Let's keep the TAS performance in perspective. Yes, it was a top run in an international field - and OP got a dream passage on/near the rail to save many lengths - but he didn't win, in fact was well beaten by a horse that also drew wide, hadnt had a lead-up run in Oz, had some traffic to negotiate from a midfield position and showed brilliant acceleration on that tight turning track to win easily. All the honours are with the winner imo.4 points -

Racing is all about opinions , no sport left if no one ventured an opinion and it was countered by another opinion with a bit of to and throw , is that not what betting is and the fun of it is ? . I have discussed racing with a murderer many years back , he knew his form , but not sure he ever raced one let alone a good one and not sure a racing post was supplied with his toothbrush and one phonecall every two weeks for his 25 stretch. We were at odds though as he slagged off Mouse Roberts , he was an awesome jockey . This site bloody good for bit of to and throw imho.1 point

It can still be a good run while getting beaten by a better horse. We knew if the real LG turned up it would be a race for second. TAS beat all else but the 3yo. He got a nice run (was also held up coming into the straight) but for a horse who drew the carpark and was maligned by some for even making the field it was a good effort first time at 2000m wfa.1 point

My comments re “smashed the rest” probably should be taken in context re the run. TAS gave the entire field a start at the 800m and passed all but 2 horses - and was still strong on the line. Imho, the best run of the race aside from the winner - who was in another class. TAS also ran down and passed Magic Wand in the straight. At the 800m, TAS was 2 lengths behind the winner and finished within 4 lengths across the line. The winner in another class but TAS clearly better than the rest.1 point -

I don't think that's fair. After the draw he was given no chance by many. Bosson snagged him to the rear and was patient. From last at the school to 3rd first time at valley...first time 10f. Beating all the hype Aussie horses (avilius...MJ)...quite a performance. Also that rail lane didn't produce many winners after 16 races in two days. Very good run from a very good horse.1 point -

Was a weird old race though that last , two top weights , 5 kilos to minimum and any number wrong in the weights . She's a gallant mare and it's been great to watch her over the years . She would get bit of my ew money next up.1 point -
Never going to beat that World Cup winning side Pogues, but at least they are the best in the Southern Hemisphere nO1 point

Commented just now on a Cox Plate thread . Non Grp 1 winner , non wfa winner , non distance winner why would it not cause debate . Proved his worth , well done to Te Akau. Good ride up rails, he was never gonna round that field 7 wide . Magic Wand rated 114 up north half length behind . Underrated northern horse or overated , non winner this year ? What's your thoughts on her rating under or over .1 point

need to remember he had a serious injury last year...they are probably erring on the side of caution with him and want to avoid hard tracks. He'll still have to improve some to get past these Japanese horses!1 point

A lot of observers were quite vocal in their comments re TAS’s eligibility to be included in the CP field. He absolutely vindicated the Clubs judgement with a stunning performance from last to 3rd, thanks to a top ride by OPB. He was only beaten by the 3rd highest rated horse in Japan and a classy 3yo he had to give 10 kilos to. He smashed the rest of the field, including The Horse Stoppers “best horse in Australia & Winx heir”! Great performance by TAS.1 point -
AB's reverted to tactics of old. Kick away possession whether by lineouts or fairly aimless stuff in field of play - can't remember a Pom being put under pressure by an AB kick whereas on the few times they kicked 3 or 4 of them arrived to apply pressure same time as the ball. Poms backed themselves to retain the ball for wave after wave whereas AB's tactic seemed to always hoof it down field. Wonder if this something from Hansen or Foster or a carryover from Smith who employed the kicking tactic ad nauseum. I also found it strange that AB forwards often let the Poms recycle by not contesting the breakdowns/rucks. Jones appeared to also have done his homework on the ref - once ref had made his glance that defensive line was onside they then all moved up as he never looked again behind his back.1 point

I loved the way Opie summed it up, he remembered the Kings ballsup on Excellent and took a punt, similar to the Cummings horse in the Caulfield . Top marks Mr Bosson1 point

And no penalty for the starter - what a joke
john legend reacted to Spikecity for a topic
The JCA ruled he didn't get a fair start so why doesn't the starter get a penalty for not calling a false start - P Lamb you are past it, please step down and give someone else a chance. Surely they wouldn't make as many F ups as you. Next month is NZ cup and we can expect another shambles of a start I imagine. DREAM OF GLORY - hampered by a breaking runner in the score up and was a length out of position at the start. Stewards delayed the all clear and questioned driver M Purdon regarding this incident and whether that interference had materially prejudiced his chances (finished 3rd). After hearing the evidence from Mr Purdon and Starter Mr P Lamb, Stewards requested a ruling from the JCA who determined that the runner had not been denied a fair start with stakes and dividends paid accordingly.1 point -

Exactly it was well advertised in Australia for months when the Government was seeking submissions on the law change. Not hard to set Google alerts to racing legislation changes. The NZRB has 3 lawyers god knows what they do obviously not much given the above.1 point

Much will depend on the weather. If that rain arrives it could change things completely. Lys Gracieux obviously the one to beat, she is right up there with Almond Eye and Co in Japan. Heard Mark Guest say that Mer de Glace who won the Caulfield Cup was only number 47 in the Jap quality list....makes you think....! Not sure about her on wet tracks, but if track stays good, she is right in it. If it rains, Avilius, Verry Ellegant look very good value at current odds. Castelvecchio for first four with that light weight. Good luck with whatever you fancy....1 point -

TAB Promo
Insider reacted to chiknsmack for a topic
It's Australian law that Australians can't bet with offshore agencies. The idea is to protect punters, and the integrity of racing in general, by cutting off access to unlicensed bookmakers in the Pacific Islands, Asia, or the Caribbean. The NZTAB/NZTR should've spoken up when the law was being mooted to get an exception, but they didn't. Once the law was passed they said they were going to try to work something out so people in Australia could still bet with the NZTAB, but they haven't done so. There's no equivalent NZ law, so we can bet with Australian corporate bookmakers, or with any old dodgy mob from Vanuatu/Cook Islands/Costa Rica/wherever.1 point -

As you state, Waller often has about 75% of the starters in staying races in Sydney. It is obviously not a good look, one trainer having most of the starters in a race like the flying stakes, but surely the problem isn't with one trainer being too good, the problem is with the other trainers not being competitive. Some of you almost seem to be suggesting a dominant trainer needs to be handicapped somehow to give the others a chance. Perhaps the All Stars horses should all have to start 20 metres behind.. Over the years there has often been one trainer that dominates for a period in Canterbury, for various reasons, it is just unusual that this period of dominance seems to have lasted longer than most.1 point -

Hunting Horn is in MV Cup, drawn 3 . If he goes like he did in Man O War Stakes this year he will test their stamina .. Race time was third fastest in 21 years and was run down very late . Final 100 metres might be his undoing though but if they let him get a gap they will have problems . Chief Ironside is in the mile , he was completely untested in Toorak , moved up but wall of horses and jockey just cruised in . Be better off in a handicap but I might roll the dice with him.1 point
