What a beautiful trotter so well gaited and 1.5386 WOW !! Clearly one of the best we have ever seen. The spectacle was somewhat demininished by the Trackside TWATS crossing over to cover a dog race worth $2,300 at Palm Nth ALL because of their bloodyminded insistance not to let viewers hear the judges call which always includes THE TIME. GIVE YOURSELVES AN UPPPER CUT............ cost viewers hearing HISTORY in the making .....a new NZ record.

  2. I put a question to Dean on this forum and his reply was that they just needed to get on and work with what they have got. I thought it was critical a full assessment was done as it is vital for future planning.

  3. According to Michael Dore he wasn't consulted on the design and features(lack of) of the website. I find that extraordinary. Michael Dore had over 30 years dealing with customer issues including any problems surfacing re the previous website. Just what kind of management is that??? Its like designing a website for police without consulting frontline officers. Listen to John Allen in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeTl2V9aNzkWhat gets me is given the almost universal negativity about the website why no official inquiry. What brought about the maniacal support by John Allen? Why hasn't Dean Mackenzie roundly condemned John Allen?

  4. I’ve been watching on KAYO, an interview by Dr Turf with Michael Walker. If you get a chance, have a watch and listen. A great interview about his life from growing up, injuries, career, mishaps, mental problems (including contemplating suicide when in St Kilda), success, failure and where he sees himself right now. It’s worth watching it if you can get access. It’s only recently been recorded last few weeks.

    Biphosphonates

There is a very interesting article in the Los Angeles Times, of 28th October, written by John Cherwa about the administration of bisphosphonates to young horses and its masking effect on the bones of those young horses. Apparently they are sold under the trade names of Osphos and Tildren. With my severely limited information technology skills I am unable to link the story to this site. Hopefully our good mate poundforpound can do so. His opinion on this matter would be most appreciated. Cherwa suggests that the widespread use of such drugs in young horses could be one of the reasons for the unusually high number of deaths of racehorses in California in particular, and to a lesser extent in New York and Kentucky. I get the impression that Cherwa is very knowledgeable on matters such as this.

She was simply telling them that she isn’t ready for this yet. Young horses are generally not stupid, even if the owner appears to be, based on the way he has handled Aalaaline. De La Terre will be a good horse if they back off now for 6 months or more. Let’s see what happens.

Isnt it good to watch a good square gaiter and yesterday we were fortunate to see two very good ones at Ashvegas.Your other comments are not unreasonable but the Trackside production teams do not seem to comprehend what info the race viewers want pre and post race Greg

  12. Totally agree that horses improve with age as they actually get faster with age. Strangely enough this was the topic of another post where scientific evidence indicated that our horses didn't reach full speed potential until they were 5-6. As a refresher here are the study results. Maybe the old timers knew what they were talking about when they didn't race their horses early In this instance though, even though she is older, you have other horses competing against each other (franking the form) that indicate, on the face of it, that the improvement is only minor (any improvement is great) as Magic Wand is the recent benchmark. Having been thrashed by Magical (123), you can line up the form correctly. Magical is very good (ran 10l behind Waldgist in this year's Arc) but every time she ran into Enable, she got thrashed. So if Enable is 127 (average) and Magical is 122 (average) then Magic Wand is running to 112 before the Cox Plate. She can't improve that much in 1 month, so the form rating stands. So the winner Lys Gracieux cannot be more than Magical (122) and her recent previous form would indicate this. So this may have been a career best (visually), so I don't think the improvement that you are looking for is there. That's why at the moment TAS is not yet as good as most think he is. He's a good horse but he is not yet a messiah. This is what franking of form is all about...

Red Rum King Midas sold for $3,900. A friend of mine was looking to buy a horse for Singapore. I alerted him to King Midas. My friend contacted Rogey last Thursday. Rogey texted back “ He’s broken down”. Good luck to his purchaser. A case of buyer beware I’m afraid.
