  1. Question for Dean: Why are the TAB racing turnover figures not publicly available to the extent that they once were (full disclosure on a weekly basis), when the majority of the racing public have an interest in them? Are they really that embarrassing they need to be hidden? Thanks in advance. Rusty Historically in the pure tote only years, turnover was the number one measure of revenue, given the standard deductions made in the various bet types. As customer preferences have shifted more to fixed odds, the number one measure for revenue is now gross betting revenue or in other words what margin or profit we are making when we sell a bet.

    UMC still at it

Well done to the NZ TAB for getting some odds out early for the race. Too skinny for my liking, I won't touch anything, but good on them for trying. They are possibly starting to wake up. I'd have Thefixer, Spankem, Tiger Tara and possibly Chase Auckland as the horses ahead of UMC at this stage for the Cup. I wouldn't necessarily read too much into the winner of the Hannon, moreso the respective runs of each contender, and their performance within the race.

  5. Get out the check book , time to pay the scammers . '' China and India demanded rich countries provide financial support for them to increase their climate plans, as leaders prepared to meet at a UN summit in New York. '' '' Statements published on Tuesday , the world’s first and fourth largest emitters put the onus on rich countries to fulfil their commitments to mobilise $100 billion per year by 2020 for developing countries to cope with the impacts of climate change. '' China has a COMBINED wealth greater than the USA but still claims to be a developing country , amazing . What is interesting is reducing emissions is actually very simple and need not cost anything . The only country having real success with reducing emissions is Venezuela , it's emissions are down around 20% , the socialists have worked out that bankrupting your own country , starving the population , ruining the health system etc etc will have the desired effect of reducing emissions . Well done Venezuela .

  6. Yes I remember staying down there in the accommodation house I suppose thats the old jockeys quarters. Beautiful racecourse. The point I make is that centralizing business ventures across racecourses makes ventures viable whereas a club going alone doesn't. Perhaps the expertise developed at Tauherenikau can be used elsewhere. Plenty of possibilities. Seems a culture amongst many that selling real estate in NZ is the only way.

  8. How much income does a "typical" $10,000 race generate? I get the impression that it must lose money, hence the general reluctance to split fields, even if there are often enough horses to give a club a 9th or 10th race with 14 starters. And if a "typical" $10,000 race with a full field loses money how can the industry afford the numerous rating 82 races in the North, such as this weekend at Pukekohe, that go around with only 5 or 6 starters for a stake of $30,000? We’re doomed It’s difficult to determine a ‘typical’ race. If we look at last Sunday’s racing at Te Aroha, as an example, there was $750k turnover on the day (all races) with a gross betting margin of 8%, but obviously the $$ can vary significantly depending on field sizes, conditions, quality of products etc. Ultimately the decision to allocate prize money, split races etc. is one taken by the Codes themselves when programming and there are many variables that go into that decision being made. RITA’s focus is to increase distributions to the codes so overall prize money can be raised.

Also the man himself drove a bit too.....plus some of those close to Waimate.....Cleave,Langford,RBrosnan.FKirk dove Idolmite in Auckland. There were more than one Heffernan , Doug and Vince I think were two. Enterprise was driven by Peter Shand mainly . I did a quick check on HRNZ website after a few Tisdall and Heffernan horses flashed before my eyes.......namely Idolmite ,Dannymite ,Tom Pepper ,Enterprise and Cardinal Star. Other drivers named include Phil Williamson ,John Hay and Ali Malcomson [RIP] ,and of course Colin DePhillipi mentioned earlier as main Idolmite pilot.

  15. Yes, Enterprise was a good Lordship stallion (another stud failure) who raced against the likes of harness legends Roydon Glen and Hands Down. I think Williamson drove him a couple of times early in the horses career but his regular driver when the horse was trained by Doug Heffernan was Peter Shand.

  23. So junior stable employees are allowed to be interviewed on TV about their stable runners and likely scenarios, but an experienced trainer/driver is censured for the same thing? And people wonder why the leadership of the industry is considered a joke. Their decisions would make more sense if Monty Python wrote the script for them!

