  1. Another superb performance by the outstanding mare, won with a lot in hand. 8 x group ones ,even in NZ is incredible really. Well ridden as one would expect from an ideal barrier. And she only cost $57,500. Quite the bargain. Her trainer J. Richards is certainly doing the job ,both North and South stables and just nutted in Group 2 in Sydney as well. Simply outstanding effort all round.

  2. Under Estimated loss of revenue : Are you going to bring forward the return of free to air TV racing channel ? (even if only for NZ racing) Also the return of hard copy Race books to other retail outlets beside the TAB stores. As this topic is for question only I have made it straight to the point, however I can offer 1st hand experiences of how the lack of the above are costing our game thousands of dollars 47 South The TAB have driven a number of innovations in this space with racing now being available on Spark Sport as well as on SKY.'s Trackside. There are active conversations underway to look at having some racing content available on free to air television and also through online media. RITA has been actively working over recent months to support a new punting magazine following the Informant closing, We are hopeful of being able to confirm a new publication in the next month or so.

I don't have time for a comprehensive rely at the moment, but I just wanted to say that I tend to disagree with virtually everyone of your points.

  5. Not necessarily. Easy pickings here, why not take them. Plus it's good for the local industry to have a star racing here. They are aiming to take her to Oz later this campaign so will get a chance to prove herself then.

Take that Jacinda Candace Owens responding to the Mosque shooting. Jacinda wrongly blaming white supremacy when in fact there are about 0.001% of the population fall into that category. They want you divided. You can guarantee the hijab wearing and poster girl MSM promos were all part of the deep state plan organised well before the event. One giant psyops and Kiwis fell for it hook line and sinker.

I think it would be better referenced as a horror rather than a novel and maybe if you did take time to read a little more you might find yourself better educated in the real world as far as the NZ Racing Industry is concerned. Assumption is the mother of all failures which you fall into by thinking I have a hatred of John Allen. I have posted as a person I have no problem with him but as far as his leadership skills and knowledge of the NZ Racing Industry I have had a huge question mark over his ability. Don't forget even John Allen endorsed my concerns by stating himself that he has been a serial failure in his working life. His management efforts at the NZRB are just a continuation of his self confessed working life flaw. He certainly didn't make me redundant at NZ Post but his tenor there as the CEO did result in many becoming redundant so no surprise I guess for you to assume that I may have been collateral damage from JA fallout. You need to read between the lines and the balance sheets TA as if you had of you wouldn't have made such an uneducated claim that John Allen would still be there in 12 months. Thankfully John Allen saw the writing on the wall as I and many others have over recent months and knew better to depart under his own announcement than have it done for him. A major #!%# up was proposed by John Allen to the NZRB Board which was subsequently implemented. The investment has proven to not perform as it was told it would do to the NZ Racing Industry, it has become a liability when its cost to build and service is not returning the extra revenue to warrant the tens of millions in costs of it. No financial institution would consider it in any way to be a worthy investment based on current returns. Years ago $20 plus million was as you as you so loosely label was seen as an investment in a new betting platform called Typhoon, that so called investment returned zero dollars and ended up in the bin. This new betting platform at over twice that cost of Typhoon is in service although in what could only be described as doing so in an under performing capacity and is highly unlikely to ever return the revenue required to justify it's over budget inflated investment. If you do some homework rather than once again assuming you will find out exactly why the Racing Minister told the DIA to go back to the drawing board to create a viable working policy with regard to racefield fees. I think its very obvious to most even if its not to you time isn't needed to tell that the Betting Platform is not a success. NZRB Board members gone, the CEO gone, are you slowing getting the picture that is getting painted? It's called the domino effect and its starting to steamroll. The financial plight of many trainers will see the pension going towards reducing their ever increasing debt to stay in a business that continues to have inflation % of costs far exceeding income increased %. You really do live in cuckoo land thinking they will be thinking "life's never been better". Your one of those uneducated people who have become like that by not evaluating the NZ Racing Industry well enough to make a statement worthy of consideration. You continually think time will tell eg John Allen and the Betting Platform. Your probably best to keep your head buried in the sand with no clock to view. $#%* me the Industry is in its current strife because time has run out thanks to a poorly run Organisation set up to return the best possible income it can to ensure of its survival.

  17. Question for Dean: Why are the TAB racing turnover figures not publicly available to the extent that they once were (full disclosure on a weekly basis), when the majority of the racing public have an interest in them? Are they really that embarrassing they need to be hidden? Thanks in advance. Rusty Historically in the pure tote only years, turnover was the number one measure of revenue, given the standard deductions made in the various bet types. As customer preferences have shifted more to fixed odds, the number one measure for revenue is now gross betting revenue or in other words what margin or profit we are making when we sell a bet.

