Thanks very much for all your hard work today Maria. You're a champion in every sense of the word. Well done to Ivanthegreat for such a terrific duel, which went right down to the wire. As for my rather unexpected victory - I guess even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes. I haven't been able to enter over recent week as I've been a bit crook, so today's comp was a welcome tonic. Thanks to all who took part and to Maria and her fellow administrators for the opportunity. Kind regards and good punting to you all. HS.3 points

Well done High Sparrow on a good win...and Ivanthegreat on a tough second placing...thanks again Maria for all the help ..enjoy the wee break not too long as we will get withdrawal symptoms from not having these varying comps going...look out for losers get laid next week...thanks everyone for entering the more the merrier it makes the comps the success they are.2 points

To be fair it doesn’t matter what you do during the race it’s where you are at the post that counts, tiger went super but the winner just went better when it counted2 points

Thank you all so much for joining in the fun today - we had a good number of entrants and some new selectors who I hope we will see more of as the Spring racing continues. I will do a final check of the results but a few quick audits over the day should hopefully mean that all is in order at this stage I am away now for a bit of a Spring Break and will be hitting Sydney to enjoy some racing so I bid you cheerio for now and remind you to check back over the coming week for Toblerone's thread for the Losers Get Laid comp that should be kicking off next Saturday2 points

For those of you who may not be aware the Newmarket, Auckland TAB has recently reverted back to the Racing Industry Board/ RITA Management and hours have been considerably shortened which is detrimental to the best interests of the wider local community and Racing in general. It now closes at 6pm most days because no one was apparently going in there at that time, some bright spark has overlooked the fact that is DINNER TIME for most people and that people do venture out after their evening meals to place bets or simply socialise with friends and associates on their way home as well after working late. It closes at 7PM on a Friday evening so to hell to those who enjoy popping in to have a flutter on the Friday night Races or Sports or who like to meet up at the local with friends and associates to enjoy those and who live and/ or work in the area away who may prefer to gather away from bars and alcohol and those who may be intoxicated or whatever reason. There's still people out there who don't feel safe going to a bar to watch sport for whatever reason and their basic human rights are important to. The nearby Remuera area has a reasonably well off population of 28,000 people many of whom are involved actively in the Horse Racing industry. Westfield Shopping complex which has just reopened in NEWMARKET who have boutiques in the area where HORSE RACING people do buy their outfits & do there bit with FASHION and must be annoyed that their local TAB don't use commonsense how the two go hand in hand together. Pull your socks up TAB marketing people and get off your butts and do some PROMOTIONS in the area to let people know there is a TAB in Newmarket and OPEN it back to proper hours like it used to be. The Newmarket TAB used to be pumping with people stopping off up until people who were clearly not happy in their jobs there started working there stuffed it up for local regulars. It also always used to be open until AFTER the last TROTTING races on a Friday night and for Friday and Saturday night Footy and sports games. Get to know your customers and what is happening in local communities before you pull the rug WITHOUT CONSULTING those who use your facilities and PAY your wages. If other TABS can stay open until around midnight on a Friday night why isn't Newmarket which is the central HUB for one of the most wealthiest areas in Auckland. It's no excuse to cite Staff SAFETY as there's always security patrols by security firms and the POLICE in the area - BP Khyber PASS been a regular pit stop for them!! Telling people to go off to Alexandra Park or Victoria Street TAB as you have been doing to customers is a kick in the guts with a horses leg and unacceptable to do to the local community.1 point

If it was ever going to be broadcast on a Sat morning, surely they'd call it Weigh Out ... makes sense to me that if Weigh In is back it'd be back on a Sunday morning, reviewing the Group 1 day at Hastings.1 point

Newmarket TAB Auckland - Opening Hours

Toblerone, do you not eat your dinner then!? They would benefit from adding a few cheerful staff with a genuine interest in Horse Racing and Sport, makes a huge difference when people choose a job they enjoy as it's like not working a day isn't it? Were you ever targeted by that grumpy woman who used to work there, ex Panmure TAB, telling you she was closing early as no one was there? She did that to quite a few people as individuals even when others were in in there. I recall a young gent bringing his girlfriend in to introduce her to racing on a Friday evening when sport was also on only to be kicked out at around 9pm much to his disgust. It's people who walk in to a TAB like that who are future often loyal customers they are impacting on in a negative manner instead of been naturally friendly and giving them a friendly welcome.1 point -
I've called in there between 6 and 7 on a Friday night recently and there was lucky to be two people in there. It's in a shocking position. No foot traffic at all.1 point

