answer is for Alexandra Park to race on Saturday nights. The reason for leaving Addington on Friday nights is because 1. the South Island's Canterbury area can sustain another meeting on the Sunday whereas Auckland cannot 2. traffic as mentioned by Stables and 3. to stop cannibalising the TAB turnover The only reasons that I have ever been given in opposition to this happening is Alexandra Park bleating that they have a lot of functions on a Saturday night. Given the turnover for a night's on-course betting the patrons at a race-meeting would not put any pressure on function rooms. We are talking of 5 figures, low 5 figures, not 6 figures. If you took away trainers and drivers the balance of the 'crowd' could probably all fit in theTAB area of the Sports Bar. I am well aware that about 4 seasons ago they conducted a trial of 4 Saturdays from memory with harness racing. The trial wasn't successful but it was never going to be when you were trying to change a decade or more of habits ingrained in people. Even I, a devoted gambler back then, couldn't get back into the habit of watching on a Saturday night and I missed watching all but 1 of the nights. The answer was simple Lloyd, people like you and Tim Vince (whom I have a lot of time for) needed to clean out the Committee and get in charge and make decisions like these. The answer isn't that simple now because I doubt that many people want to be on the Committee with the building project issues. I can hold my head up high as regards this disaster, I asked the late President before a sod was turned why the Club was engaging in a risk prone endeavour instead of merely selling the land and letting someone else take the risk. His reply at the time I remember did assuage my concerns a little bit, and of course no one knows what sort of influence he may have had on the whole matter if he had still been around., his own success would indicate that he probably would have been a huge help Mikie

Anyone got a nice mare they aren’t breeding from this season or trying to get out of? Would be going to Darci or Ocean Park. Also anywhere else (other than gavelhouse) that I could look? Thanks very much

  7. Brilliant commentaries this week but the hyperbole pre and post race is giving me a headache. The Couplands mile has just been run and the third horse was “brilliant”. Yesterday at Addington it was mind numbing. Maybe just youthful enthusiasm but someone should have a word ... it’s television and less is always more. But huge potential, kudos for that.

  8. We've seen racing's fortunes go down the gurgler in slow motion and the arrest is not in sight. One thing in common is that the television (or computer) is the shop front window for the sport. Universally the horse is referred to as the "product" and that betting has taken centre stage. Is there something wrong with my brain, or you tell me, if something doesn't work, aren't you meant to fix it? If this attitude of using the "product" in a particular way to sell betting isn't working, wouldn't you change it? The racing industry is all about the horse and the people associated with it, with the owner being King Kong. My memory is slowing becoming toast and in the yesteryear I knew the pedigree, breeding and colours of all the horses racing. My brain was sort of able to imagine the matrix of which horses matched which horses. The reason I got this is that I worked in a stable, or did the barriers, or went to the races, or owned a number, and that provided me with continuous imports of data which made me remember horses enough to maintain an interest. There was also an emphasis on who bred them and owned them, and these data entries helped me remember. Every little bit of info is another chance of prompting my memory to remember a particular horse. The expression familiarisation comes to mind. Now we've lost all of that. Don't even have the owners in the TAB race card. The drone of monotone syllables and sentences with no passion, talking about betting and some weird interpretation on race form is not capturing my imagination or interest. I don't get why nobody doesn't get that. Maybe I should be committing myself to some sort of health clinic while the industry continues to make a success of itself.

  10. They got to fill time I know but it's the bullshit they come out with , mapping this and that. , presents well this and that . In old days you look at field , go right that horse a front runner , that comes with late rattle . How will draw/track suit . Now every horse has to get mapped in a exact science in order .They no better selecting than most of us but fair credit to people that earn a living out of their hobby , good on them. When I head to races I sometimes after meeting go threw the selections grid , it's reassures me they are just as hopeless as me . Cheers me up no end after a poor day , misery loves company .

You can check out NZ Thoroughbred breeders association website they have a section on fillies and mares to lease or contact some of the studs as some may have clients not wanting to breed this season

    B.P's BIG DAY AT PUKEKOHE

To be fair to these guys they have to pick 4 horses in every race even if they don’t like the race. The Get On programme from Aussie do it best .They talk about each race but only tip one if they think it’s worth a bet.

Not anymore. Jennifer Eccles is now the best maiden in the country after Aalaalune finally won her first race impressively today at Te Rapa by 4 Lengths. She'll probably win them in a row now she's found the line?

Mikie makes some very pertinent points. It would be good to see the turnover figures. There have been some atrocious attendance figures at AP the past 2 x years .Impossible to get any lower IMO. I suspect Saturday is very profitable for functions there.

having listened to Trump on foxnews, and understanding now that President Trump is not in a compromised position due to the Tariff returns (as you pointed out), it made me see the Vantage point Trump is in regarding negotiating trade and the Hong Kong issue!! i guess im saying you were correct

    Unbelievable

The I.D's have been scheduled this date (maybe earlier) when dates for whole season set which is when Addington date set also. Therefore to me it's just either plain stupidity, or brainless, or idiocy, or similar. Dates calendar done by Racing Board in cohoots with the individual codes and all bodies no doubt give the year's schedule the big tick prior to it's release.

    Altior v Cyrname

If Henderson takes Altior to Kempton id be on him to turn it round unless heavy . Cyrname might not be as good away from his track at Ascot .Kempton flat , fast and he cannot take liberties when the pressure comes on down that straight at Kempton. Those fences come up quick . Great to see Maher and Eustace taking over Big Blue . No show in Champion Hurdle but he can pick up a decent race somewhere , they get a few small field condition hurdles in Jan and Feb spread around the place . As an Aussie raider he will create some interest for the old timers who remember and loved Crisp over there

    Go Figure

Great to see Timaru using the rating system and carding a 40 - 42 race today. But if there is a logic around allocating $8k to that race & only 7.5k to the non winners races and 7.5k to a race with up to a 47 rating, it escapes me

    B.P's BIG DAY AT PUKEKOHE

It was a rating 65 horse racing out of its grade so what do you expect t when it’s one of the lowest rated horses in the field ? It’s formline is irrelevant. Your suggestion of a clubs committee would be open to the looking after your mates syndrome and doing favours etc no thanks .

    Complacent

Good to see a Complacent sell for $170000 at the Ready To Run sale. Complacent was highly thought of as a racehorse in Australia and he may well be one of the best value stallions in NZ.Time will tell but early indications look good.