Perfect timing for a self-satisfied public servant on the gravy train. Three months notice to keep up appearances of working, schmooze through the spring and silly seasons, plenty of time to secure a new gig in 2020. $12k+ a week and no accountability for anything. Luvly jubly. Probably turn up next year running Problem Gaming Foundation or Plunket.

I can't say I will be losing any sleep over that resignation. He's overseen the most disruptive and generally inept time of management (and I use the word "management" very loosely here you understand) in NZ's long racing history and all he does is repeat the same old platitudes about how well things are going when anyone in the industry knows that's just corporate jargon and PR spin of the highest order. The website is just a symptom of the greater disease now infecting racing. With today's resignation it just puts me in mind of that Italian cruise liner captain who ran the ship aground and then was one of the first in the life boats.

There were 4 women who made claims of sexual assault by Jamie Lee Rossi. Bennett swept them under the carpet! A real scandal atm is National s Chinese spy MP and his recent trip with Bridges to meet senior CPR security officers. And let's not forget the confirmation that Collins coy was involved in the broken fuel pipeline that disrupted supplies.

  23. I never caught the Weigh In programme and I probably should not comment as no doubt I am going to piss a few people off. However I think there are a few things that are never mentioned regarding the state of the industry. All I hear is that the stakes are too low and it is driving owners out of the game. That is true but not the entire story . Owners are getting stuffed up the chutney left right and centre ( to quote my good mate Leo!) Not all of it from the powers that be. Some of these so called" top trainers" are charging anywhere from 85/day to 100/day, clipping their tickets on chiropractor charges, jump out fees, administration charges, vitamin charges, gear charges, and whatever they can think of. They cry poverty but still manage to take a holiday to Hawaii, Fiji , world cruise or whatever once a year. They drive an Audi or other luxury car a, have a big TAB punting account etc. As they read this they know who they are. They get away with it by forming syndicates . Some of the Cambridge Trainers have between 55 and and 140 horses in their stables so don't let me hear them crying poverty at the rates they are charging! Throw in some of the vets, and farriers that charge like wounded bulls and you have an industry that is in shit street not all of it at the feet our administrators. In saying that NZTR still have a lot to answer for. Like them or loathe them, Race Course Inspectors, J McKenzie, B McKenzie and the the like seemed to police the industry without all the cost that is now happening. NZTR have around 30 personal policing the industry (and a policy of dob your mates in) . NZTR programme trials at Ruakaka or Avondale so an owner with a horse in Cambridge is up for between 350 and 500 in transport costs alone. The big stables don't care as they have a syndicate horse or big money owner. It appears that people are employed at NZTR in vital positions but have no real empathy at what it is really like out here. They have no idea of the costs involved when they do the programmes. Meanwhile there are a lot of trainers trying to keep owners in the game by charging affordable training fees and no hidden charges so big ups to them!

  24. They'll bet more than the people who are not there. We need people getting on track and experiencing racing even it the racing is only a side line for now. Who knows one of them might have a big win on there easy bet trifecta and be hooked for life becoming a regular punter and then an owner.

  25. Have RITA commissioned an independent review of the new betting platform including the cost so far and how much work is required to get it to a satisfactory state. Patiti RITA have not specifically commissioned a review of the new betting platform costs, although this matter was covered in the normal annual audit conducted by PWC and in the section 14 Audit undertaken by Grant Thornton. As you will be aware the platform was commissioned at the beginning of the year so the organisations focus is now making it the best it can be and ensuring we quickly address any concerns our customers may have as to its on-going operation.

  26. "It would seem that the NZTR is a quasi fiefdom where nominations, and therefore appointments to the board, are controlled by an ongoing legacy. Does RITA have the ability to review and execute a completely different NZTR board nomination and appointment model?" Berri Without commenting on any one particular code governance model, the pursuit of best practice governance has been covered in the second bill, which the government are presently considering. Building on the direction contained in the Messara review, it is obviously essential that wehave the best possible people in key industry governance positions. We await feedback from the government.

  27. I’m not sure that argument has merit. The upcoming RWC will prove a point. Humans are creatures that like to congregate with other similar humans. There will be the homebodies but there will be large numbers who will attend a pub to watch each match. Essentially enjoying a togetherness, for want of a better word. Racing is the same, without a place to gather, humans will drift to another place. The fact that the numbers are already dropping indicate that there are no new people being drawn to racing. At least not on a regular basis. New young people have as much interest in watching trackside as watching the grass grow, they only want the live interactive event, a few times a year. Not enough to maintain the infrastructure or horse base we presently have. Racing has had its day in NZ, in its current format. The radical change needed to maintain the current base of interested people, is not something that the present management would ever try as they lack the mandate and fortitude.