Commiserations to all you Auckland and other folk who can't get Trackside Radio once again due to ongoing unfinished maintenance issues that were set down to finish at 5pm yesterday - heard that line before today. Where are these people's brains and consideration for those within the Horse Racing community who want to have some enjoyment in life, and partake in WhangareI & Hastings local meetings when for whatever reason they are unable to either leave their own home or have access to Trackside TV? The disruption this ongoing work has done to Horse Racing on top of all the other disruptive carry on the industry is suffering from is beyond belief. It will be interesting to see how this has impacted on turnover for the day and those who may like to have a flutter or unable to attend somewhere to watch the races. For goodness sake working on such jobs on a SATURDAY during the peak coverage of OUR LOCAL racing is completely arrogant.1 point

Well I'll be damned, been trying to get races on Radio Trackside is also impossible in Auckland as some bright spark decided because they didn't finish the work on the Transmitter they would do it today so no RADIO TRACKSIDE here in Auckland. It's overdue some were held to account when contracting out and signing off these jobs. Clearly whoever is working on the Transmitter job doesn't have an interest or knowledge of the detriment it does to one's mental well being and that of the Wider Racing community & those who rely on Radio for their rightful enjoyment of Horse Racing and those within it. A bit like the nasty people who contributed to the demise of the Friday Flash and other Weekly Racing publications that cemented the industry together, some people only think of themselves and no thought or care goes into how ones actions impact on others welfare.1 point

A couple of years ago I thought I would walk all of NZ's current TAB racecourses. First stop was Kaikoura - no problem. Then Otaki where we asked the Lady who seemed to be in charge. She did not cooperate. So I realised my plan was an impossibility.1 point

Will participants of the walk have to wear a wet suit when navigating the water jump in front of the Ascot Stand? More seriously, that deadheat call from Keith Haub was one of his best. After 6400m he actually called “dead heat!” As Sir Avion and Smart Hunter crossed the Finish Line, many widths apart. Amazing call by one of the best.1 point

Sydney’s champion jockey James McDonald has secured the coveted ride on Te Akau Shark when the Kiwi raider makes the trip across the Tasman to race in Sydney next month. Te Akau Racing announced on Twitter on Monday that McDonald would ride the Jamie Richards-trained galloper in the Group II Tramway Stakes at Randwick on September 7. It will be the Rip Van Winkle five-year-old's first run across the ditch as Richards plots a course towards claiming a Group I on Australian soil. Te Akau Shark is a $6 favourite with TAB.com.au for the Epsom Handicap and a $15 hope in Cox Plate betting. Te Akau Shark has built an imposing record in New Zealand with five wins and one placing from seven starts. He won a Group III Red Badge Sprint (1400m) at Hastings and a Group II at Riccarton last preparation before narrowly going down in the Group II Foxbridge Plate (1200m) at Te Rapa when kicking off his spring campaign. McDonald has also picked up the ride on the Richards-trained Probabeel for the Group II Furious Stakes at Randwick on the same day. A Karaka Million winner, Probabeel finished fifth behind Microphone in the Group I Sires Produce during the Sydney autumn. Racenet1 point

The issue is privacy, privileged information, insider trading. What are the legal issues when a bank or share market intermediary monitors their customers accounts to make their own investments. In some cases like insider trading there could be criminal penalties like prison. Odds setters should not have access to the names of betting accounts. It can lead to all sort of corrupt practices including blackmail. If they do it overseas two wrongs don't make a right.1 point

Big Boned I am not jealous of Lou at all! In the last few years as an owner I have had far more success than he has for an outlay of well under 5% of what he has spent. I started this thread because I am extremely sorry that Jacob McKay has lost a potential life changing horse from his stable. He deserves better than that in my opinion.1 point -

You are all jealous. This man is most likely a life long punter and / or an enthusiast of racing. He comes into some money and spends it on the sport he enjoys. In return dickheads mock him. What he should do is ask for a return of money under warranty and false advertising. No doubt every horse he paid for was "nice" or a sibling to something or from a new hot sire, blah blah blah. As if anyone on this site can tell a champ from a chump as a yearling.Let him has some fun and appreciate that he loves racing so much he has spent alot of his money on it.1 point -
At last count Lou has purchased 19 horses following his big Lotto win. Most despite their hefty price tags have proven to be limited and that is being generous! He gets a potential Group One winner in Aalaalune and shows no loyalty to his trainer whatsoever. Not a good look in my opinion.1 point

imo they couldn't have picked a worse training outfit to transfer her to ...in retrospect the connections would have been better to have kept mum about their lofty ambitions and just let the horse do the talking. She may still be a Grp 1 contender and be the best 3yo filly in the country, but it's not clever to talk her up when the season has just begun, tracks are unpredictable as is the weather, and the horse has a lot of growing up to do. She is one of the few by Reliable Man to be Grp placed at 2yrs, so time is on her side..cant understand the rush myself...but i reckon Mr Rogie will waste no time racing her all over the shop and the horse will probably be buggered by the autumn (a la Contessa Vanessa, who I see is back in training after failing to sell at the GC sales). Just saying.1 point
