  2. I like your post RR. As Barry B pointed out, the issue is about animal cruelty and all forms of life that humans slaughter should not suffer pain and should be killed as instantly as is possible. Most abattoirs and freezing works would or should, be complying with strict animal welfare legislation and practices. So for me, this whole issue isn’t about whether we eat horse, goat, deer or whatever, but about caring for animals when they are alive and if slaughter is the end game, as it is with millions of animals everywhere, then show the animal respect and care when this done.

  3. Yep for sure, reminds me of that bobby calf place in Te Kauwhata that got done for animal abuse, no different here, the workers guilty of the behaviour should end up before the courts as should the owner for ignoring the goings on, ignorance is the same as condoning.

  6. I think industry participants , punters , racefans need to decide individually where morally they sit on this . Are you accepting of horse slaughter for food if it's done in a highly professional manner with strict guidelines, we'll regulated , are you against eating horses full stop , are you accepting it as only a last resort . Things to ponder , sell horses overseas they could eat them. KRA promotes horse meat , publishes quarterly stud book lists of those gone to Jeju Island food processing facility and by reading Korean news reports wants to expand consumption . Do you still want to bet on next at Seoul tonight ? If NZ industry is against horse slaughter should we be betting on this racing. I've read ownership info from Japan, they warn this happens but I haven't read anywhere that they promote it like Korea but take a realistic approach as not masses of space for retired horses .Ferdinand never left Japan , in fact Exceller ended up in a tale of bankruptcy and a pet food factory in Sweden , tragic really . If you think all racehorses should all have a long retirement then surely any horse you own it would be slightly self serving if it's gets sold to certain countries , if you think it's part and parcel of the business and not all can be done all the time maybe do the hard yards face hard facts and actually make sure as best you can when time comes it's done right , if you not happy don't sell .Or maybe some not too bothered if the money in account , it takes all sorts I suppose .Some in these times of troubled finance may have no choice to be fair to keep families head above water ,or maybe case of sell one to have money to save 10 others in paddock . Maybe on this new TAB they could have a horse welfare donation option , decent win, good mood pay bit forward to the horses , the buggers who do the most hard yards in all this.

Filly off for a break now, Sarge thinks she is a black type horse once she has strengthened up. They were a bit upset The Drake had to be scratched after some thing in the next stall went off. Had been backed in so might be worth following, in a good stable. They also tell me Paul O'Sullivan has a three quarter brother in Hong Kong named Chicken Dance that is very exciting......

  9. So the Champions meeting was traditionally held at Newmarket. That track is on chaulky ground so the drainage is quite good. The placement of the meeting was also put back so as not to conflict with the Arc. The result is that the Champions meeting is now held slightly later so worse weather. So the twats over in Blighty shifted the meeting from Newmarket to Ascot. They used the normal track a couple of weeks ago when the conditions were heavy. It continued to rain and screwed the track further. So they had to run the races on the inside jumping track. What a joke...

    England

Yeh Gruffy they didn't seem to go with the speed of the ABs at all. England will be looking to slow it right down. Big show down ahead and it's only the semi

    track conditions

Yes, Col...a good few horses lost out on runs as a result of that misinformation. However, local knowledge should have told trainers that . The soil and climate are very different from that prevailing at, say, Riccarton - or Dunedin. It isn't hard to ring a local trainer and get an opinion - or go for a drive and have a look yourself. Doesn't help early punters though.

    Just second hand...

I agree with the above observations. Using our assets in a more efficient way to help move the industry forward, definitely....but to give that power to NZTR given their record, no way.

    Just second hand...

So you expect clubs with assets who have been treated appalling by the likes of NZTR and operated within their means and utilised their volunteer base to continue operating ,to front up and borrow money ,so that the same appalling cycle of treatment can occur again? I hope allot of these clubs think about what they are doing if that's the case.

  21. Thats a i piss poor post from sicko. Say you are a trainer and a young person comes asking for a job and an apprenticeship even. You ask about experience the YP has had and are told its done pony club for years so you put it on Quiet ones on the exercise track. But being animal of flight none are 100% safe. If the person has done pony club for years and wants to be a jockey you could assume the rider had got out of a canter. So who messed up the pony club or the trainer. Because you can get done for a rider having an accident and being found the rider had the not galloped a horse experience. How can you get experience of galloping a horse without doing that? So the first time a horse is galloped and it goes through a fence and the rider is injured then that person in charge liable? OSH think so. Its not like a car where you can have instruction with dual controls and learner plates. The intention of OSH is to bully down accidents by being grossly punitive in high claim industry. Cases happen when the unfortunate take a huge hit to set an example for the careless