  24. By Letter to the Editor: Michael ‘ Hockey stick’ Man A couple of years ago now, I pointed out that Professor Michael “hockey stick” Mann was gonna be in big trouble. Through the Canadian court system, he had sued a real scientist, Dr Tim Ball, for libel because Ball had publicly claimed that Mann “belongs in the state pen, not Penn State”. In particular, Ball dismissed Mann’s celebrated “hockey stick” as a deliberate falsification of the global temperature facts. The hockey stick, in case there is a reader unaware, is the graph of precipitous global warming over recent decades, which is the chassis upon which almost all of the global warming hoax wagon has been built. Mann’s iconic hockey stick has been relied upon by the U.N’s I.P.C.C. and Western governments as crucial evidence for the claim of man-made global warming. But Mann refused the court’s order to release the data from which he drew the graph. As I promised, the Canadian Supreme Court has just recently, after Mann had exhausted all attempts to escape the order, ruled in favour of Dr Ball, not only dismissing Mann’s libel suit but also ordering full costs against Mann. One can expect that the legal fees and court costs for this case, which has been ongoing for years, will amount to millions of Canadian dollars. Mann has not only been publicly disgraced as a fraudulent scientist but, presumably, will also be bankrupted. Mind you, these global warming alarmist “scientists” receive plenty of money, and that’s why they’re in it. Mann also initiated libel suits against others who publicly exposed him. It can only be assumed that he will now abandon those suits, making substantial payments to the defendants. Mann’s career and life are in tatters. And the global warming hoax is now also in tatters. Although with Mann refusing to reveal his data, there has not been an actual exposure of the hockey stick’s deception, there is no conclusion to be drawn other than that the data is either non-existent or is unable to stand scrutiny. But ‘Comrade’ Jacinda and her band will no doubt carry on regardless, destroying our economy and our lifestyles, because this will be swept under the carpet. Have you seen anything on the tv news? Have you read anything in the (mainstream) newspapers? No. They didn’t want to write about it a couple of years ago, and they’re not writing about it now. Best that you all spread this around as widely as you can, and alert your politicians that you’re awake to them.

  25. Michael Mann the hockey stick graph guy looses . Michael Mann Refuses to Produce Data, Loses Case Some years ago, Dr. Tim Ball wrote that climate scientist Michael Mann “belongs in the state pen, not Penn State.” At issue was Mann’s famous “hockey stick” graph that purported to show a sudden and unprecedented 20th century warming trend. The hockey stick featured prominently in the IPCC’s Third Assessment Report (2001), but has since been shown to be wrong. The question, in my view, is whether it was an innocent mistake or deliberate fraud on Mann’s part. (Mann, I believe, continues to assert the accuracy of his debunked graph.) Mann sued Ball for libel in 2011. Principia Scientific now reports that the court in British Columbia has dismissed Mann’s lawsuit with prejudice, and assessed costs against him. What happened was that Dr. Ball asserted a truth defense. He argued that the hockey stick was a deliberate fraud, something that could be proved if one had access to the data and calculations, in particular the R2 regression analysis, underlying it. Mann refused to produce these documents. He was ordered to produce them by the court and given a deadline. He still refused to produce them, so the court dismissed his case. So it seems another climate fraudster has been flushed out

Hats off to Seven Sharp tonight on One, Jeremy wells and Hilary Barry with a piece on the Brazilian Rain forest using its resident expert to de-bunk the so called “earths lungs” myth and the big picture of how the Amazon is going, nothing to report here he said ,nothing to much out of the usual and the forest is 80 % stable in good shape and nothing to worry about Its a breath of fresh air actually seeing something on TV that’s not alarmist.

  29. By L D Brady ‘The Amazon Is Burning’ Pt 1: A Flaming Heap of Bullshit Call me a cynic, but every time some new environmental or climate change moral panic suddenly grips the legacy media – and especially its wagging-tail, social media – I immediately check to see if there’s either another big environmental-political circus due or a left-wing politician in trouble. So when the social media Chicken Little screeching about the Amazon supposedly burning to the ground began, with the legacy media rushing to fall into line, it was no surprise to find the following triple-whammy. Not only is the G7 elite excursion week about to begin, but the UN is about to chill the champagne and rev up the private jets for yet another climate gabfest. More tellingly, the whole Amazon kerfuffle was kicked off by failing Frog lefty, Emmanuel Macron. Well, colour me surprised. Imagine my shock, too, to find that the whole circus doesn’t even stand up to the scrutiny of a two-minute Google search or even to basic arithmetic. Jo Nova has summarised the basic fact-checking that Twitter hysterics are plainly incapable of. To sum it all in one line: The whole thing is a political beat-up and the Amazon is experiencing nothing but average dry-season forest fires. 2019 is on track to be a totally normal year for Amazon forest fires. Emmanuel Macron’s tweet (inset) and the stock photo he used to fake it. That should have set everyone’s bullshit meters clanging. But if that’s not enough, here are the numbers: 2019 is actually looking like a pretty quiet, boring year for the Amazon. Whenever someone starts gibbering about the Amazon, the first thing to keep in mind is just how freaking big the Amazon actually is. For instance, the once-respectable National Geographic shrieked that more than 7,000 square miles has been “razed”. Well, that does sound pretty scary. Except that the Amazon covers more than two million square miles. So, the area “razed” amounts to just 0.3%. Suddenly, it’s less scary. Nonetheless, the legacy media obediently jumped to the crack of the Twitter whip. Yet, even the hacks struggled to beat this non-event up. From the thoroughly alarmist BBC: In fact, the whole ruckus is such obvious bullshit that even Michael Mann is calling time-out. Yes: Michael freaking Mann. Mann particularly responded to hysterical claims about “the lungs of the planet” (a claim that was debunked almost as soon as it dribbled from Sting’s smug, overpaid gob, back in the 80s). When the Hockey Stick guy is calling b.s., you really know it’s a complete non-event. ‘The Amazon Is Burning’ Part 2: Politics and Media Manipulation s I wrote in part one of this story, every time some new environmental or climate change moral panic suddenly sweeps the legacy media and its whip-cracker, social media, it pays to immediately check to see which summit is scheduled to begin soon, or which left-wing politician is trying to distract attention. Part one covered the basic facts, which show that the ‘Amazon burning’ scare is just so much bullshit. In part two, let’s look at how the whole lying, ignorant hysteria over the supposedly burning-to-the-ground Amazon is all about politics. Firstly, there is the G7 summit: I’m sure you’ll be shocked, shocked, to learn that the “Amazon is burning” frenzy was triggered by the politically-troubled French leader, Emmanuel Macron. As it so happens, Macron is right in the midst of trade negotiations with Brazil’s Jair Bolsanaro. Bolsanaro is, of course, an evil right-winger, the “South American Trump”. The left really, really don’t like Bolsanaro: he was stabbed almost to death, even before he was elected. The smoke should be clearing already. The lyin’ legacy media are about as honest and truthful as the politicians. The legacy media aren’t even trying to hide their bias. In fact, the Columbia Journalism Review, “intellectual leader…the most respected voice on press criticism, [which] shapes the ideas that make media leaders and journalists smarter about their work”, is openly touting the legacy media narrative. CJR is emailing journalists around the world, ordering them to fall in line. Could they be any more obvious? In his bestselling State of Fear, Michael Crichton writes that “Politicians need fear to control the population […] the media need scare stories to capture an audience […] this is the way modern society works – by the constant creation of fear”. In Crichton’s novel, a shadowy cabal of e-NGOs and environmental terrorists conspire to engineer a series of devastating ‘natural’ disasters in order to grab attention for their climate scare campaign. But, with the “Amazon is burning” bonfire of bullshit, the left-media elite aren’t even bothering to hide what they’re up to any more.

  31. China doing it's bit to confirm the scam and how about the name of the fund , GREEN CORPORATE and RENEWABLE energy fund . This confirms cindy and those around her are complete fools. According to Shanghai-based financial data provider Wind, 7.4 billion yuan ($1.1 billion) in green corporate and financial bonds were issued by 13 coal projects in the first half of the year. They involved power plants fuelled by coal or coalbed methane as well as coal-to-chemical projects. China Energy News, a publication run by the Communist Party-owned paper the People’s Daily, reported this year that more than 80% of a central government renewable energy fund was used to fund fossil fuels like coalbed methane and shale gas in 2018. China also approved 141 million tonnes of new annual coal mining capacity in the first half of this year, compared to 25 million tonnes for the whole of 2018. So much for climate change , the Chinese are not interested but are playing much of the western world brilliantly , it looks like Trump is our only hope .

  32. More climate bullshit , The Amazon burning , here's the reality , complements of NASA . “As of August 16, 2019, satellite observations indicated that total fire activity in the Amazon basin was slightly below average in comparison to the past 15 years.” Short summary: we have had wild fires for many years now in the Amazon, even in the tropical rainforest – mainly started by humans for forest clearing and ranching. It is not enough to impact significantly on the Paris agreement pledges yet, though it is important in the long term if this continues for decades. This image is being shared even in usually reputable media with captions such as National Geographic’s “The Amazon is burning at record rates – and deforestation is to blame”. Similarly, the BBC is reporting it as a “record”.
